  1. Does anyone here think that engineers in CMBB should get a ' demolish' order? It would ge good for clearing small buildings in a hurry, and you wouldnt have to use arty\DF to destroy bridges. Maybe it would only be an available order when in proximity of bridges\landmines\whatever, so as to avoid abuse of the satchel charges. It would suffice if thier logic was improved, just have an engineer squad area target a bridge or obsticle and they would take care of it. Or is that asking too much?
  2. I will have to pick up that Zaloga book, it seems like a good source. Thank you for taking the time JAK and Bullethead(again!) I now have a firmer grasp on the whole TO&E of the Red and German tank divisions. The sheer scale of armoured warfare is impressive, now I can understand the epic scale of battles like Kursk, Moscow, and so on... Last night I checked around to see what info there was on Soviet tanks, you've probably already seen this stuff, but just in case: T-60s in action General run down of Red tanks Soviet TO&Es, pics, general info. {Damn BBS!!} [ March 03, 2002, 06:22 PM: Message edited by: The ol one eye. ]
  3. Wow, thanks Bullethead, excellent post, I never expected such a detailed answer. It must of been a mess reorganizing such things in the middle of such chaotic warfare. How much red tape it must have taken to pull that off! I was also curious about the recon TO&Es, I'll check around and see what I can find, if this post drums up any more intrest, I'll post what I can find. Thanks again Bullethead, good stuff.
  4. I wanted to get an idea of how tank formations are configured, specificly Soviet and German WW2 era. I've just started to really get into WW2\military history, so Im a little sketchy on how many tanks were in a platoon, company, battallion. Just from what I've gathered from reading around here (so these numbers are ballpark), a platoon has 1 command tank, and anywhere from 4-7(?) regular tanks. So a company would be 15- 21 tanks strong, a battalion 45-60somthing. I realize that force attrition due to combat losses, technical\logistical problems affected Soviets and Germans drasticly, but what were the formations sizes supposed to be. Also, what do you all think the command radius of a no-radio equipped tank should be, 150 meters? Im trying to be as patient as I can for CMBB, but I want to learn everything I can about the East Front. [ March 03, 2002, 01:06 AM: Message edited by: The ol one eye. ]
  5. One thing I try to do is unhide and open up with all my ATGs\SPGs at once. This can really screw with the TacAI, messing up the target priorities, it's always entertaining to see an M4 swivel its turret back and forth deciding where to shoot. This takes a good setup, terrain, and luck though. Its a matter of having your opponents armour come into the LOS of all your guns at once, each gun having a good chance to hit and penetrate. Usually I have to wait for armour to get in pretty close, then open up with everything I've got. Confuse, blind, destroy.
  6. *cough* *cough* *cough* *cough* HeHeHeh...Woah man, thas' like some heavy *BUMP*
  7. Maybe one way you could have damaged tanks is have each tank texture BMP have a damaged alternitive, one texture for every 'area' i.e. front upper hull, side turret, front turret, or for Micheal, rear penetration. When a tank is hit in a particular area, it swaps the regular BMP for a damaged one. Think of how fun modding THAT would be. You could have a neat little hole, or if you prefer, a gaping tear in the armour.
  8. So Im kicking these Tommys out of some small city in France, cutting them up and routing them good. Ive taken the main VL, and still have 95% of my men and three(!) Hummels. All of the sudden, one SP gun explodes! A ballsy little tommy cooker sniped it from the flank, but I still have two Hummels and infantry, most armed with 'fausts. I counter-flank the Sherm with the two Hummels, and have a faust- heavy platoon advance twords it under cover of heavy buildings. The Hummels hunt around the buildings, both emerging at the same time to blow the little bugger away; FIRE! BOOM! BOOM! I stare in disbelief. Both Hummels ( which, BTW, both had an 80% chance of hitting the lil ****e from opposite flanks ) commited suicide by firing thier cannons point blank into the corner of a building they had just snuck around. One building happened to be full of my brave little faust weilding SS, they didnt like it much. In fact, one platoon closest to the blast panicked and ran out to the street in front of the M4(actually 1) and was eliminated completely. The Sherman proceeds to shoot, burn and generaly dismember my once fine company. This leads me to ask weather the obsticle detection and tank logic will be improved in 'BB. This could be applied to traffic jams too. When your stuck using muddy roads in the Ukraine and you just want your men and vehicles to do the logical thing. I've spent 20 minutes giving the most minute orders for vehicles to get down a road and then have it turn into a gigantic clusterf*ck 13 seconds in. Well, sometimes, sh!t happens.....
