  1. And remember, if you didn't have all six of the surrounding units under a HQ command, your attacks will be less effective.
  2. Nice to see someone else appreciates Carl Davis' music to the World at War. I have a short suite of World at War conducted by Davis on a BBC CD. It includes the intro music and some snippets of the remaining music (such as the Shostakovich like march, used for the Russian episodes.) If you are working from the DVD's of World at War then perhaps you don't need the suite. If you are copying it from tape, then perhaps I can send you the suite which has CD quality sound. Let me know......... And by the way, for anyone out there who doesn't have World at War on Tape (mine was on beta, it's so old) get the complete series on DVD for about 100 bucks....it is a bargain and well worth it for such a great ducumentary.... Now if only World War I, narrarated by Robert Ryan would come out on DVD, I would be in heaven!... [ August 09, 2002, 05:28 PM: Message edited by: J Wagner ]
  3. Playing the 39 campaign as the Axis, you are already at war with Britian, France, and Poland, so there is no need for a declaration of war.
  4. I have 2 Italian Armies, 1 HQ, 1 Air Fleet, and one Tank Corp pounding away at Tobruk. Why? Because it's there.........
  5. ST, I was approaching it from the Axis side...based on what you said, does that mean that when you play the Axis at a higher difficulty setting, the transfer will come sooner and that they will be delayed longer at the easier settings?
  6. Did you use the uninstaller program to delete the game? If you simply deleted the folder, then your pc may still have info about the original installed game in your registry. If you have a program like Norton Utilities, run WinDoctor, then do a new install.
  7. I'm not sure if it is from Art of War or from Matrix games Steel Panthers World at War.... it is familiar though...perhaps there is a repository of "stock music" similiar to Ed Wood using "stock footage" in his movies...
  8. Bill, I would agree with you regarding the game scale if the current game did not already include weekly turns. I think someone needs to explain to me the reason monthly turns occur during winter months. Is it only because of the weather? If thats the case, whats the weather effects in North Africa during the winter? I know there have been debates around here that too many changes will make the game too difficult. I agree with this premise, but I don't think changing the game to weekly turns and adding weather effects will change the scale or turn off a potential buyer....just a thought for the future, believe me, I'm enjoying this game just as it is...
  9. What version of windows are you using? Also can you tell me exactly what the message says?
  10. I think the partisan only objective should be to retake Belgrade. If they succeed, the Germans would lose the mmps. So as the German player, you need to keep a unit in the capital and suffer costly attrition loses, unless you send in more corps to wipe the partisans out. 11. I think Battlefront needs to add a Future Suggestions and Wish List Forum for SC, unless there are no future plans for an SCII. If however, SC is only the first, and an SCII will be developed, it is never too early to make suggestions. There are many suggestions scattered all about here i.e "Advanced SC" but others are lost in a myriad of threads. With this in mind, I will add a suggestion here based on my playing the full game. The idea is not new, I'm simply emphasizing it Weekly Turns and Weather Zones I feel the monthly and bi weekly turns would be unnecessary if there were weather zones charted on the map. Weather Zone 1 Russia Weather Zone 2 Northern Europe Weather Zone 3 Central Europe Weather Zone 4 Western Europe Weather Zone 5 UK and Ireland Weather Zone 6 Southern Europe Weather Zone 7 North Africa Weather Zone 8 US and Canada These zones could even be divided further for example, 2 or 3 zones in Russia. The weather could potentially change in each zone every week based on three factors: 1 the weather from the previous week 2 the weather zone 3 the season The weather available could be: Clear Rain Snow Fog Certain weather of course could not occur in a particular zone, snow in Zone 7 for example, or more frequently such as Fog in Zone 4. Weather effects would include: Movement Restrictions Operation Movement Restrictions Combat effectiveness Supply line reductions Air attack limitations Strategic Bombing limitations You could click onto a weather map to see the current weather in each zone and as mentioned by others, the hex colors could change. Anyway, I feel this is one aspect of the game which could be improved and would not compromise the complexity level. I have no problem playing a game that has 52 turns per year, afterall that's what the save feature is for. I don't think it's a strong selling point to say "You can complete the game in one sitting" Most gamers have no worry about that.
  12. I'm guessing here but will the difficulty level you select impact when they arrive? Perhaps the higher the difficulty, the sooner they come. Maybe there is a certain criteria that needs to be met?
  13. Thanks Norse for the update and I'm finding out that the AI isn't lame all on my own...I am relieved though that you were on easy settings...enjoy!
  14. It's nice to see the French are aggressive and attacking my border units while I finish off Denmark and Norway. It prevents me from leaving a bare boned army in the west and it costs me mmps to reinforce my minimal losses. It's a nice nuisance and perhaps might escalate if I dont move quickly enough....
  15. arax, when you installed the complete game, did you use the default download loaction C:\Program Files\Strategic Command, because that is where the patch will download to....if you renamed or moved your file to a diffeent drive then that's the problem... 16. Norse...what were your difficulty settings? You did all that by '43?.....I hope you used the easiest settings or solo hotseat play, otherwise you are advertising the AI as being totally lame...
  17. It should arrive with your standard Saturday mail...
  18. Guys, there is a note that accompanies the patch which says the following.... NOTE: All previously saved games with version 1.0 will not be compatible with v1.02. It is recommended that you delete the contents of your 'Save' and 'PBEM' folders once you have applied this patch. Just to let you know, so if you are really into a great campaign right now, don't install the patch until you are done. For those of you who are still waiting for the game, download the patch now and save it on your desktop so you won't forget to install the patch before playing your first game...enjoy!
  19. It is here in Central Jersey too...see ya for now...
  20. See Here.... http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=18;t=000707
  21. I triangulated a point from Canada, Norway, and Kentucky...Yup, New Jersey is next....hope my map is right....
  22. Norway!...geez I should expect the game today here in New Jersey....have fun....
  23. I'll second that...I used to spend alot of time on the OOTP forum, but so many of the posters are either, or have become, such arrogant, self righteous, all knowing, fools, that I got tired of reading their nonsence....it's nice to be around a group such as this....
  24. Panzer, what difficulty settings were you using?..I wonder about the challenge that the AI can put up....
  25. Keep in mind that historically, Poland did hold out for close to a month. They would probably have performed a bit better than that had they set up their defences further back into the country rather than initially try to defend their entire border. So knocking them off in only one turn should be more difficult than you may at first believe. [ August 02, 2002, 05:38 AM: Message edited by: J Wagner ]
