  1. We still do that, especially if all the parking spaces near the coast are taken by German cars ! Mies
  2. I am proud of being Dutch and I'm not offended that there are no Dutch in CMBB (not one of the proudest moments in our history), although some scenarios (I remember Marxdorf here) make use of Dutch Waffen-SS soldiers. At least judging by some names and briefings. I do know something about the good 4 days (6/7 if you count the resistance in Zeeland) in which the Dutch army suffered dearly due to poor training and equipment. This however was not the fault of soldiers in the front lines. They did pretty well keeping the Germans (LSAH) away from the "Grebbeberg" and the "Afsluitdijk". And only 3 days ago there was the commemoration of the fact that regular army soldiers decimated the German Fallschirmjaeger that were dropped near The Hague to, amongst others, capture the Queen and the vital airports. I appreciate that the fore mentioned German units perhaps were not the crack units they were later on in the war, but they were, at that point in time better equipped and trained than the Dutch and therefore I think the Dutch soldiers deserve some credit for their actions. Finally I want to say that the capitulation only was signed after the Germans bombed Rotterdam and threatened to do the same to other large cities. The military situation was pretty bad then already, but there were plans to make a final stand at “Fortress Holland” by flooding parts of land for instance. The decision to surrender was made by general Winkelman who (and I think he was right) didn’t want to fight on and risk other cities to be bombed causing even more civilian casualties. Just some info on one of “small” countries at war in 1940. Mies
  3. Yes I liked reading that too. Keeps you awake during the day ! Thanks for that. Mies
  4. ...and you guys think you have a bad time. I lead my girlfriend to believe I’m seeing someone else so I can get a couple of evenings to myself to experience some combat simulation. Just joking there , just hope she doesn’t read this tread! Mies
  5. Nieuwveen, The Netherlands Second that whole heartedly  Mies [ April 17, 2003, 10:54 AM: Message edited by: Mies ]
  6. I read an article a couple of weeks back explaining where the word “tank” came from. It appears that during WWI British construction workers were told they were working on water tanks (strangely shaped I would think) to keep the manufacturing of the newly invented armoured vehicles as secret as possible. This term stuck with it which caused it to (nick-)name the things “tanks”. ...Don’t ask me whether this story is true or not and don’t ask me where the term “water tank” came from..... ! Mies
  7. This could be the proof that the Russians were working on their own range of "Vergeltungs Waffen", hehehe Mies
  8. Were those captured tanks on both sides effective? I mean did they actually knock out enemy tanks or were the more used for towing, spare parts (altough that's hard I would imagine seeing the difference in construction styles). Also was there enough ammo available to supply the former enemy tanks with? Espacially ammo for rare models would be hard to come by I would think. Mies
  9. Very nice, too bad I'm only a mod user ! Mies
  10. This could prove to turn out as a very interresting discussion when BFC visits the African Dessert in an upcoming game somewhere. Flat sand plains with only small hills on there should be the ideal place to drive a tank through.... but wait, even the Dessert Fox had some difficulties to keep his tank a drift. No tracks that fell of, no quicksand for bogging, only sand in the radiator, sand in the air filters, probably even sand in the fuel. Seeing pictures of operations in the east lead me to think that there was a lot of fine dust flying all over the place (in summer) that could clog a big piece of machinery easily. Just a thought Mies
  11. I just figured out ( ) that if you order your downloaded cmmos mods by date in your windows explorer for example it's easy to only load the newest downloaded. That I didn't think of that sooner pfff... Mies
  12. I just want WWII battles and a 4 Gig DVD packed with as much hi-detail, hi-res models as one can fit on such a disk. Altough creating all those goodies would involve a hellofalotta work ! Mies
  13. Again a CMMOS question. Is there a way to load all the mods and all the rulesets at once? I have already divided my CMMOS download directory into several sub dirs for Russian and German mods, vehicle, terrain, building and what not mods but I'm still getting confused as to which mods are already loaded and which are not. I figure that if I could load them all at once I'll have my new downloads installed immediately..... right? Mies
  14. Far better then : "The dog ate my harddrive!", hehe Mies
  15. What do you guys think is the best strategy to get bogged vehicles going again. I usually cancel all movement orders given and order it to reverse a very short distance. After that I face up to the situation and try to get past the same spot again. This because I'm a believer of "a shell never lands in a crater created by another shell, so my vehicle won't bog at exactely the same spot. Mies
  16. I think I have told this story before, but it's a good one so here goes. ***Possible Spoiler*** * * * * * I was playing one of the Panzer Maier scenario's for CMBO against the AI a while ago. I made this beautifull flanking movement with IIRC 3 Panzer IV's. While almost in the back of the "enemy" all of a sudden my 3 Panzers are faced with re-inforcements in the form of some 5 Shermans. I could take them flank on because they were dropped in the middle of my advance path. Although it did take the fun out of that particular battle, it was fun to see those 5 Shermans go up in flames within 1 turn. Mies
  17. I did destroy 6 Shermans in a CMBO game once. That took me some 20 secs because the AI trew them as reinforcements in front of 2 veteran panzer IV crew's who were making an encirclement move. 6 in 20 sec makes 36 in 2 turns devided by 2 makes it 18 for each crew in 2 turns and 9 for each crew in 1 turn. I just put 9 numbers in 1 sentence, now that must be a record or somefink ! Mies
  18. Isn't that the particle theory? If BF would incorporate that into the game the enemy could pop up everywhere. An Uber sewer feature would do that too by the way. Mies
  19. I would have loved to see the T-34 reduce that mini van to rubble as they to with my dug in Volkssturm soldiers in CMBB. Nice pics there! Mies
  20. Isn't the position of friendly vehicles just as relative as a patch of woods with only a couple of trees and 12 men squads where you only see 3. When I fire through my own vehicles I just imagine that it flies just past it. The whole thing is abstracted, am I right? Mies
  21. Call in an arty strike on your own positions ! Mies
  22. I had a renewed inside into the working of the game here. I should just have given my scouts a short cover arc without hiding them. It's hard to spot anything with your face burried in the dirt. Stupid little me didn't realize that when writing the above ! Mies
