  1. cool, that will help! I would love to just show him, but he lives about 290 miles away.
  2. Im getting my girlfriends Father into CM, he went nuts over it when I brought it to him, I singlehandedly converted a Starcraft player into a die-hard CM fan. He asked me to order the game for him which I did about 20 minutes after he called his first arty strike. Anyways, he's not the most computer literate( well niether am I) guy, but I really want to challenge him to a PBEM, I think it would be great to play him a game, teach him some stuff. My question is, how do I explain to the guy how to use things like WinZip, how to add attachments and other basic PBEM manners? Now before you say 'Well duh, read the manual', I have to reiterate that this guy is as dumb as a box of rocks as far as anything techy goes. I could write him a huge Email on how-to, but I probably couldnt make it any clearer. Is there any guide, site or advice you can muster? Oh, Andy if you happen to read this, I did'nt mean it when I said as dumb as a box of rocks. Thanks! [ February 27, 2002, 01:59 AM: Message edited by: The ol one eye. ]
  3. I havent laughed like that for a long time, Im just glad it isnt me in those pics!! Anyone know how many forums is this thing on? Will STIX ever surface to face the wrath? Poor Bastard! Happy Bday man!
  4. SAHWEEEET!! They DO look kinda like a cannabis of some sort, but thats cool with me!
  5. Thanks for the replies. I meant Bmp's, like the graphic files, not the BMPs like troop transporters. Heehee, that was funny tho. So how 'bout it Moon\BTS, what about separate graphics for command tanks?
  6. Russian TCs must've had balls of steel to stick themselves out into the wind like that. Im going to be especially bummed when I lose my first Ruski TC. BTW, does anyone have a good glossary of Russian WWII military terms or nicknames? Did they use terms comparable to 'G.I.' or 'Dogface'? Any good Russian slang for Germans or specific enemy units? That is the best stuff.
  7. Since Russian tank platoons will rely heavily on a command tank, what do you think is the likely hood of BTS giving command tanks different BMPs? I've read that most command tanks had a 'K' painted on for 'Komandirsky'. I think it would be very cool( and easy?) to have the Komandirsky tanks look different, that way you could see it in a glance, and not do that gamey 'click select' thing to see if its in command radius. At least Im guessing thats how it will work. [ February 20, 2002, 02:19 AM: Message edited by: The ol one eye. ]
  8. The Nebelwerfers in CM sound more like a 747 at 20,000 feet than the gut-rupturing shriek they must've sounded like, any good sound mods for them? Thanks!
  9. Yeah, what Steve said.... Anyways, back to the question. I always thought that a soldiers opinion of the enemy's weapon's was a somewhat telling thing, biased as it may be. I've heard that the Germans were often scared $hitless of the .50 cal and I imagine that means they were also repectfull of the Soviet HMG. Why did'nt the Germans also develop a 'heavier' MG, one that could repay the Allies for countless HTs and soiled underwear? What is a good source\website\book that goes into soldiers from each side's opinions of eachother, then and now? Sorry for all the questions, but as CMBB gets closer to reality, I want to know more and more and more....
  10. WOW! This whole thing has piqued my curiosity about moddeling, I used to build airplanes when I was a kid, but then puberty hit. Is there a list of vehicles that still need doing, I might just pick up one for kicks, and to help out BTS of course! Thank you all, CMBB is going to be puuuuurdy.
  11. OK, so the rough impression Im getting is that we can expect T-34s to perform about the same as a vanilla sherman against German heavies? Does anyone think , at least with break-down-prone AFVs like the T34, that a random 'break down' could happen, like a bog, but mechanical? Dont jump down my throat if this is a dumb question, Im just trying to get a feel for this whole thing.
