  1. Some good suggestions here, especially Colin's air op move restriction. Now what about units? I tend to agree with emf's logic, but it might be a bit picky noting Nupremal's "home build" response. Now about those units, how about a more battlegroup friendly philosophy? You know, where you pick a basic foundation like armor or infantry and attach the assets, anti-air, anti-tank, artillery, engineers, heavy armor, assault/special weapons, perhaps even a motor pool for that all important mobility feature? You could do it through the build Q or use your HQs to coordinate the additional asset allocations. I'll be back. You've been warned!
  2. I Have a question for the designer, Nupremal(Vypuero). Was it your intention to restrict research to one chit per category at a time?
  3. Hmm, I'm wondering Moon, occasionally I've done a low level reformat in the bios and I'm just wondering if I would need to deactivate my key for that machine before the format. It hasn't come up yet as I have a couple of SC2s, but just in case I dump Vista and go to XP.
  4. Hope the timing is appropriate to remind our creator of what we need for metamorphosis. 1. The communication layer based upon railroads, main highways, and ports. In essence this will replace the convoy system as it will integrate that feature into an alternating sequence of delivering supplies and resources to and fro. 2. An interdiction feature to interupt the above system by use of air, ground and naval units. This would include the asked for naval surface raiders and may require a zone based naval system, somewhat on the lines of World in Flames with the search calculations. 3. An inherent resource layer that allows assigning generic tiles/hexes with a transferable MPP value. This would create a potential value in all areas that necessitates them a need to be protected/garrisoned. that's the beginning, I don't want to over extend my welcome.
  5. I've got your latest 1.03 edition and have the PTO 1.02 upgrade. Loaded up the campaign on Hotseat and did a few turns from both sides. Didn't observe any problems, although my play was superficial.
  6. Hey Nupr, is there a problem with cmmods? I haven't been able to get on the site to get your 1.03.
  7. I've thought about this often, but instead of the additional movement, I would promote a link capability. This would allow a better supply projection into the more inaccessible areas and may open up new theaters to combat. The investment would represent a greater committment into the infrastructure, like building secondary roads, extending rail lines, upgrades for landing areas, etc. It wouldn't be an indiscriminate decision on a player's part since it would be a great inhibitor for combat action in other areas. Think about how much it narrows your capabilities if you deployed 3 HQs in bad terrain just so you could have supply values greater than 5.
  8. Boy did I ever screw up! DLed the patch and both my Nupremal campaigns become "File read errrors" and my usual opponents have other games going and rightfully are unwilling to restart. I completely understand. But now I've been called by the "Bushido Master" and burdened with the quest of making the outer island defense viable. The "Creator" has visited me with visions of prosecuting the "Co-prosperity Sphere" for the western Pacific in the years of our Father, 1941 through 1946. Long story ....short....I need an Allied opponent for OpZ PTO 1.02. bradtap@aol.com
  9. Does the new patch 1.02 affect ongoing games using Nupremal's campaign? Has anyone tried it?
  10. You know Scott this is just what I want SC global to evolve into, a 'what if', a tool for experimentation with a laboratory environment under the constraints of plausible World War Two parameters. With those tools we can examine exactly the question you are asking, generally speaking and ....many others,.....ain't it beautiful?
  11. Sure , Terif's rendition would have been nice, but I doubt it would've top this, excellent job Tim. This is just the kind of thing that gets those SC juices flowing.
  12. You can actually model the historical use of island strongholds by operating your air units around. I know its a bit expensive and I know there are not many available, but you could(as I've expressed b/4) give them double strike capability. Again, as historical, you can isolate certain islands, but not all and only intermittently as the location of HQs make the properly garrisoned island stronghold very dangerous if the CTVs are adjusted to make landbased air deadly to naval units. One thing Nupremal did in his mod, which I agree with, is he turned anti-tank units into garrison units and gave each major the ability to produce plentiful numbers. Now these modifications don't substitute the obvious need for the supply net that has been spoken of many times, but at least with the current PTO model it helps bring in a little more historical perspective to the mechanics.
  13. ahem! One more time. Its simple, give the carriers a single very effective naval strike only, with only a dim chance at causing ground unit casualties as an alternative mission. That way you have to concentrate enormous CV power for invasions to deal with garrisons, or take the nearby islands to base Tactical and strategic Bombers for reduction. Next, give the land based air deadly naval attack powers so that basing them on islands makes it very risky for task forces to come into their proximity without adequate land based fighter cover. Now can you see the value of islands?
  14. Yeah Nup, that's what I meant, thanks. I've been trying to get a new game going but have been having a problem with my opponent's turn giving me a "File read error". Most probably an error with his internet service, just wanted to make sure as I also have other games going with this mod. I'm going ahead with the upgrade, thanks again for a great campaign.
  15. Nupremal, is 1.02 compatible with your earlier versions?
  16. I'm hip, Nupe! You have made an extraordinary campaign, I won't question your judgement, this thing is captivating. Thing is, I don't want to read about the campaign, I want to go blindly, I want the unknown as the original participants had. Anyway, happycat and I are deep into Autumn 41 and Manstein and Bock are both bogged down in the Scottish Highlands with very difficult going. Even though the UK has been totally isolated the Royal Navy continues to be a royal pain in the butt. I've brought in heavy shore batteries to exact some sort of respect from the RN, but the land resistance continues to divert my attention from a focused naval campaign. Spain, Portugal and finally Gibraltar have all fallen and I now have 2 Army Groups ready for redeployment, one German, one Italian, after I hand off the garrison responsiblities for the Iberian peninsula. I'm trying to figure out how to assault North Africa, specifically Morroco, Algiers and Tunisia and keep the British out of Tobruk. With one end of the Med sealed, half the objectives for that theater have been realized, only the Suez remains. Japan is now at war also with UK and I have to admit I do not envy happycat's position, he is truly alone with minuscule assets, excluding the RN of course. I have an inclination to develop a strategy to attack India and then link up with Axis forces pushing through the Middle East in my own version of Operation Orient. Only one problem.....the Red Army. All my Allies are in, Finland, Rumania, Bulgaria, and Hungary, but I have this nagging feeling that this may be my high water mark....ominous it is! The conflict continues.
