  1. 1. The ability for the US to lend lease (decreasing US entry chance and increasing the amount of MPP's the allies gain each turn) before entering the war and for the axis to initiate unrestricted submarine warfare (increasing US entry chance, and the amount of MPP's lost by the allies each turn). 2. On the global scale, there needs to be a good way to simulate the war in china. 3. Having the game start in 1936 so there is more chance for alternate histories. -A german polish pact -Allied intervention in 1938 (could result in some eastern nations joining germany, something would need to be worked out) -Japan does better against the USSR or doesn't attack at all. -The Spanish civil war -etc, etc, etc 4. Simulte the finnish war with the USSR Just some thoughts off the top of my head.
  2. There were some other "railroad guns" used by the germans, Anzio Annie comes to mind. The germans destroyed it after the allied broke out of the Anzio beachead. The gun was actually a railroad gun hidden in a mountail while it was being loaded and then driven out to be fired. There may of been two of them but I can't remember. Just thought I'd give some more info into the conversation.
  3. Paratroopers are a great addition. I think their supply should be halved every turn until they are relieved. While in normal supply I think that the appropriate support battalions (AA, Artillery, Armor, etc) would be represented by making this unit act(attack/defend) like the other ground units. After a Drop and while not having the support of those attachments, they would still fight like the other units for 1 turn while their supply is full. This would represent the eliment of surprise. The next turn, after the surprise is gone, their supply (and thus readiness) is halved. The supply is continually halved every turn after that. So the supply is 10 -> 5 -> 2 -> 1 -> 0. Or something like that... A unit like this will definitely add a new deminsion to the game. My brother just got back from Iraq (hes in the 82nd MP) and sent me the following: The Rule of the LGOP's "After the demise of the best Airborne plan, a most terrifying effect occurs on the battlefield. This effect is known as the rule of the LGOPs. This is, in its purest form, small groups of pissed of 19 year old American paratroopers. They are well-trained, armed to the teeth and lack serious adult supervision. They collectively remember the Commander's intent as "March to the sound of the guns and and kill anyone who is not dressed like you..." or something like that. Happily they go about the days work......" Just thought I'd share it. Also, contrary to what you aways hear on the news, he said just about all of his company hates to jump out of planes.
  4. I wish there was a date, either beta testing or something. There are three things in business...Price, Speed, and Quality. The problem is you can only pick two. I believe Hubert has picked Price and Quality. By leaving the development team small (himself) and by not releasing the product until most of the problems (the obvious ones) have been worked out. Speed has been sacrificed. A decision that definitely has its merits...no matter how frustating it may be for the consumer at times. A few months of frustration for an in-expensive, quality product. I for one will take that over an over-priced game that would find its way to my "drawer of forgotten games" I believe by not releasing a date, he is trying to avoid painting himself into a corner and releasing it before he is ready. At least we can hope for AAR's while beta testing is going on.
  5. The problem comes back to the fact that there is no way to simulate the US industries gearing up for war time production. If we could add some cities or ports at a value of 1 and let them ramp up to the Max over time that would work. But we can't. Sucks. As is, the US is a minor ally that can build units, HQ's and develop tech. Nothing more, nothing less. In most games the war is all but decided before the US even joins, let alone gets involved.
  6. Try this link. It has to be in there somewhere. http://www.teacheroz.com/WWIImaps.htm
  7. 2 units in Poland (Germany's Eastern Frontier)at the start. 2 more around October 1940. 2 more for when Romania joins the axis. 2 more for when Hungary joins the axis. 2 more for when Bulgaria joins the axis. Or something like that. Follow this link and look at page 6 Bill Macon's and Dan Fenton's SC Strategy Guide (PDF)
  8. The Axis controls everything on mainland Europe except Turkey, Spain and Portugal (I think). The Swiss may still be free too but I can't remember right now. In Africa the Axis controls everything East of Tripoli, but not Tripoli itself. Does this game look similar Curry? [ October 14, 2003, 08:57 AM: Message edited by: Jordy ]
  9. It is going to be a very interesting next couple of turns. But... Ik hoop u verliest. Europa moet worden bevrijd en de Duitsers moeten worden gemaakt om voor hun misdaden tegen de wereld te betalen. Kreeg ik het Nederlandse recht?
