  1. One thing Hearts of iron did right was all their chrome. I liked the history and pictures that went along with techs.
  2. I would like to see it worldwide with the option to only play the European or Pacific theaters. What I mean is that there would be a world map scenario, a European only scenario map(SC 1 with bigger Atlantic and more north Africa) and a Pacific scenario map all in one package. I think this would allow everyone to be happy.
  3. I hope SC 2 fixes this by making half of the value the carriers and the other half the air wing. This way a carrier could not be brought down below half strength when attacking, and could not attack when half strength.
  4. Has anyone tried to take the LC, Ireland, and Iraq as the Allies before France falls? I have been trying it against the AI and it is possible if luck is on your side. Iraq is the hardest because you need to operate all allied air units and have at least 3 corps ready for the attack. If you don't take it the first try its over. USA war entry drops to -34 but with all the MPPS, the Axis cannot make any headway. As a follow up, if you let France take Iraq, what happens if France falls?
  5. Rannug: Damn it I knew you had to be using some sort of trick in our game!
  6. Thanks for the reply Hubert. Now you only made the wait for SC2 and its expanded editor worse!! Get started commiting those resources and time [ October 19, 2003, 06:54 PM: Message edited by: Panzer39 ]
  7. Great idea, It could be carried over to Field Marshals as well. Goering could give a better bonus to air fleets while Rommel could give a bonus to Tanks. Of course you could put Goering in command of your army group, but your unit's stats would suffer. This would allow more strategy options. Another big improvement for HQ's would be the ability to manually assign what units are under their control. Of course the AI could still handle it like it does now for casual players. Brain storm Why not allow for the creation of lower level generals as well. These could be picked from a list in the purchase screen when building a unit for an added cost. For example, when you build an army you can assign a general to command it. The General would give that army a small stat bonus. Sometimes there would be a trade off, gaining one point in one attribute while losing another elsewhere. Minor nations could have Generals already attached to their units, thus solving their HQ problem since Major HQ's could give the supply while their units who have Generals recieve the stat boost. I know this would require a lot of extra coding, but it would add tremendous flavor to the game. The casual player could ignore the general option entirely. 8. Maybe they should just add an HQ tech that would allow your regular HQ's to give bonuses to allied forces. I don't see many people willing to spend MPPS to buy an HQ for say Romania in order to supply the 3 units they have. A good idea would be to add some HQ's when a minor comes in. Or if we went with the minor HQ idea, they should be at a very discount price. Since we are talking about HQ's I think it would be good to bring up one of Jersey John's old ideas of allowing one unit to stack with an HQ. If we don't want to go the in game stacking route it could be handled at the purchase screen. Maybe give the player the option at the purchase screen to create an HQ with a Corps/Army/Airfleet attached. A nice feature would be the ability to add an Admiral to a BB or Carrier in this fashion.
  9. Maybe we should try to get this stickyed.
  10. For some reason it seems I am listed twice on the leader board. What is up with that?
  11. To all three of you who are interested , I have updated the campain and emailed it to otto in hopes of it being hosted on his site. The new name for it is Red September. I have also revised my first post to reflect the changes and clear up some things. Suggestions/feedback/comments are still very much wanted [ October 14, 2003, 01:37 PM: Message edited by: Panzer39 ]
  12. I enjoyed reading Von Manstiens's account of the Polish defense in his "Lost Victories book". Once you get past his statements about how Poland could have defended itself had it not been in an offensive posture,he gives a good account of how he would have set up the Defense of Poland and tried to hold out till the French went on the offensive. I tried using his strategy in Hearts of Iron and surprisingly it worked Though that gives absolutely 0 credibility to his argument, it was fun.
  13. von Rundstedt: I read someplace that when the Allies invaded Normandy he received a call from a subordinate stating that the Allies had landed in force and questioning what should they do. Von Rundstedt replied surrender and hung up the phone. I am not sure if it is true but I found it very funny and fitting with his character.
  14. From the reading I've done, I would have to say Stalin was the biggest loon of the bunch. His extreme paranoia would be enough to get him committed.
  15. Italy had beautiful warships, shame most of them sunk. The Roma was the first and only BB to be sunk by a guided bomb which by the way was German
  16. True enough, I think it is a guilty conscience.
  17. In a recent PBEM game I played I pulled a sneak attack late in the war on Rome. Italy did not fall the first turn but after the second turn surrendered. My opponent had more Italian troops than the USA and UK combined and controlled the Med except Malta (thats where the sneak attack came from). I don't think Italy should give up so easily.
  18. I am looking for a new game. Anyone interested can email me (my address is in my profile). Someone challenged me awhile ago but I could not figure out how to respond though the ladder site
  19. Thanks John. Now don't everyone else get interested at the same time!
  20. I have created an interesting scenario that takes a alternate history route where Germany has won WWI. Sides: Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, the LC, Turkey, Iraq, Denmark, and Finland make up the Axis while Russia, Yugoslavia, and Greece make up the Allies. The USA, France, and UK stay out. I was able the regular allies neutral by setting them all Axis conquered and giving them to the USA in the editor. UK and France are given a large amount of starting MPPS in case Germany decides to declare war on the USA. If Germany does decide to declare war, they must not invade France, UK, or USA on the same turn they declare war. Italy gets to play a very special role. I have created a demilitarized zone between Germany and Russia using Italian territory as the buffer. Since Italy starts the game off as neutral, both sides can not enter the zone. This allow both sides time to build up the forces they want. I feel the added freedom adds a lot to the game. Gameplay: The Russians get to have their winter war with Finland (not really in the Axis) and the Germans get to beat up on Yugoslavia and Greece (revolting parts of the Ottoman empire and Austria Hungary). WWII begins when Italy joins the Axis in June (set to historical) or if the USSR declares war on them. When Italy enters the war, the buffer zone is passable by all units. This setup puts a lot of control of the war in allied hands should the Russian player decide to surprise attack Germany. Before the war, Russia can also declare war on Sweden since they fall on their respective side of the Buffer zone. If Russia takes Sweden they can attack Norway which would act as another trigger for WWII. USSR must declare war on Italy the turn after attacking Norway. One note of interest is that I could not extend my buffer zone all the way to the edge of the map without the game crashing so pretend it is not there. House rules are relatively few and obvious. 1. You cannot cross the neutral zones until "war" is declared. 2. The neutral zones continue onto the sea hexes. Russia must declare war on Italy one turn after attacking Norway. 3. Germany cannot invade UK or France (if war is declared) until the turn after declaring war. Settings USA-Neutral Italy-Historical Russia-whatever Minors-whatever Remember to use your starting research chits [ October 14, 2003, 12:03 PM: Message edited by: Panzer39 ]
  21. Well to me they should have won World War One. Who knows, the World might have been better off as in no World War II, Cold War, etc. But than if France had gone Fascist because of a harsh treaty imposed by Germany......... [ October 02, 2003, 07:54 PM: Message edited by: Panzer39 ]
  22. Haha good point. Best two out of three could turn into best 3 out of 5 and so on. OR maybe you Euros are just chicken
  23. If there is intrest, why not a round 2?
