  1. Playing a PBEM with my long time opponent, Lou2000, I was moving a squad to a large house behind one of my trench positions that was coming under heavy attack. Lou had also sent a couple of squads through some adjacent woods to get to the same house. I made it first by a short head, but just as his units appeared at the rear of the house one of HIS arty shells dropped right in the middle of them!! Ok so it's nothing really funny, or I guess exceptional, but it brought a little smile to my face.
  2. No chance of this one being a long range duel. Myself and Apache are going hell for leather for the flags and if we are not careful we could be heading for a mighty head on smash in the middle! [ June 09, 2003, 06:58 AM: Message edited by: athkatla ]
  3. I'm sorry, but I am having email problems with my Microsoft Outlook, can you re-send to top_man68@yahoo.co.uk. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  4. Here we go, being a bit of an all round gamer, although CMBB is my top game, mainly PBEM's, here are some of the others I play while waiting for my opponents to send a turn:- Championship Manager 4 Empire Earth Age of Mythology Tropico 2 Stronghold Crusader Cossacks(Not very often) Sad, but true, I'm still a big kid at heart
  5. Apache, it must be me and you for the 2nd round, I think I saw something saying you was going on holiday, so when do you want to start our game?
  6. Hi guys, I thought I read somewhere that the 1.03 beta patch was only available in the US, and not available for us European gamers. Is that correct, or can we now use beta patch 1.03?
  7. Ok you southern softies, here is the draw you have been waiting for. My good friend Rex Bellator asked me to officiate knowing me to be of good northern stock! Do your best, or worse, and let battle commence!! Doc v Sneezy Happy v Bashful Snow White v Grumpy Dopey v Sleepy Good luck to you all!
  8. When I was in the British Army I only took part in Bayonet training twice, once during basic training and a few years later when doing my JNCO's cadre. Both times the training was the "run at the sack on some string and kill it" variety. Reading a book about the Falklands war it stated that bayonets were used in the night attacks by British soldiers there, but unlike in movies, one thrust of a bayonet into an enemys body certainly did not kill him, one account tells of repeated thrusts with the bayonet resulting in the bayonet breaking, and the enemy still alive and fighting. I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the book, but it was written by a soldier who fought in that war! [ March 12, 2003, 06:33 AM: Message edited by: athkatla ]
  9. Now now My Liege take it easy, trot back to your paddock, I put some nice clean hay down and filled your bucket with carrots
  10. Damn.double post!! [ March 10, 2003, 05:12 PM: Message edited by: athkatla ]
  11. Also, we are still getting "friendly fire" casualties now from the air. Remember the Gulf War, and that's even with all the hi tech a/c and communications we have now!
  12. Hmmm, I think I should cut down on the number of carrots I bring My Liege, he seems to be losing it!!
  13. Wesreidau continues to pick off my clankety thingies, I won't have any left soon, the rate he is going I think Plan B is called for
  14. Umm, I can't remember what turn we are on, all I know is that Wesreidau is making a point of targetting all my armour! Now call me silly, but I call that unfair, after all, first he destroyed all my beer, then he hit the house storing all the fresh rations, now he wants to hit all the replen vehicles. Don't he know my troops can't fight without beer and bratwurst!
  15. As an ex-squaddie who has been under direct fire several times, I can only give you my version although I wasn't panicked, but the first instinct it to hit the deck and keep down low. After that, find good cover and try to locate the enemy. This is probably not that relevant, as I said I wasn't panicked but then again, I wasn't totally calm
  16. Grrrrrrrrrr, I'm really going to have to teach this upstart Wesreidau a lesson!! Not only has he destroyed my beer wagon, he has now blasted the house where all the fresh rations were stored into the ionosphere!! Luckily my drunken troops were outside having a pee, so at least they survived. This man is fighting a dirty war!!
  17. Well in the Wargamer award alone, Hearts of Iron came second, Uncommon Valour came third, and all these other games got votes:- Others receiving votes: Airborne Assault, Austerlitz - Napoleon's Greatest Victory, Tac Ops 4, Squad Battles - Tour of Duty, Strategic Command, G.I. Combat, Panzer Campaigns 6 - Korsun Pocket, Age of Sail II - Privateer's Bounty, Armored Task Force, La Grande Armee at Austerlitz, Modern Campaigns 2 - Fulda Gap, Squad Battles - The Proud and the Few, Squad Battles - Eagle Strike, Panzer Campaigns 7 - Kursk, La Grande Armee 1806. Is that enough competition?
  18. Well, there we was, having a super little picnic, when.....BANG....my opponent deemed it was time the picnic was over and brewed up one of my clankety thingies, sending shrapnel all over the table cloths. One of my troops almost spilled his beer too!!! Oh well, now you done it, my guys peckers are up, and you're in for a fight! COME ON YOU GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENS!!
  19. This is more like a Eurovision Song Contest thread..............bah........TOSSERS!
  20. The crafty jock also invited me to a party where he had lots and lots of big scary Tigers, and the fog brought the visibility down to 80 metres! He then proceeded to blast all my AFV's to smithereens!! If I can find his wee spaniel, I'll have it spit roasted and served up with chips on my plate!
