  1. Topic. If not, than what is the new format and how does it work?
  2. I hope that the UK government flees to Canada! I'm looking forward to making a huge map. It says the supported size is quite a bit larger than the regular game one.
  3. I noticed two german tank icons in the same screen shot. Does this mean no more automatic upgrades with tech? Or are there different types of tanks (Medium, heavy, etc) Same goes for planes.
  4. Maybe we can get some support for scenario hosting by battlefront when SC2 launches with its much expanded editor.
  5. I love the look of the icons and graphics. 16 types of units! From that small bit of information provided is seems like a ton of our requests were answered. Where can I preorder
  6. I would say it depends on what you call cheap. The things you mentioned I would consider out and out cheating. Some people (including myself on occasion) take advantage of the game engine. Some exploits are: loading and unloading a unit at port to get a supply bonus, surrounding Moscow but not taking it, this preventing the Russians from buying more units, etc. I normally ask whomever I am playing if they want to play with any house rules before starting in order to see what is fair and what's not. I usally go with no invaions of North America till UK has Fallen and no Italian Gambit. Landing a large army by use of transports on the outset of Barbarossa usally riles people up as well. These are mostly personal issues that vary from game to game. As for actual cheating, in my experience, I have not played anyone in PBEM whom I felt has cheated. Probably because there is little incentive to doing so (my rank is abysmal in the league right now). However if you notice that your units are ALWAYS destroyed and not simply damaged from relatively few attacks(replaying for better combat roles) that may be a sign, like wise it could also be a sign of a good player Or if your opponent has level 5 jets in 1940 ( again could be extremely good luck, but less likely). I'm sure some of the more competitive players have more advice than me.
  7. Having lost 99% of their nation to some strange disaster which left them only the state of Maryland, the United States, under President Huey Long, invades Canada. The UK declares war thus setting the stage for WWII. Sides: Axis- Germany, UK, Poland (has already fallen) Allies- France, USA, Italy (set to USA), Canada, Ireland. What's so special: USA starts off with a huge naval force and army spread out between Maryland and Occupied Canada. The UK and German Alliance matches them in Naval power but the Royal Navy is low on supply due to the effects of a US blockade. The USA has the option of reinforcing France and Italy with its starting forces or making a bid for England while Germany is tied down in France. The Med. is locked down with the UK holding Gibraltar, however the Italian and French forces in the Area have the strength to take Egypt. All nations start with tech and halfway historic unit allotments. USA makes a ton of MPPS early on, but is it enough once the German war machine gets moving. Stalin quietly builds up his forces while his capitalist enemies wage war. If you are interested in helping me playtest and giving feedback post here.
  8. I was frustrated by it too, seeing that I had played a game earlier that day as well. I have problems hosting sometimes but never connecting. I'm willing to go with whatever seems fair.
  9. Poots: I don't have ICQ but if you are still interested email me (address in profile) and I'll send you a copy. John: Yes, the Germans need to get cracking right away since the Allies can make it hard on them if they choose to concentrate everything in the defense of France. As for the areas controlled by France, the Italians have always been known to switch sides. To keep Italy allied, the UK can station some troops in Rome and Libya, that is what those understrength corps are for Bill: I will send you the turn for our current game and the scenario file soon.
  10. I'm looking to playtest a new scenario I designed against human opponents. The idea behind it revolves around Italy and the little Entante countries joining the allies after Germany takes Poland. To keep it balanced Spain is set to the Axis and Norway is all but conquered. The USA is lend Leasing to the UK, France and eventually the USSR. Russia up until war is sending materials to Germany. The unit setup is by no means historical but I think I have it balanced enough to play. German U-boats abound in the North Atlantic but the Med is secure for the Allies. The Game starts off on the Allied turn which gives the allied player a few good choices of strategy. Reinforce the Balkans, advance in Norway, Land in Spain, declare war on Iraq, save the Low countries, etc. Italy belongs to France so it makes sense to garrison some cities with UK troops prior to France falling. The USSR starts with 600 extra mpps and the USA with 250 so bidding should not be nessicary (this is why I need to play test All nations start out with research chits, Italy gets 1200 mpps if and when they go Axis. If anyone is interested in trying it out, let me know.
