  1. Each of us has their own opinion on what would make a game "more realistic" than SC. But I think what it comes down to is how much detail we would like to see in the game. Adding a feature here or there would not necessarily make it more "realistic" but perhaps make the gaming experience more involved. Think for a moment about Grigsby's Pacific War. For me, there is simply too much micro managment in the game to make it an enjoyable gaming experience. For others, PW is their cup of tea and I commend them for it. I have mentioned a few things I would like to see in future versions of SC such as weekly turns, variable regional weather conditions and a slightly larger map. I don't think these three requests hinder game play or make it more complex. Saying that it takes only 8 hours to complete a game does not matter to me. If the game takes longer to complete, so what? Most gamers are not clock watchers when it comes to gaming and as long as you have a save feature, you can take all the time you need. I no doubt will check out HOI when it comes out. There is always room for alternatives.
  2. Hearts of Iron is going to be similiar to their sister game Europa Universalis. While it can be considered real time, you'll be able to slow the game down to perform all of your actions then speed it up again. The game does play fast as you can speed up the time to cover months in a matter of minutes, and since EU games cover hundreds of years and is very playable, there wont be a problem converting it to WWII era. I am looking forward to it but I wonder how you will be able to manage it as easily as EU. In EU you start off in one geographical area and then expand. But in HOI you will be flitting about all over the map (Europe, Pacific ect). I wonder how you will be able to remember all you have to do even when the game is slowed to a snails pace....we'll just have to see......looking forward to it though... 3. Good luck in you endeavors to mod a WWI campaign but keep in mind of the following game which will hopefully will be out by years end..... http://www.adanaccommandstudies.com/IntroTrench.html perhaps this game will assuage your WWI sim needs; at least I hope it does mine........
  4. Perhaps it's the screen resolution but where is this battle taking place, TRON?....actually it reminds me of AH Tobruk with its individual unit counters.....
  5. I think the worse off topic and general forums are over at OOTP4. Talk about a bunch of arrogant political pundit wannabees....this forum is one of the better ones I've seen....thank goodness....
  6. In case you aren't aware, check this site out for the upcoming revamped version of the old "American Civil War" game..... http://www.adanaccommandstudies.com/IntroRFSTAIV.html
  7. Yup, and when the bunnies attacked, the now infamous order was given to the troops...RUN AWAY!....hmmmmm, perhaps the Holy Hand Grenade should be on the tech tree.... [ August 19, 2002, 12:33 PM: Message edited by: J Wagner ]
  8. Excellent job! There was a poster here whose wife thought he was attacking bunnies, which in fact were the cities viewed from afar. He can download this terrain set and avoid future slings and arrows!!!!
  9. Weather is abstractly represented by seasons and the number of turns per season. I have posted my desire to see consistant weekly turns with variable regional weather conditions, in some future incarnate of SC.
  10. Aren't there emulators around that allow you to play dos based games on newer versions of Windows? I wouldn't mind firing up the 2 Interplay Lord of the Rings games. [ August 18, 2002, 07:32 PM: Message edited by: J Wagner ]
  11. You know, I think I was one of the first to post about my displeasure about needing the cd for my laptop. But upon further consideration, I realized that had the original purchase required me to have the cd in the drive, I would not have given it any further thought. Afterall, it's not the only game where I have to do so... So I won't fret over it any longer now and maybe it's best if everyone else does as well. Let's just enjoy the game.... 12. All threads tend to wander a bit, that's the way it is. And as far as redundancy goes, many people simply don't bother looking beyond the first page of the forum. The only separated forum for SC that I would like to see is a Suggestions and Future Wish List forum. This way, all ideas can be shepherded into one area.
  13. IOLO, I don't have a clue what the beta is supposed to do. I have the map editor and some other files but I'm lost. I chalk it up to my own ignorance and not a knock on the game.
  14. I'm simply curious as to what caused this to occur in the first place? It wasn't an issue when the game was released. It also was not a problem when the first two patches were developed. So I wonder what happened between v.1.02 and 1.03 to cause the change? I know, bottom line, it's not my business, but I do wonder about it.
  15. Not a pc game yet.............. but comming very soon http://www.a-d-g.com.au/ Jev The Jut[/QB]
  16. People who wonder what the map should look like need to check out the WIF map. Now there is something you can sink your teeth in to. Too bad their isn't a viable pc game behind it....
  17. I avoid RTS games with a passion....my lack of patience and skill prevent me from enjoying the game...mind you, I'm not criticizing RTS games, I'm simply inept at them...turn based for me, except for EU because at least you can slow the game to a crawl... Sorry about the 2X post...don't know how I did that... [ August 17, 2002, 11:16 AM: Message edited by: J Wagner ]

  19. What's the big deal? Ignore his posts and move on. Let's not turn what is otherwise a very good forum into the drek that other forums have turned into.
  20. I have to be honest here, I wish, with the new patch, that it would not be necessary to have the cd in the drive in order to play the game. I understand the need, namely to reduce the abuse of passing the game around and avoiding all important additional sales. I was simply used to the fact that I could play the game on my notebook, without the need of carting around the disc. I may have even sparked interest in a sale or two when people stop to watch me as I play the game in Washington Square NYC. Too bad there wasn't an alternative that would achieve the same result.
  21. Same here, looking forward to it...they are also revamping ACW which I'll pick up... Camacie: Interested in a Strategic level Napoleonic Game? Check this out: http://www.matrixgames.com/Games/NapoleonicWars/features.asp Another game for my list...though a bit pricey [ August 15, 2002, 07:39 AM: Message edited by: J Wagner ]
  22. So the issues raised here begs the question; do you feel as if the game represents the true nature of German blitzkrieg tactics, especially from 39 to 41? Without movement after combat, exploitation movement, and a fairly liberal reinforcment rule, it does end up turning into a war of attrition and a grist mill.
  23. Check out the info from the link below for a potential WWI strategic game entitled TRENCH. I'll give it a whirl............ http://www.adanaccommandstudies.com/IntroTrench.html
  24. I think the general consensus in these threads, though not unanimous, is that the present turn system is not the best that could have been implemented. I'm hoping for consisistent weekly turns, with variable weather conditions, in future versions of SC.
  25. I'm finding that it's best to leave Vichy France alone...you end up having the US and Russia moving closer to declaring war.
