  1. This approach makes a lot of sense to me. Maintenance of files clearly isn't free and 5MB-10MB/month seems reasonable. If you have a month where you are fantastically active, you can spring for the $5. It would seem that this is a rational way to facilitate the maximum amount of communication without having an undue burden put on the administration of the system. Count me as a positive response!
  2. Hi. I have had the issue that I could not run Combat Mission (BB or AK) when I got a new system with the Vista operating system. My investigation turned up the fact that my NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT was the problem. So I started looking for new drivers, but found none. However, in late July 2008, NVIDIA came out with a new driver which may (or may not) fix the problem for the 8600 GT. But I don't know that it works because I have the 8600M GT. The "M" version is a special version for laptops like my Dell. NVIDIA tells me that I have to wait for Dell to issue an updated driver because of its status as an "M" version. I hope they do it soon so I can give it a try.
  3. Hi, Is anybody having problems running CMAK or CMBB with the new Windows Vista? If you are, and I am, do you have any solutions? Thanks! Eric
  4. Hi, An easy question for you CMAK buffs. Is the calculation methodology stated anywhere as to how the total points going towards victory stated anywhere? For example, say I had 1 vehicle destroyed, 3 men killed, 20 non-death casualties, and 3 men taken prisoner. Would the total points my opponent earns be based on some fixed amount per man or would it be based on the unit values? Thanks!
  5. Rocket-Man Kudus for the enhancements! My apologies for being a newbie, but I've searched for information about mods and installing them and found little information. Everyone knows about them but me. From what I've read, my guess is: 1. Some mods come with rules attached. Would this be things like swampy ground would have a higher chance of vehicles bogging. 2. Some mods are just changes in the visuals and the underlying rules remain the same. For these mods it is just a matter of changing the visual effect. 3. For mods which just change the visual effect the process to change is: a. save existing bmp [in case you want to go back to them]with a different name. So, for example, 1520.bmp might become 1520a.bmp. b. download and save the new mod 1520.bmp in the CMAK BMP folder All this being said, there is no necessity to use the CMMOS 4.03 mod loader. Do I have it more or less right? Thanks! Eric
  6. Some random CM questions: 1. Do they ever tell exactly what "transport class" means? If I remember right it goes something like 0 to 6. Is it related to what it can tow or is it at all related to passenger capacity? 2. For "passenger capacity" do they define this somewhere? And this question is probably related to #1 above. Units, if I understand correctly, can be "split-squads", "observers", "teams", and squads. I've never been exactly sure of the relative size, as it would seem that they are ordered in terms of size by how I have listed them, with "split-squads" being the smallest unit and squads being the largest unit. I don't remember what passenger capacities I've seen, but I think I've seen "team" and "squad". As I've seen it it seems that you can always put a "split squad" on a vehicle, you can never put an observer on a vehicle [which I have yet to understand], teams seem to fit on vehicles and squads fit on some vehicles. Sometimes I've gotten a team and a squad on a vehicle, but I don't know the logic here. Complicating all of this is the fact that German & Soviet squads seem to be "big" [6 to 10 soldiers] whereas US/British squads seem to be smaller [3 to 4 soldiers].

  8. Hi. I've always found it a challenge to understand the topography of battlefields in CMBB. This is especially true when there are small variations in elevation over wide ranges. Walking the battlefield is not a good substitute for having a good topo map. Has anyone seen a mod which might create a topo map from a CMBB regular map? Thanks! Eric