  11. I like that idea especially for the non-1939 scenarios. I think another way to solve the problem would be to create a "free build 1939" scenario that gave each player a stating amount of MPPS and allowed them to buy and place units with the cash before war broke out. As for the Idea alone another way to go could be to make the disbandment of Naval units take several turns. You sell a BB and than get 1/3 of its worth for three turns. By that time France could have fallen
  12. Here is some more info on it http://www.rense.com/general48/diver.htm I believe the story went that Langsdorff shot himself because he truly felt that a captain's fate should be tied to his ship. The last book I read on the Spee had him wanting to die in the scuttling but his officers forcing him off the ship. Who knows though. Check out the Price of Disobedience for a good account of the action and Langsdorff. Does anyone remember what happend to the Prinz Eugen? I know she survived the war only to be used in an USA Abomb test. For some reason I remember her not sinking there either though........
  13. Get well soon old timer........I'm still looking forward to that Plan-Z AAR we have put off forever.
  14. I would like to see attack craft like fighter/bombers and interceptors separated into two different units. The interceptors could eventually become jets. Of course you could use your fighter/bombers to attack enemy air fleets but they would not have the same effectiveness as interceptors. Only interceptors would make interceptions leaving your fighter/bombers ready to attack next turn. Strategic bombers would stay in the game as they are now. There would need to be some balancing like greater range, higher air attack values, and air defense for interceptors while the fighter/bombers would get better ground attack values. The player would have to decide where to invest his chits and also need to spread them out in order to have a balanced air fleet. Hopefully this would kill some of the super air units we get now on a regular basis.
  15. This is so silly. I wish people would take off their blinders and see the big picture. The USA has made a lot of mistakes in the past, but so has every other major power since the dawn of recorded history. When this country steps off the leader stage, falls, or decideds that OUR poor, sick, and uneducated are more important than the rest of the world's, our citizens will get the chance to criticize whatever other country with high ideals decides that they can make a difference. I would love a glimpse of what the world would be like if America was as evil as so many people claim they are. Maybe we would have constructed a big glass dome over our nation and nuked everyone else back into the stone age while our population sipped on a starbucks coffee and ate a Big Mac A little back on topic, maybe we should have gone with the Patton plan and allowed the Nazis to fight with us Against the Soviets. Without that little thing known as the cold war we could have spent the money needed to build the glass dome and make everything run off of oxygen [ December 17, 2003, 03:36 PM: Message edited by: Panzer39 ]
  16. John, that would have been a nice trick seeing that the Kriegsmarine was at most 1/3 the size of the RN. Now if he would have been German......
  17. Well Japan also doomed Germany along with themselves by bombing Pearl. Had they not brought the USA into open conflict with the Axis who knows how the war would have turned out.
  18. You make some good points, most of the additions you want have been asked for many times before. I like your last one about Vichy. I think they should join the allies if neutral and France is liberated. I would also have liked the option of not creating Vichy at all! Hopefully this will happen in SC2
  19. Ah but thats just it, FDR gets defeated by someone else! I think Landen was a pacifist but than he might not even have been a contender. Its late and I might be messing up my history! [ December 01, 2003, 11:13 PM: Message edited by: Panzer39 ]
  20. While in a political science class today my mind wondered into the what if possibility of the Allies taking up Himmler and Doenitz's offer for peace and embarking on a crusade against the Soviets. I think it could be done in SC by giving the UK and USA to the Axis but having them start off in very bad shape. "Allied" units would have to be moved in to save whats left of Germany and the Soviets would have a massive army. I know it could never have really happened but I still would like to get some ideas before trying to create it.