  12. Thanks for the run down John, its much appreciated. I remembered seeing those hefty 'Dash-Ks' on TC positions, they looked pretty mean. I cant wait to use them! About the tanks, I meant that the Germans and Allies had respect for the design of the T-34. There is, however, no doubt that the lack of reliability and radios were serious drawbacks. Do you think that the wheeled MGs will take an additional speed penalty? I imagine( again I have no idea) that it would be easier to carry the MMGs and HMGs in most situations. The thought of pushing one through mud or through rubble makes my back hurt. Then again, carying does too. Also, should the DP be handled like the German LMG, organic in squads and also availible by itself? Thanks for the good link too BooBoo, Ive got to brush up on all my Soviet equipment in anticipation of CMBB. {Edited cause Im 'tarded} [ February 11, 2002, 09:13 PM: Message edited by: The ol one eye. ]
  13. I admit I know absolutely nothing about Russian forces in WW2. I know thier tanks were second to none (after 1941) and their commanders were harsh and swift with capitol punishment. I was very curios, especially with the advent of cover arc( ) of what Russian MGs were like? Do they have a comparable LMG, MMG and HMG? Anything like the ol Ma Deuce to give the kraut halftracks a scare? What was thier MG doctrine in general, and how did it develop throughout the war? Were Russki MGs respected or laughed at by the Germans? Any info would be most welcome, Im sure there is someone out there who has this info and would like to start a disscusion about it. Thanks in advance!
  14. Alpha battle! Alpha battle! Alpha battle!! Pleeeease BTS!?
  15. My Stuarts do the same thing, wierd. Pretty wheat, Id love to use it!
  16. 1) How do I disable the start-up movie permanetly? My PC doesnt seem to like it much, it constantly freezes up when I start up. 2)What is the BMP for the 'filler' space between the map edges and the sky BMPs? I seem to have the BTS original texture.( aaaaa my eyes!) 3) OK I geuss I only had two questions....
  17. Have you ever thought of writing Grog-Porn for a living? "Ivan burst out of his T-34's hard metal turret, heady from the adreniline rush of just laying waste to an entire platoon of young Volkstrum. His heart pounding, face flush with excitement, he looked deeply into his loader Antonov's eyes. They knew the intense moments they had shared, cramped in that hot tank turret, would last an eternity." Sorry, couldnt help it. I cant wait for CMBB.
  18. OK, Im looking for a few good Mods. Here what I need, everything else is satisfactory. Badger Archer( why? I dont know) Cromwell Challenger Chaffee Regular Brit Uniforms 40 & 90mm AA guns Ive found a couple mods for the Chaffee, but I was looking for some HI-Res versions of the above. Any good recomendations? Thanks in advance [ February 04, 2002, 06:19 PM: Message edited by: The ol one eye. ]
  19. I thought of the gunners view idea too, it would be cool to see the *actual view* of a selected unit, not above and behind like it is now. It would add even more to the immersion factor. Just for the record, I intended this to be about CM2, The Rewrite, there are already plenty of CMBB threads. I love this game.
  20. Yep, works wonders, thank you. (one more)
  21. I think it would be cool of BTS to 'open up' the code on CMBO, so you can design your own 3D models and give them whatever properties you wish. The amount of amazing games that could be made. It wouldnt just be WWII any way you like it, it could be D&D tactical battles! Design castles, knights, whatever crazy thing. Sci-Fi, fantasy, hell, even robotech-style games could be made. Imagine all the ideas of RTS( I mean the *good* ones ) with the tactical GOODNESS that is CMBO. It could really be huge. My poor little modem would burn up D\L all the newest games. You think searching for mods is cool, what if there were a bunch of full conversions to learn and master? Imagination and time is all someone would need. Look at all the crazy stuff for the ol rusty HL engine. I love this game, if they did every theater of war over and over, I would buy them all. Im sure BTS has a dozen good reasons to not release the engine, but this would blow open the market, when people finally see they've been led astray, things will change. I do not by any means expect it to happen, but what about 10 years from now?
  22. Man, those model shops must be diggin this! This game is gonna be the best, thanks guys. ( Eggs them on and bumps)