  17. That's a nice thought Nupremal and I'm sure the sub scenario would benefit, but with historical perspective to the North Atlantic WW2 campaign, Iceland played a significant part. Maybe you ought to consider a couple of land tiles with a port as a token deployment area for the Allies' efforts.
  18. That's interesting Scott and Tim about your Indian campaign perspectives as I have thought numerous times of prosecuting something similar. With Scott revealing the rather sparse UK reinforcements for India, I'm wondering if a split force strategy in conjunction with bomber deployments might restrict Allies from operating in air units to help. Also with efficiency reduced(cities< 50%) perhaps those rejuvenated UK cadres could be limited to narrower areas of redeployment dictated by Japan's bomber raids? Another possibility Tim, what about using Port Blair and Ceylon to stage TAC air from to inhibit Allied naval activity in the Bay of Bengal? Perhaps its worth the extra HQ/logistics support.
  19. Well Summer of 41 is over and the UK continues to hold firm as the capital has moved deep into the northern highlands based in Glasgow. Losses for Seelowe so far have been 3 armies, a tank corps and a number of garrison units, which were anti-tank units in version 1.00, and one corps. The High Command is not exactly happy with my efficiency. Both Manstein and Bock are now consolidating their positions which extend as far north as Manchester with strategic bombers reducing the UK lendlease ports. A large contigent of the Luftwaffe is now in complete control of the skies of southern England and the English channel as Wehrmacht forces shuttle back and forth from the continent without incident. In Spain, after the fall of Madrid and subsequent move of the capital to Lisbon, the campaign continues according to plan. Ariete and both Panzer Korps have just about succeeded in cutting the Iberian peninsula in half with supply trains straining to keep pace with their rapid advance. Hopefully Autumn will see the cessation of all hostilities and a return of peace to Southern Europe. UK forces have attacked Bardia and after a token resistance the Italian defenders vacated the area to deploy into the fortifications of Tobruk. Not being satisfied with the goodwill example of the Italians the deplorable Limeys assault Tobruk. The Axis will be preparing to give the Commonwealth forces a good dose of Karma in the coming weeks. Elsewhere in Africa around "the Horn" the Royal Navy has sunk all Italian coastal patrol boats and Italian ground forces have moved inland after constant Royal Marine raids ruined more than just a few pasta dinners. Asia has seen a mutual understanding between French IndoChina and the Japanese for cooperation and wouldn't you know it, the jealous American swine cut off all oil exports to the friendly Nipponese. These guys are just itching for a fight! Well if that's what they want.....then they'll get it! USSR and USA both at 61%.
  20. You know that reminds me, one of my long time playing partners always goes for the max level mobility. Every version of SC he plays it seems that level two movement really gets his forces in blitzkrieg mode and he overwelms my land forces, particularly where the terrain is rough. Might be a good idea to make that a high priority for your forces next time in PTO, perhaps the world scenarios also.
  21. Brother Rambo and Kuni will be back first of May. I know both have been playing quite a lot, that happens when you keep your mouth shut! Anyway, I for one will be glad to have them back and I'm sure they'll have some interesting comments and observations, especially with regards to Nupremal's global model, which is as far as I'm concerned the point of SC evolution, currently.
  22. Of course its not, but if you neglect to inhibit your opponent's artillery or any other of his units' development for that matter then there should be a price and that's my point. I'll cite a current SC2 world campaign I have going now with agamemnon, he was devastating my shore bombarding naval units with his strategic air, but finally I got LR tech with the appropriate range and took them out. They were destroying any naval unit with 2 attacks, so that was 5 strength points per attack. This has always been the MO for SC with a variety of units, its not unusual, but people complain that the game gets too bloody towards the end. I think its alright because lots of units are engaged and their needs to be an adjusting factor for the map's unit density plus it represents an actual scenario of the use of highly trained troops using high tech weaponry. Think about present day military operations prosecuted on a scale of activity that SC represents(WW2). All the high tech weaponry of today makes things very destructive in a very short period of time. A culmination point arrives quickly. It is realistic.
  23. Touche' Refer to Post #83 by Nupremal. I've seen air units and rockets take out 4 to 5 strength points in a single attack, so why not artillery?
  24. So Scott you wouldn't target a unit that has no air defense with said air that could take 4 to 5 strength points off your defenders? I want to play you! On second thought ....nahhh...I don't like pushovers!
  25. It seems players are neglecting to target Artillery with their air units, assigning higher priority to other enemy units,.... bad decision making IMO. As was historical, air units were quite effective at taking out the deadly "Queen" of the battlefield. Even more enticing were those shore batteries near landing beaches, like Pont du Hoc, they even get a Ranger/special Ops detachment in conjunction with a massive air assault. Kind of reiterates their importance...ehhh? By the way Nup., one of my playing partners says 1.01 does not have Iceland on it. I've got 1.00 currently going and it has Iceland. What's up?
