As a former MFC/CPO in the Mortar Pl in the British Army, I concur that the 81mm mortar does not produce much smoke when firing, however, as for the bang, it's loud enough when your firing rounds continuously, I can vouch for that!

I dunno about playing scenarios as a PBEM game. The two I have played so far were heavily weighed against me, not deliberately by my opponents, I assume, but they made the experience very difficult and not very enjoyable. I much prefer to play QB's in PBEM's!
