  1. This is one terribly bright fellow.
  2. You won't find me bunching up! :)Unless it's a Tuesday and I'm playing Flenser. Useful post Nemesis. I assume this is the Nemesis from over at CMHQ? I couldn't agree with you more about prep bombardments being a waste. With few exceptions I never do this for the reasons you outlined. One note to mention that is at least worth considering on this topic is that arty is more effective in CMAK (than BB). It's not a drastic difference, but it's enough that arty should clearly be thought of differently. I would much sooner consider prep bombardment with light FOs in AK. In contrast I tend to agree with Jason more, at least philosophically about destroying the enemy forces being a higher priority than the flags. Certainly it isn't black and white, and you can often use control over an enemy flag, to lure him into positions to better destroy his forces, and so on. Best to use both in your tactical thinking for the synergy. As to most games end with the plenty of enemy forces still on the board . . well, in my experience that's just because my opponents tend to surrender or something well before the time limit is up.
  3. How about I hijack the ROW thread to encourage any vets in the ROW tourney to see my post in the opponent finder forum? I don't feel bad about this hijack as there is no excuse for the ROW thread to be so far down the ladder anyway. Needs a bump that doesn't smell like Dawg
  4. no it would not. hitting the Panther is not the problem. </font>
  5. I just have to post this turn again. This is a t34/85 firing at a panther, the shot bounces and knocks out another t34/85 right next to it! Want to an example of how ingenius the physics are in this game? Watch this turn. Here is the to the turn: http://www.the111.com/rockmacrowIII071.txt password is "303" The action happens at 59-60 seconds.
  6. Yep. And JC curiously disappeared a few turns into that game  Anyway, not trying to be a prick we've just gone through Flamethrowers and how to use them well so many times it's hard to contribute anything fresh to the topic.
  7. "Use for Flamethrowers?" Regurgitated discussion in the BF forum?
  8. Light mortars may be overmodeled in CM. I'm don't have the scholarship to back such a debate (and neither do most of you weasels that talk too much!! ). But I can say I give the light mortars, save the brit 2inch, the MVP award in CM. I come from the school that says never move a vehicle into unscouted territory without mortar over-watch. No exceptions. If you obey that rule light mortars quickly become more useful to you because of their mobility. The lights are quite effective in CM!! Especially those russian 50mm.
  9. What you fail to understand is that your way, some 1 vs 1 duel of uber guns is not necessarly the best way. It works, yes. And so does flanking. Just because you don't do it often or have not had great success with it, doesn't mean it does not work well. I'm not suggesting it is easy to use 76mm for a flank shot. . . but it isn't that hard. This is not some elite tactic that only a few people can use well, but it does take more skill off the starting line . . .that much is true. But I tell you in my experience I have used t34/76s to kill tigers, succussfully, 100 times for every 1 time I used valentines or IS-152s. It isn't that hard when timing is mastered, and I'll take it over some 50/50 1 vs 1 "fair fight" dice roll any day.
  10. Because you shoot and miss doesn't mean something cannot penetrate. You said the 76 has to be 100m distance or less to kill a tiger from the flank. That is just flat wrong, so stop misleading people here to reinforce your whinning. The truth is it can pentrate out closer to 1000m than 100 with a lower hull flank shot, and no amount of whinning on your part will change that fact. 45mmL66 can even penetrate the lower hull flank out to 350m.
  11. Run an actual test, or better yet do the elementary math in your head and you will see the rough penetration range he posted was correct.
  12. Please note again there is quite a difference with this sort of thing between BB and AK (I don't even count BO). In AK, firing 81mm mortars at a tank, for example, has a much better chance of knocking a track out or gun damage than BB. It's a big enough difference that in BB I wouldn't waste the ammo in the above example, while in AK I might very well give it a go (if someone was parked for a few turns with one of their tanks). Note also another example that is likely lesser known, and interesting. If you area fire 75mm HE at the front of a bunker in BB, you will not cause any casualties. In AK, the splash will kill a random crew member. After you whack enough crew members the pillbox bails. This allows you to take out those nasty AT pillboxes from the safety of a nice keyhole You're welcome.
  13. password is "303" From Paul, "Action is as follows. A small village in which i have several T-34/85 rush into the path of a Panther. I get one T-34 to within 51m. The action happens at 59-60 seconds. The 51m distant T-34 gets in a penetration at the panthers weak spot and then a T-34 that is 91m away fires.. gets a lower hull deflection which ricochets back and ko's the T-34 that is 51m away from the Panther." 14. Well as long as it isn't "things that go bang in the night"
  15. Yikes. That is really high. This is across dry open ground right? So how about roads? Would be interesting to run a few tests on dirt roads to see how often it happens. Cheers Paul </font>
  16. I just ran a lengthy bogging test comparing BB to AK. It confirms my earlier posts on this decisively. In both cases I fast moved tiger Is (middle varient), 4000m over flat dry ground, july '43. 6 sets of 320 tanks. At the end of the run I counted the immobilized tanks. BB 1,920 tanks, 201 immobile =10.4% AK 1,920 tanks, 68 immobile= 3% If this were even close you could debate it somewhat, but it seems pretty clear that even BF wanted to tone it down a bit in AK.
  17. Alright, now my computer rookiness exposes it's full measure. I have this turn now on my desktop, and want to post it so anyone can download it. I know how to post screenshots through imageshack, but this one is over my head. Is there anyone that can post it if I email it to them? This turn is a must see!
  18. Unfortunately, flashes of anger are not worth much. My flashes of memory are of German tanks getting bogged. Are they worth the same as your flashes? Probably, and the value is approaching '0'. </font>
  19. I wasn't aware Norwegians were capable of such profound emotion. Anyway I'm at work right now. When I get home I'll post Paul's wacky wacky turn here.
  20. Perhaps you weren't inclined to use your advantages with Russian armor in all those games! Yes of course the higher psi kraut armor should be more susceptible . . . I really can see both sides of this discussion. I just think it would be nice for those of us who tend to play smaller games, to have the option.
  21. Spoken like a true Agnostic! I emailed Paul to see if he saved the turn. Even though it's over a year ago when this happened, I wouldn't be surprised if he still has it.