  10. Hey! No fair bragging. It's a very interesting game. I made a mistake going into the Med with my fleet. What level long-range air do you have anyway? Anyway, I should of went for France right away and left the Med. alone. And by moderate damage in the east, except for the Zhukov HQ, I think its pretty even. We both have a double line set up and it has definitely reverted to trench warfare. Finland has been back and forth and I'm expected it to move back towards leningrad again. UK has 6 airfleets, level 3 jets with level 4 Long-Range. All the ports and mines in the west have been bombed down to 0 for sometime now and the airfleets have about 3 bars of experience. The problem is I think Germany has something like 40 to 50 airfleets with a similar, if not the same, tech levels. I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose this game. But we'll see. I think german moral is bottoming out with the length of the war and the constant bombing in the west. Oh, wait, there is no moral in this game. Shoot.
  11. Well, hotmail isn't working right now. Server too busy. I will try again later at 5:00 pm tonight. We'll figure it out from there.
  12. Send me your email address. I'll give it a shot. Mine is in my profile.
  13. There are a couple allied (well american) fighters that were armed with cannons. One is famous, the other not so much. The American P-38 Lightning, an excellent fighter in its own rights, was equipped with a 20 mm cannon, 4 50 cal. mchine guns, and could be retrofitted with rockets or bombs. The P-39 Airacobra was not used that much by the americans because it had poor flight characteristics due to where the engine was mounted (behind/below the pilot), when cornering at high speeds the plane could "roll" and lose control. With the engine not being mounted in the front of the plane (where the cannon was) the pilot couldn't just point the fighter downward to regain control because the weight that is there on other fighters, wasn't there on this one. Anyway, I'm rambling, so it had one 37mm T9 cannon, two .50 cal machine guns, and four .30 cal machine guns. It was used by the Soviets though, primarily to attack tanks. I can't remember if this was said earlier in the thread, but the allies really lost the need to arm their fighters with cannons when they started pumping out planes and pilots (trained in the US on secure, safe airfields). They had enough planes and pilots to make air, ground, and strategic specific aircraft, and kept the mixing of the three to a minimum. The Germans, running low on pilots and with no place to train them (not to mention they didn't even really have a training regimen in place) needed to mix the three (well two really, minus strategic). And later in the war the cannons were used not for ground support, not for air superiority, but primarily to destroy bombers. Whether that was the original intention or not is debatable, but it was what their primary use became. On the fighters anyway. As for the RAF I don't know much about their fighter specs.
  14. Sounds good to me. I'm impressed at how well you guys are running the league. You must be doing something right to get so much positive feedback and to be able to come to a conclusion to this rule that seems to keep everyone happy while at the same time keeping the arguing to an absolute minimum.
  15. Looks like we posted at the same time Kurt88. thanks for the change. It doesn't really effect me but I am playing some people who take a while between turns. Thanks again.
  16. I agree whole-heartedly with the rule. And thank you both for setting up and administrating the league. And thank you both again for being so open and listening to input. (Not just stating, "I am administartor, what I say goes" ) Back to the point now. The rule is good, I was just making a suggestion that maybe it be lengthened so that the total amout of time be two weeks. Thats all. Just a suggestion. That gives the players who do one turn a week time to recover if they miss a week. Again, you guys are doing a great job. Keep it up. Ik dank allebei van u voor het uitstekende werk u doet.
  17. Is the new house rule the respond in a week one? If so, maybe it should be changed to 10 days with the warning period of 4 days (two weeks total). I know I sometimes have to go out of town on business on short notice, and while I try and inform the people I am playing, sometimes I cannot. Most of these trips are about 1 week long. Then when I get home it takes a couple days to unpack, read mail, read email, do laundry, etc, etc... So I may lose my game or worse and not even know until its too late. With 10 and 4 days I think it would just be better. Its PBEM, so my feeling is the period of no-responsiveness should be a little longer. If I had time, I would be playing TCP. Just my thoughts, it doesn't really matter to me. I think I'm on good terms with the administrators anyway. Expecially Curry, who's kicking my A** right now!
  18. Thanks, had those for about a year now. But good information for those who didn't know about them.
  19. By lowly I mean version 1.01 or something like that. Actually I may of even preordered it. Anyway, I know these icons are not on my disk. Oh well, what Exel said. [ October 09, 2003, 04:39 PM: Message edited by: Jordy ]
