I think it was the episode after the "Bastogne" one, which makes it episode 7 . This episode is called "Breaking Point" if I'm not mistaking and shows the Easy company is the Ardennes Forrest being shelled throughout the episode. Those three burst really do some damage. As they do in CM, where I've been on the receiving end once. That caused the better part of a company of regs to either get killed or getting panicked. Mies

I really dig the little dirt spots on the truck and jeep windows. Looks a bit like my own car if I haven't bothered to wash it for a while Mies -

The Dutch navy uses HMS nowadays and I think they used that during WWII too. Michel -
German Losses East vs West Front
Mies replied to Rebus_Badger's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I can't agree more. I'f one doesn't know how this world was shaped it's hard to form an opinion on today's events. And I do not only mean the events during WWII, but also think of the Kolonies from a few centuries ago, for example. In Holland we have to learn things like that at the age of 10-12. Mind you, cramming dates into your head isn't fun but at least I became aware of the fact that the world didn't start turning the day I was born. If I had never been told about procedings in the past I probably wouldn't have investigated more. Now I'm trully fascinated by history and specially with WWII and I can form a sound opinion about things going on today. Mies -
I'm suprised he doesn't tells the world about the last big battle for Berlin in 1947, the a-bomb that went of in Norway in late 1944 and the Soviets defeating the German army in Switserland. Mies

how many of you are on broadband?
Mies replied to MrNoobie's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Cable, but is slow as an assault on Moscow in December. Mies -
Yep that is my strategy too. Covered by some supporting squads or vehicles, this seems to work out better that withdrawing. Mies

I was going to suggest posting in Dutch, but someone else won the originality bonus. That would make it a lot easier on yours truly. However I don't think the general standard is all that bad. Mies

Yep, I second that. Rather play a small or medium battle. Say up to 30+ turn and some 2 company's tops. I always find myself giving big group orders (in large battles that is) and regretting it after two turn when my forces get smashed by someone who took the time to plot his moves with more care. Mies

A Morning at the Zoo -- Any suggestions?
Mies replied to Ginzo's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
[spoilerS] * * * * * * * * * * * * I used the same approach and it worked fine for me too. Only made the mistake to send the reinforcements through the trees to the far right of the map where they couldn't do any damage and were slowly picked of. I could have made better use of them in the patch of trees on the left. I now only managed to score a draw, because the troops on the left were bogged down due to lack of ammo and I couldn't carry the attack through. Mies -
Problem with arty smoke between turns
Mies replied to buckshyesh's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Yes, it indeed is very frustrating when you order mortars or infantry guns to use smoke and after some 40 secs you have your men rush forward because you expect the smoke to be there. If your mortars or IG are happily firing at something else (no reason like self protection for that) then those poor grunts get slaughtered while running across open ground. Bummer..... Mies -
Reflections on "defense is too strong" type threads
Mies replied to John O'Reilly's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Isn’t it so that just as in real life it’s not always possible to win? I think that when you engage a well prepared enemy without cover, without sufficient support or without sufficient resources for example there is always a change on defeat. Come back the next day after having flattened the enemy position with arty or come back with armor support. That is what I would do if I was a real life commander. Therefore I agree with Cpt Kernow that CMBO was maybe to easy on the attacker.... Mies -
I order mine on the moon and even that was faster. I think someone somewhere is very happy with a free copy of CMBB Mies

I got smacked too on this one, with two of my 222's happily smoking before I even has a clue how it happened. Very depressing unfolding of events from there. I could barely keep my man alive, let alone launch anything that resembled an attack. Suffered a major defeat in the end. Mies

Hi I've got the exact same problem. My game also crashes during the orders phase. System specs: AMD Athlon 1.2GH 512MB NVidia Geforce2 MX 100/200 64MB Driver version 30.82 (Have not updated to the 40.*) If anyone can help it would be perfect. I'm not experiencing this every time I play, only occasionally. I probably don't have to say that it's a pain in the bu.t if the PC crashes after 15 min of painstaking planning. If this happens than only my screen locks up. I do hear the sounds and also my cursor moves. However I'm not able to get around this other than doing a hard reboot. Is there anything know about this? Mies

Ahh Dave..... If you want to un-install your soundcard drivers, or any drivers for that matter, go to: Configuration Panel -> system -> device manager. Navigate to the Sound, video and game controller section and double click on your sound card entry(s). In the tab that opens select drivers and then uninstall. The driver will be removed. Depending on the type of OS it could be slightly different, but this is the general idea. To quick in posting, stupid me Mies [ October 03, 2002, 05:54 AM: Message edited by: Mies ]

CDV and EU anti-rasicm legistlation
Mies replied to Tero's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I have to say that I don't know where this is comming from but I would say Western Europe is doing a good a job as possible in helping refugees and immigrants and trying to integrate them into Multicultural Society's. Saying otherwise means not knowing what one's talking about. To compair games with a big problem like immigration seems to me like comparing apples and pears. And yes I do want to have my copy of CM:BB with Waffen SS units, not to be a racist but to have the game as accurate as possible. Mies -
In Memoriam CMBO ( or the funniest moments in CMBO )
Mies replied to Stickel's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
While playing the third Panzer Maier scenario as the Germans against the AI, I took four Panzers IV around the right flank through a few abandoned villages. When they arrived at the other side of the map in the back of the main objective all of a sudden 5 Sherman’s arrived as reinforcements, right in the path of my advancing Panzers. Within 30 seconds all 5 Sherman’s were lit as candles. Off course this is not much of a sport, but nevertheless it's probably the turn I have seen the most times of all turns I ever played. Mies -

Have a walk through the dunes at the Dutch North Sea coast. I used to spend a lot of Saturdays climbing on old bunkers, which I know now were build as a part of the infamous "Atlantic Wall". It's interesting to see those bunkers still being in good shape. Mies
