  1. Sol....I keep getting my royal butt kicked in Legion...I have a bad habit of expanding too quickly and then finding myself attacked on all my borders...patience is a virtue in that game...thanks for the info on the patch...
  2. I think I'll play with myself for awhile....uh, maybe I should rephrase that....
  3. Hubert, this was mentioned in other threads, should we be downlaoding any of these fixes when we get the complete game, or will a separate patch cover this Direct X issue? [ August 01, 2002, 11:53 AM: Message edited by: J Wagner ]
  4. I'm curious, is it possible to add a Swedish fleet with the editor?..
  5. Turn your globe upside down and wallah!..you are now on the top...maybe you'll now get it sooner... By the way, who determined what is up and down when it comes to planet earth?...with the vastness of the universe it's a pretty arrogant conceit...pardon my ramblings, I'm busy setting snares for the mailman!...
  6. If you have Norton Utilities, run WinDoctor after SC is Uninstalled and it will remove any remaining references to SC, shortcuts ect.
  7. At least the Tiger tanks in Kelly's Heroes look like Tigers and aren't US Pattons dressed in gray!
  8. Oh No...this is a touchy subject around here....best let it lay........
  9. To think, next week the game should ship and The Lord of the Rings comes out on DVD. A good week to stay out of the heat!
  10. I have to work from 3pm to 6am today, so I'll be popping in at all hours today...God Bless the minimize button!
  11. I was asking similar questions in the Enable Italy thread...we'll need to get our hands on the full game in order to assess the AI offensive doctrine....
  12. I just hope that whatever that foolish clown posted does not incur a delay in issuing the final product!
  13. I guess what bothers me is that you suffer two attacks before you can launch one simply because you moved next to a unit. You have the SEC attack then a follow up attack during the AI turn. I will agree though that I may be studying the warts on one tree too closely rather than the beauty of the whole forest, so I'll put my quibble to rest....
  14. With FOW on, Surprise Enemy Contact can occur, but I wonder if it is implemented correctly? If you move a unit and an enemy unit appears next to it, surprise enemy contact occurs and the battle is then resolved. Shouldn't SEC only occur if you attempted to move a unit INTO an enemies hex? At 60 miles per hex, I don't think SEC should happen if you only move next to a unit. In the French Campaign with FOW on, SEC occurs when a German unit advances to the border hex located to the North West of the Ardennes. The French 1st, 9th and BEF are shown and then SEC combat is resolved. I don't think the German unit should suffer SEC, for stopping on the border, it should only have happened if I tried to advance into one of those hidden units hexes. Part of me thinks it's good, because it may increase the challenge, but it simply doesn't feel right to me....any thoughts? [ July 30, 2002, 08:44 AM: Message edited by: J Wagner ]
  15. Actually it is out in computer form as well, called Computer War in Europe which makes it very playable, though there is NO AI with it. We even have a group to discuss it. Marc</font>
  16. Thanks for the reply Scott...I guess what I'm hoping to see from this game is an innovative Allied AI strategy that does not necessarily mean it's a forgone conclusion that they will invade France...perhaps an invasion of Greece, Norway, Yugoslavia, of even Italy would be nice. In other words, I hope the AI will look at all offensive options and not be so keyed on France as it seemed to be in your game. It will make replaying the game too predictable if that's the case.
  17. The only problem I have seen in taking on France before settling the Low Countries is that their units ZOC tend to bog your units down as you try to flood the gap.
  18. I've seen Avalon Hill games on EBAY quite often...the prices aren't that bad considering many of the games are now out of print...
  19. If you are familiar with Talon Soft's Twelve O Clock High, it was similar to that, only 10 times better even for a board game...As mentioned the counter design was very well done of the individual aircraft...I think I'll do a bit of digging to see if I still have Luftwaffe. I do remember the first wargame I cut my teeth on, Avalon Hill's Kriegspiel. It would be considered a beer and pretzels game now but it sent me on my way...PanzerBlitz was my second game and I still recall the Kursk scenario as being my favorite...boy, we certainly are churning up some fond wargaming memories here aren't we...
  20. One of the problems with attacking units simply to gain experience is that inevitably you have to restore your strength points. Doing this will then reduce your experience...has anyone taken the time to see if the loss negates the original gain? It would be a shame if you are taking one step forward two steps back....perhaps a future option might provide you with a choice of purchasing "green" or "experienced" troops to replace losses. The "experienced" troops would be more expensive, but you would not have as great an experience loss to your army.
  21. Mentioning War at Sea brings back memories of Jutland....there was no board as you played on the floor and used special movement and range rulers to move the individual ships about and fire...if you wanted to know how the knees of a $50 hooker feel, play this game...
  22. The best SPI monster game, which I still own, is Wacht am Rhine. A battalion level Battle of the Bulge game. The map detail is outstanding!
  23. My God...How do you play the center of the board, are you tethered on a wire flying across the room?....
