MasterGoodale, I know you can't hurry genius, but have you got an ETA on your fiendish creation? Soddball's getting twitchy - I think the tension is starting to get to him. I'm sure when it arrives it will merit more than a GRR rating, but now I'm thinking we might be better playing a QB while you fine tune your scenario building-skills for general consumption by the gaming public? The die is cast. I will lead my Axis forces into battle against Soddball on a map designed by MG. I have no preferences, other than it is balanced, bursting with molten TNT chucking malevolence, and cunning as a fox that has just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University. Teddy -

That's a remarkably generous offer, MG. I have to admit I'm seriously intrigued to see what a man of your obviously special talents can come up with. I'm game if Soddball is. Chin chin, Teddy -

OK. Now I'm guessing you might need an email address? Will this be a random computer-type thingy, or a Soddball special ... where a handful of my green, pitchfork waving, Molotov cocktail-chucking heroes face a battalion of your evil elite sturmtigers, which are full to to the brim with bitter, molten TNT (insert frightfully angry red faces here)? Yours quizzically, Edward -
Mirrors for CDV patch?
Edward Windsor replied to Soddball's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
As far as I'm aware that's the first time my sausage fingers have worked faster than my grey matter and I've omitted the second, silent "d" from your moniker. Still, I do detect a cry from the heart. For such a bluff fellow you're a surprisingly sensitive soul. So I offer my sincerest apologies and a promise that I will be gentle with you if and when we meet on the battlefield. Stiff upper lip old boy, Edward -

Hurry along Sodball. I have a Christmas treat waiting for you. To get you in the festive spirit I've lined up Paul McCartney and a football. Simply march your chaps to the big X in the middle of the battlefield to enjoy the very first Teutonic Russian Party (I've marked it TRP for short). Teddy -

Patch link missing from CDVs site
Edward Windsor replied to Bry Barnard's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
All this begs the question: Assuming something's changed, was there something seriously wrong with the first version of the CDV patch and if we downloaded it, do we now need to get the "new" one? -

Unfortunately it's not even an option, unless you know a kind-hearted American player who will do it for you... Amen to that ... you're pushing against an open door as far as I'm concerned, Brother Quintus -

Anything to do with the mysterious reappearance of the SS runes?

Hello Sailor Try this link: Download Then click: Download starten @gamesweb.com I've just checked and it does the trick for me. As I understand it, the reason our patch is more than twice the size is that it contains textures that were omitted from the CDV version of the game. It could also have something to do with the fact that as far as I can tell it is a bumper three-in-one package, for the German, French and English versions of the game. Which is nice. Can someone please put me out of my misery - is there a dedicated CDV CMBB forum? Bottoms up, Teddy [ November 24, 2002, 03:44 PM: Message edited by: Edward Windsor ]

CMBO keeps trying to reinstall...
Edward Windsor replied to Edward Windsor's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Mercury, my good man, this would be a most excellent suggestion, but sadly I have three CDs (CMBO, CMBB and GPL) yet only a duo of drives. And that's before one indulges in any naughtiness ... like "backing up" my close chum's music collection Nice try, but I'm going to have to postpone your OBE for another year... -
Hi Brill, As far as I can tell you just need to download any CDV patch - when you double-click to install, it will ask you to select a language. However, I must say the instructions seem less than clear and I'm not particularly impressed by CDV's service so far - cut-down manual, no decent forum (unless I'm missing it and somebody can point me in the right direction), patch that is twice the size, no SS runes (hardly a showstopper but I'm starting to feel pissy), etc, etc. I would really appreciate it if when the next Combat Mission game appears we could be allowed to buy direct from Battlefront. It may cost a few quid more, but by jingo it would be worth it. Teddy

New grunt reporting to the battlefront
Edward Windsor replied to Richard Marchand's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Lumbergh, The Combat Mission series are the only games I give HD space to apart from GPL (not that I'm an arbiter of good taste). All joking apart, they're probably more alike than you think. The original product was ground-breaking, there was excellent support from the programmers with various patches and fixes, an enthusiastic and dedicated community built up, and the mods and add-ons are simply jaw-dropping (if anyone has an old copy of GPL kicking around, I'd recommend a trip to the GPLEA site). Plus I once thought that fitting a panzerfaust to my Cooper would improve my chances of winning a race... And I can tell you've never played it - not only is dialing in downforce settings and choosing tyre compounds strictly for wimps, it was an option that Jimmy Clark and Graham Hill never had in 1967. The rake of the car could be used to acheive a primitive aero effect (although this doesn't appear to be modelled in GPL) and the rubber was so hard it would last for several races. To bring this back on topic I would like to extend the warm, sweaty hand of friendship to Mr Marchand - if you want some illuminating discussions on tactics, generally well-meaning advice, heated debates on the merits of various tanks, or an advanced lesson in statistics, you've come to the right place. I can't pretend to understand half of it, but it's very entertaining anyway Eddie -

CDV Patch Download
Edward Windsor replied to KiloIndiaAlpha's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Evening. Same deal, so I just downloaded the version from the gamesweb.com link. It doesn't seem to matter which flag you click on (apart from the French, where I can see no mention of the patch) - they both lead to the same download page. I haven't applied it yet (I need to reinstall CMBB again first), but when I double-click on the installer it asks me which language I'd prefer. I'm therefore guessing (probably wrongly) that in the spirit of European unity it's a patch that doesn't recognise trivial little things like countries or borders. All this excitement is too much for me. I'm off to bed with Cocoa and Cookies. Teddy -
PATCH IS OUT! Battle front please advise.
Edward Windsor replied to Cpt Kernow's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Good evening fellas. Does anyone know if this is hunky dory for the UK CDV game, or is it German only? I notice some chaps asked earlier, but unless I missed it we don't seem to have a definitive answer. Ta ta for now, Teddy Boy -
CMBO keeps trying to reinstall...
Edward Windsor replied to Edward Windsor's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Just visited the CDV forums - they're not exactly "happening", are they? I couldn't find a specific messageboard for Combat Mission and I had to blow the cobwebs off my monitor after visiting the general one Thanks for the tip, Len. I don't want to disable autorun permanently, but I'll try holding down "shift" next time I stick in the CD. Toodle pip, Teddy Boy [ November 20, 2002, 01:37 PM: Message edited by: Edward Windsor ] -

B*gg*r. Looks like I'll have to learn to live with it. Thanks for the replies. Teddy Boy -
Every time I insert my CMBO disk (CDV version) it tries to reinstall the bloody game - despite the fact it's present and correct on my hard drive and I just want to play the damn thing. Please help me cut down on my cussing and tell me how to stop this *7^%$£@**!
