  1. I believe Aloid mixed and matched the unit icons and now you have me wondering where he has been? I cannot recall a post from him in awhile...I hope he is ok....
  2. Group North, you make a valid point and I would worry about complexity. I'm not a programmer so, being unqualified, bear with me. The basic gamplay of SC is pleasantly streamlined and I would hope that this philosophy could be converted into a game of this scale... I know one concern that has been mentioned in other posts, is that the AI would take forever to make its' move in a game of this magnitude. I don't know if this is true or not. But consider that your turn would take awhile to finish as would your opponent if you were playing against a friend. I think of all the times in my board gaming days when I could have roasted a turkey and carved it up before my buddy finished his move, and he could have completely read War and Peace while I pondered mine!....so if the AI may take a while to conclude a turn, I would hope that would be considered as a necessary given, or evil, if you are so swayed against the thought of it....I would think the AI could perform competently in a turn based game of this scale, because it would cycle through it's moves as opposed to simultaneously making all of it's moves in real time, such as in HOI. I could be dead wrong in this so I'll throw that out there for anyone to agree or disagree with. [ January 09, 2003, 08:46 PM: Message edited by: J Wagner ]
  3. You can download the World in Flames map from here: http://www.marinacci.com/Chris/ For those of you who are interested enough, give it a view and comment on whether or not you would like to see a map of this scale used for SC. Whether just Europe, Pacific, or Global, you would have an idea of scale based on this version. For example, there are 67 hexes from New York to Brest whereby SC is 14. Now there is your Battle in the Atlantic! And be honest, if you check out North Africa, wouldn't you like to sink your teeth into that campaign? I don't know how WIF will eventually play out, but I would certainly enjoy a turn based game on this scale. Hubert?.. [ January 09, 2003, 07:44 PM: Message edited by: J Wagner ]
  4. Zapp, I was never good at economics, so, do you sacrifice building UK units for research? How are you able to afford the research otherwise? Even just a max of six is 1500.
  5. That's no surprise. I thought Boggs asskissing seemed terribly familiar, and nauseating, now I know why.
  6. SC has been out long enough now that all ideas for the game have been basically spent...sure there are an occasioanal new idea but let's face it, the dead horse has been beaten to such a pulp that it's now krazy glue....once Hubert announces the game design for SC2, then things will quicken apace...
  7. Well Jersey, SC will have a big heads up over HOI if it decides to go global because of one important aspect, it's turn based. The more I play HOI, the more annoyed I get at the real time aspect of it....
  8. If I recall, I don't think you can play HC on an XP machine.
  9. I always felt time was important in the defence of France, the objective being, the longer France remains in the game, the better for the allies...this is why I opt for the no-counterattack doctrine....Putting British forces in France helps but you better have a Dunkirk escape route ready for the inevitable fall...
  10. It would help if you provide some details on how you are losing....how long does it take you to defeat Poland?...the low countries?....France?...do you attack Russia first?....there are so many variables that it is hard to answer...give us some info on what you do, it would help...thanks
  11. I'm afraid that there will be no further patches for SC ET....Hubert mentioned that he will soon stert work on SC2 so no more patches for SC will be released....
  12. Are the surrounding units in cities? If so, then this will explain the higher replacement values...this has been debated quite a bit around here and it can be frustrating to pound a unit to 1 strength point just to see it bounce back to a 10...the only solace you have is that any experience the unit had will be lost so it becomes easier to knock out...keep an eye on the entrenchment levels and use your air fleets to knock the value down to zero, which will make your ground attacks more effective....
  13. My only reply to your comment Comrade, is that the boards I frequent such as OOTP, Championship Manager, Matrix, SAAP, Paradox, have all the redeeming qualities that you feel are here. This forum is not an island unto itself that it stands out any better or worse than the sites I have mentioned. However, the personal sniping that goes on around here far exceeds anything that I've seen at other forums...it happens, sure, but not at the pace that occurs here...I guess that's the benefit of quick replies on this board huh? 14. Keep in mind that there is a balance as to how much a unit costs, and how much it costs to replace lost strength points, based on the current MPP's that each country receives. France for example, usually acquires 115 MPPs per turn. If you suddenly increased the cost to reinforce units, France will be at a greater disadvantage than is now currently in the game. Germany too, may not build up the war machine needed for the invasion of Russia, if the costs for reinforcing the units that went to war in Poland, France, ect. is so high. If you counter this by increasing the initial MPPs as well as increasing the amount of MPP plunder, then you haven't accomplished anything but the aesthetic feel that you are paying more, when in fact you are not...I think for game balance and playability, the current system is just fine..