  9. Whats on the mod & utility CD, any modders we know?
  10. Anybody seen what the box looks like? Any chance you could post a shot of it? Im very curious to see how BTS packaged it.
  11. I had the exact same problem with my VooDoo5. Get the newest drivers, then go to your 3DFX Manager and select single chip only, this clears all problems. For me anyways. Hope that helps, and welcome to The Game.
  12. Tom, the Ardennes look awsome! I just wish I could dowmload it. I go to the site (which is well done BTW), hit mods and go to the Ardennes tab, the window goes blank except for a little WinZip icon, which doesnt respond to my desparate clicking. Is the site OK, or is it pilot error? Thanks!
  13. OK,Ok, I know, but what a blast! { chuckles at clever pun } { realizes its not funny }
  14. Yeah, props to Dan, I love the stock graphics as is, and it will be a challenge to improve upon them. * Smacks head* I said the word 'props' *smacks head again*
  15. More screenshot goodness and info here: MacGamer Looks like she's gonna be a beut!
  16. The T-34 shot is my new desktop wallpaper. Does that make me a geek? Do I need proffesional help? Doodads REALLY improve the graphics, excellent job guys.
  17. Those T-34s slipping through the wheat are stunning! LONG LIVE COMBAT MISSION!
  18. IronChef4, are you now, or have you ever been, a relative, aquantance, lover, ect of IronChiefSake? Just curious, because I notice some strange similarities between the two. Oh yeah, I play, D/L mods or read the board at least once a day. LONG LIVE COMBAT MISSION [ February 28, 2002, 01:17 AM: Message edited by: The ol one eye. ]
  19. I thought the funnelator principle could be used by enterprising troops needing to distribute grenades further than an arm could, but without the inconvenience of a mortar tube. I think it could work. Anyone have a live grenade I could borrow? Oh yeah, *ahem* where did the name 'grenade' come from in the first place? Who thought the damned things up?
  20. Dumb as a box of rocks is kind of a family joke for them, everyone says it, so I dont think he'll be offended, besides he would be the first to admit the task maybe beyond his understanding of computers. Hopefully he will prove me wrong, and there will be a setup in my inbox. Watch, Ill bet he pummels me too. He was in Vietnam, so he totally understands the tactical level ideas allready. I think Ill send him a setup anyways, I wanted to let him initiate when he's ready, but he can send it back when he is ready. P.S. Andy, at least I didnt say ' bag of hammers right?'
  21. When I was a kid, we would make a device called a 'funnelator' to launch water balloons at our opponents ( The Innocent and Unexpecting ) at ranges up to 150 yards or so. All you need is about 6 feet of heavy surgical tubing and a funnel (hence funnel-ator) have your cohorts grab each end of tube, while the third loads pulls and fires the ballon, like a giant sling shot. It is simple, cheap, accurate and effective to throw a FULL ballon a good distance. Why couldnt you just substitute a H2O balloon with a Mills bomb or any other grenade?
  22. Thanks for all the info and suggestions guys! Yeah, this guy uses AOL he has XP, but I do not. That remote assistance thing sounds cool, but I have millenium, after seeing XP in action I dont think I want to switch quite yet, Ill wait for it to be fixed up. Besides, it seems, from my limited experiance with it, to limit access to the nuts and bolts, and it looks too cartooney. Ill look up the FAQ and send him a link to the One-Click ect. I've sent him links to this forum and all the major sites, getting him as hooked as I am. To play C.M. and not check out the forums is like not having candles on your Bday cake, the community is ( well, mostly ) intelligent and knowledgable. I've learned a ton of good stuff, not just CM goodness, but alot of historical background, and the always funny Peng . Thanks again.
