  1. Nice pic! Don't remember seeing the park bench in the scenario, though.
  2. Sorry dude, I was aiming at Chappie and JeffSmith, y'all just stepped in the way.
  3. Now then, don't be unnecessarily obfuscatorial. My interpretation of the rumblings emanating from the oracle's cave are: end of this year to beginning of next, with an exact delivery date of 'when it's done'.
  4. Jason, to return to the topic of CM-sized attritionist advances, it strikes me that the majority of CM scenarios are a bit on the short side for the tactics you recommend. I may be too gentle with my men, but in infantry v infantry advances, I find that 10min is a minimum for getting up close and personal. That's fine if he only has one line of defense, but of course he has two if not three in most cases, and there is usually some form of HE slowing you down at some point. I am not suggesting that your approach is unworkable, just that the standard 25-30 turn scenario can leave you with no flags and half of his defenders still picking their noses. One concern is that if you try to parlay a big force advantage into quicker movement (ie, he has made three thin lines, so you try to crunch the first one quickly with your >3:1 odds), you make yourself more vulnerable to nasty surprises. For example, if you start a slow and steady advance over the open ground and find less incoming than expected, you start to up the pace. Maybe you keep half of your guys moving at once instead of a quarter. Then on any given turn he can decide to open up with the rest of his force that weren't at the back of the map after all, chewing up uncomfortably many of your previously relaxed movers. The main question is, can you safely convert firepower into speed across open terrain? I find it too risky and usually opt for slow and steady (thus acheiving the outstanding result of 4 draws from 5 matches in ROWV!). Grim
  5. I agree. All that grunting and sweating - what a waste of time. CMAK, on the other hand, is an outstanding way to spend the evening.
  6. Well, I'm waiting for you. Only two turns to go, but that's two too many for me.
  7. I just don't know what all you guys are whining about. There's a perfectly good bridge there. Now if the designer had made it foggy and neglected to tell you that the bridge was blown at the far end, then you might have something to complain about. IMHO St Edouard's is far more perverse. Who in their right mind would attack a fortress on a night when you can't see your enemies until you step on them?
  8. Turn and history sent to Ded. Ded, if you're easily shocked, I recommend Prozac before opening these scenarios. Appalling carnage is the norm.
  9. GaJ, is there a reason mine is the only setup you haven't sent out? Are the Highlanders so hellish? Alkiviadis, have you got a Triangle turn for me? Not that I'm in a hurry or anything. Vadr is happily bombing the merry hell out of me, so I should be glad your games are quiet.
  10. Is it permitted that the morituri should know the designers of these outstanding scenarios? Hmm let me see, night AND fog. Any bets on jwxspoon?
  11. Hi Mom! Or should I say 喂木乃伊
  12. Nobody really believes Cpl Carrot did this randomly do they? He clearly employed his well developed sense of humour instead, deliberately incensing impending victims like GreenAsJade by having them wiped out early by members of their own family....
  13. On the issue of Marder vs Archer, I totally accept CombinedArms advice of how they are best used, and that the 17lb is a better gun. The advice, of course, stands for any AT weapon, and if followed, will lead to good success (particularly with dug-in guns!). The problem is that most of the time you simply don't/can't do all those things, especially with Archers. If you have an AT gun, you usually are on defense, and can pick a nice spot for it. If nothing comes its way, bad luck. With a TD, though, you start with it in the nice spot, then you realise that you're getting hammered elsewhere, so you zoom over to help out. He sees you coming, your driver panicks as soon as he sees armour, and voila, another Archer bites the dust. No doubt, used 'properly', they're excellent. What I like (and I guess RL tankers like), are vehicles that still do the business when the SNAFU bites.
  14. Martyr, the rotate refers to the driver (who is doing the rotating!). I'm with Elmar on this one. They suck. Go for a regular 17lb AT gun anyday. I understand why Archers were made, and how TDs are supposed to work, but at least in CM, they are too visible, poorly maneuverable (back to manual hull-down or shoot&scoot!) and essentially unarmoured.
  15. Well, the weekend is over in this part of the world, so I'd say no Just to frustrate those refresh monkeys.
  16. Oi GaJ - what are you doing on the board? Aren't you supposed to be moving house! Or sending me a turn! S
  17. I think the point here was that if you do a save the plane seems to be getting a free reload of bombs that it oughtn't. It would be unfortunate if that is the case - everyone in the know gets a free bombing run (more than one if you keep resaving?)
  18. I'm with Dschugaschwili on this one, so my PzIVs prefer to go hull up in a shootout. Having said that, getting the first hit is usually crucial, so if you are at any sort of range you may do well to sneak out of defilade and get a shot or two off before he spots you rather than zoom onto the ridge and blast away! Note that the tests CombinedArms ran suggest that at 500m it doesn't matter whether you're hull down or not, as you tend to get hull penetrations from vanilla Shermans, but even here you were no worse off going hull up.
  19. I guess I might as well explain before this gets any lewder (not a Canadianism for noisier, in this case, though the two are usually interchangeable). GaJ had a Lynx that came under fire, panicked and got plugged. He attributed this to fear of a puny Stuart, but he probably now realises that it was in fact an AT gun about to put nasty dents in his fenders that caused the panic. And took out the next tank to show up
  20. Just in case anyone was wondering - this program is quite superb. Not only does it take care of all that 'fire up the program, find the attachment, enter the password' nonsense, it also doubles your email game speed (and for my money, enjoyment). You just double click on the attachment in your mail program, and voila, two turns of CM goodness await. Everyone should try this.
  21. I've seen this happen a couple of times and it has always been when one of my teams is about to be annihilated and nobody else can see them. The game is just pointing out that that team is no longer reporting its position
  22. Just a guess, but wouldn't it be SOP to disable tanks when abandoning? Even if the shrapnel didn't cut a hydraulic line, the crew could certainly do it themselves and that would seem a more plausible explanation of why the droop is so common.
  23. Yup, your mods only affect the way your game looks, not how it behaves or how anyone else's will react to it, so mod to your heart's content. There are no cheat mods. Please don't ask about Peng. Suffice it to say that the thread(s) has been running for about two years and never a civil word spoken. Except by accident. Remember, there may be no OSX version, but at least we don't have to wait a year after the Windows release for someone to port it to Mac! Enjoy
  24. Umm, I think we've all been through this a couple of times now. CDV is German, and they need to obey German restrictions, however distasteful, even when selling into France. You, however, are a free spirit, and can apply any one of the mods/hacks that will doubtless have appeared before you got your copy, and all will be well with the world. Or if this is too hard, ask any helpful American to post you a copy. There is no problem. The world is not perfect, but with CMBB on the way, who cares?
