  1. I don't think that you should be made aware that the gun on the enemy tank has malfunctioned. I think that sound contacts for infantry are too sensitive; you can "hear" them coming in noisy conditions from farther away than I would expect. I think that the direction that sound contacts for vehicles approach should be more random; when you see a "?" tank moving along an imaginary road, it's not hard at all to guess what real road it's really moving down. I don't think that you should be able to tell the experience level of the enemy units or how many of how many are alive/dead (just how many you see). Probably others that I can't think of at the moment.
  2. Unless it's changed, you can connect outside of the TPG site. I may be able to find my old config/connection file for mIRC that I was using. If not, I'll dig up the solution and post it.
  3. You can connect to this chat using a 3rd party application like mIRC, I used to do it - don't recall how I used to do it, but I did. I can try and dig up the info for you if interested.
  4. Try: http://www.the-proving-grounds.com/chat.html
  5. Firefox is probably tripping on the CSS navigation menu that I have on the page, which wouldn't affect whether or not you can connect to the IRC channel via the Java applet. Here's the warning that I get regarding the security certificates. I just click "ok" and I log on, these may be part of the problem though: Might check for a certificate for "Open Key Project" and either clear that entry and then accept that certificate. One more thing - I have it so that it auto-populates your handle from the site into the chat "nickname" field. This is based on the cookie that you have stored for TPG. In my testing just now, if I'm not logged into TPG and that nickname field doesn't populate, then I don't connect. Do this, log out of TPG (http://www.the-proving-grounds.com/logout.html) and then log back in from the page that you go to after you've logged out. Then try to connect to the chat. I have a feeling that may work.
  6. The only other thing that I can think of at the moment is to perhaps try a 3rd party IRC client. I know that I used to use mIRC to connect to #TPGchat. That was a couple of years ago and the specifics of how I did it are beyond me at the moment, maybe someone with more IRC experience than me can chime in. Just as a test, you might try disabling your firewall/ISS and then seeing if you can connect. If so, you'd at least know what the source of the problem is.
  7. Here I is.... Make sure that you have the latest version of Java installed, www.java.com Also, there's a security certificate warning that you may see. If you clicked "deny" at one point that would block the connection. Depending on your browser, you'll have to modify or delete the properties for that certificate ("Manage Certificates" in Opera for example, not sure how to get there in Firefox and/or IE offhand). Those are the first two things that come to mind. Firewall shouldn't be an issue, however an internet security suite may be blocking the connection, so if you're using something like Norton or McAfee, check the permissions in those applications and see if there's an entry for something for "Webmaster.com". I was hoping to find some other possible solutions on their website at http://www.webmaster.com/ but I'm not seeing anything in the FAQ....
  8. I played ASL years ago, but I haven't pushed around cardboard counters in quite some time now. And my prospects of doing that again anytime soon are nil. My three kids would absolutely love messing up any game I actually had to keep set up for more than three minutes. </font>
  9. I think that it will be that following Friday, the 30th of February.
  10. Modding the start up screen BMP's wouldn't have any effect, it's something in the CMBB.VBS and or CMAK.VBS (maybe shared), which is the visual basic script that tells Pbem Helper how to manipulate the screens by sending the appropriate key presses. Is this something that just started happening, or has it never worked? Did you download Pbem Helper recently or try to download it again?
  11. Was the CMHQ chat still being used? Guess so, if there was a request to fix it. At any rate, the chat on TPG is the same program (I believe) so it should work as the CMHQ chat did.
  12. Isn't there a new VASSAL module that you should be working on instead -E?
  13. I used to have some cute little bot scripts that I could run too.
  14. You guys are more than welcomed to use the chat on TPG/TSDII: http://www.the-proving-grounds.com/chat.html
  15. Hehe, I used to have a girl that would bug me all the time by calling. I'd do the crumpled paper trick and tell her that the cell connection was bad. After a few times of that, she got the hint. Ok, ok, I should of just told her to stop bugging me, but I'm bad about that.
  16. Sorry to be suspicious, but I think that only the top vehicle came from CM - the halftrack has a rounded front wheel that CM doesn't have (is it from Panzer Command perhaps?) and the KV looks too good. The Jadgpanther is obviously CM. [ September 12, 2006, 05:27 AM: Message edited by: GJK ]
  17. Crumple a piece of paper next to the microphone, it should come out sounding as you expect if you adjust the levels just right.
  18. The nice thing about VASL is the ability to actually conceal (HIP) units from your opponent. I suppose you do the same thing with the boardgame version by jotting down the hex #'s that your HIPsters are in, but VASL makes it nice when you see a transparent unit there and but your opponent sees none. Several other features that VASL has that's really nice.
  19. That was my question when first playing VASL via pbem. It actually works out pretty good if you coordinate with your opponent just a bit beforehand on some ground rules. Some like to move a few units at a time first and then will send the log back at that point to await moving the rest of their units in the next log after viewing the results of any DF up to there. Some will move all of their units and add a note in the log to the effect of "stop log and return upon entering Residual" And some will move everyone and say to just finish all your defensive fire, irregardless of residual fire or breaks.
  20. Oh wow, that is big! Looks great though. Just emailed Michael to see if he's up to the challenge.
  21. Very nice - I just emailed Michael about easing up to VOtG rules - I'll go grab that right now! Edit: Peter, I assumed it was at SZO but don't see it in the files section (unless I'm overlooking it) - do you have a link? [ September 05, 2006, 06:55 AM: Message edited by: GJK ]
