1. and another thing, how many guns does a 14" FO control? Is it the whole ship(I'm thinking the 14inchers are coming from battleships) (9 guns I think) or just a single turret of it(3 I think,)? I was also wondering what exactly were the capital ships used to bombard normandy? I only rememeber the Arkansas wich has 12" guns on 6 2-gun turrets, but I'll still check my references later.
quote:
Be warned, 14 inch arty will NOT destroy concrete pillboxe

not if you got 5 FO's with full ammo firing at it made a test map once, the pillboxes either catch fire or get abandoned after 2mins bombardment from 1-2 FO's, KT's and panthers abandon, while Stugs,Stuh's and markIV's get KO'ed or abandoned, and the rest of the thin skinned vehicles get KOed or get brewed up.Infantry and field guns?dont ask Good Day guys
2. Is there any good scenario out there which has 14" artillery in it? ...just wondering=)
3. oh, thanks then. And sorry, guess should have done a search first. ,hehe, oops.=)
4. I was just wondering, why crews couldn't man their weapons (like AT-guns or tanks) again after abandoning them. Like maybe after getting into contact with an hq.like the HQ goes, "man that gun for goodness sake, the enemy tanks are full broadside to it and no enemy infantry has a clear shot at it!move it!..." or why cant crews abandon mg's? I mean they can no longer move after getting 3,4 casualties and are just waiting there for the enemy to overrun them. just some thoughts
5. 2 panthers through the top with 75mm or 105mm from spotters, same turn. what luck!!!=)
6. just look if theres something that looks like rocks strung from one bank to the other. that's an area you can for. I think It's called a ford or a fjord, just dont really know what that tile's name is.=)
7. VT: Variable Time. The shells explode a few feet or maybe a few tens of feet from the gound. That causes more casualties as the shrapnel spread wider and the airburst lessens cover as, well, theres not much really to cover grunts on the fields from the top (except roofs). Haven't found them of much use against tanks though. [ 12-11-2001: Message edited by: l3w53r ]

8. great reserves.I usually mount them on HT's or tanks or APC's. Great for breaking the main offense of the enemy or punching and holding open holes in the enemy line. The FT's are great or making sure the enemy won't or half the time-cant use certain area of the map, once routed half a company in woods with them.
9. I'd barrel straight down that road until the sherman bumps the KT, I think a 75 can kill it from point blank. plus (I think) the tiger will go forward a bit more to be able to shoot something 5 meters from the gun's base. works with stuarts anyway, well at about half of the time immobilizing it or damaging the gun.even killed a KT from a weak point at the front, maybe the gun was aimed at a hatch or something =) [ 12-05-2001: Message edited by: l3w53r ]

10.
quote:
But I've got one small question: how do you manage to ensure your tanks are hull-down?

The "hunt" command usually does this for me.

12. how'd you transfer that thing into a *.rmf/ *.map file? just curious
13. 1.nothing beats the Jeep MG, I have at least one in every game. 2.then there's the AVRE, can paralyze any moving metal it sees. 3.Jagdtiger, if possible. Dunno, just great for scaring my enemies.Just for fun. 4.Chaffee, small, relatively cheap, nice gun. 5.RAM Kangaroo, good armor, relatively low, has an MG 6.Jumbo's, roll up a hill and watch
14. A few men and a a kubalwagen. (I was supposed to say "2 men and a kubalwagen" but I don't know how many men there is to a püppchen)
15. Just a few options: (1)Hide (2)retreat (3)cease-fire (4)surrender (5)regroup and swarm the tanks, one at a time(I think that oughta scare the crew, once made a KT crew abandon after being surrounded by a company or a platoon[i forgot], but I yhink my 240mm spotter had something to do with it. and (6) write to general eisenhower, president truman or whoever that one of your troops just had all his 3 brothers killed and his the only son left to his poor mother and hope the rescue team arrives on time. oh yeah, maybe you could spread a rumor around that theres a bank in the your battle area and that it contains a lot of gold bars, and maybe, just maybe, you'd get reinforcements forgive me, Idont know what I'm typing, I'm sleepy =)
16. please forgive my consytant...umm...err...forgot the word, but please do forgive me for bringing this up again, but how will airpower in CMBB look like? I've read some more and found that airpower directly took part in battles in the Eastern Front, killing tanks that were commited or short of being commited; in contrast to the Western Front aircraft that mostly only affected the logistics of the Germans, bombing supply trucks and armour that was there just to replace/reinforce, rather than having a specific mission. I got one here: http://www.thehistorynet.com/worldwarii/articles/1998/0298_side.htm Dunno, just thought I'd bring it up again as the nice folks at BTS are replying to the posts. and another off-topic question, how big will the battles be? I mean will the hundred (thousand) AFV battle on a certain plain (the name escapes me) be represented on the whole in a single battle or just portions of it?ü
17. now whats that thing at the end of the 37mm pak 35/36?(I think) [ 11-12-2001: Message edited by: l3w53r ]

18. I couldnt find anything bout it anywhere.=)
19. yeah...played that one too. only the two maus's survived the scenario though. I think it's cool, but I also think they could also spend the effort modelling something else(umm...sturmoviks?hehe) I've read there were two prototypes built, and operable, one having both 128 and 75 mm,the other having a dummy 128 and a real 75. Both of 'em got broken and was overrun by russians though. And yeah, they assembled another one from 9 other Maus's, it's in Moscow.
20. 1.smoke the afv's and move the zooks in. 2.just put the shrecks within about a 150 meters of the target(I forgot the max range), the guys can knock out most allied tanks from anywhere. 3. use sharpshooters to shock the crew. 4. pullback your troops except a zook and wait for the AFV's to run after your main body

5.56 or 7.62?

Hello, sory for(1)butting in,and (2)replying to a two-month-old topic. Ok...(1)I just thought that killing power are just for games like counter-strike.Thing is, I dont think you have to kill, or even physically wound the enemy at all. You'll just have to scare the crap out of him. (2)Then, my father tells me of an issue with the 5.56, he says the bullets get deflected in tall blades of grass(the type found in tropical countries). (3)also, I think combatants would not be really exposed, they'd be taking cover right? and i think having better penetration would mean something, even if it's just a couple of milimeters better. (4)And even though the 5.56 can be heard less, I think the cracking sound of a 7.62 would be better for shaking enemies up.plus concealment is a bit harder these days, with a lot of gadgets sprouting up. (5)and if the enemy gets out of cover,I think a 3-burst shot can do the job, and having a higher velocity would make more accurate shots at longer ranges. (6)I think having more ammo would make soldiers use weapons more recklessly.Knowing that you have a relatively small load of ammo would make you shoot more carefully, making accurate shots and putting fear inyo the enmy knowing that the shot are aimed(by the proximity of where the bullets hit and the sound of the rifle firing (7)The killing power again does not matter much, it all depends where you hit, and if you dont hit anything important, then you might as well give the enemy a good scare. I think seeing a bullet rip through comrade and throw up a small cloud of dirt when it hits something solid would scare someone more than seeing a comrade fall with a 5.56. Just the thoughts of a 14-yr old still learning about things.=)
