  1. Rockets take a long time to target. The Russian 82mm rockets took one of my spotters 17 minutes to plot. I was playing a meeting engagement, and took the rockets planning on having a round one bombardment. Silly me, I forgot you can't do round one bombardment in meeting engagements.
  2. I feel the infantry seem to have more efect when firing on other infantry units in CMBB than in CMBO. Not just in supression either, in actually causing some causualties.
  3. not gamey, but in real life the inf would probably use the smoke to withdraw. VLs are themselves somewhat gamey....
  4. I have a new review for CMBB: Hot Damn, BTS software has taken a good thing and made it better! The attention to detail, and realistic military action make this game a masterpiece of Simulation warfare. One warning though...valid military tactics are required to win. 5. I am wondering about Sharpshooters chances to hit. I can draw a line of site and get info for a vehicle or an infantry unit (exposure, firepower etc.) but have no idea about a sharpshooters lethality. I do however, employ them mainly as scouts, but would like to learn to use them better. [ October 17, 2002, 11:48 PM: Message edited by: Robohn ]
  6. I've played about 10 TCP/IP games with my buddy, and I am always the Soviets. He thought it was bad to see tons of Shermans, I have him positively sick of T-34s. One of our battles took place in rain and fog, a good portion of his force bogged in and quicky became worthless. Utilizing many of the tactics I learned to use with Shermans against the Panther and Tiger tanks I find the T-34s to be quite useful. Getting T-34s into the German rear is devilishly fun...Even against King Tigers.
  7. I have not had any undue problems beating the AI in QB assaults, and have defeated humans as well. Seems okay to me.
  8. Trenches--make em duck with machinegun and mortar fire (or even better tanks), then assault their flank with at least a platoon of men. The close combat will be fierce, men will die, but done right you'll take the trench! Hooah!
  9. Spook, the last run (3rd) my troops were in a gulley behind a wooded hill (large hills on map). A few would have been capable of being seen from enemy starting positions, but they were not near the ones that ate the arty barrage.
  10. Before knocking Brits for calling Shermans Ronsons, Americans called them Zippos (another lighter brand). My German playing opponent still hates my prolific use of massed "vanilla" Shermans...then I mention the Germans actually had worse odds in real life than in CM
  11. I've played 2 "Attack" and 1 "Assault" Quick Battles against the computer, and each time the computers turn 1 artillery barrage is dead on my largest concentration of troops. The first time I thought I was just predictable or unlucky, the second and third time I made sure my troops were out of easy line of sight. Seems a little fishy.
  12. You didn't even mention the fact that the early 45mm Russian AT guns suffer from poorly manufactured AP ammunition. Their shells break-up a lot on contact with German frontal armor!
  13. Had a Stuka last night drop its bomb into a town. The effects were most gratifying, blowing up buildings (four) in a radius around the strike. Awesome, totally, awesome!
  14. You mean Advance tires your guys out, just like the manual states!!?? Cool! I've had no problem utilizing all of the types of movement. I usually use "Move to Contact" when going through woods. As soon as my guys spot the enemy they stop and engage, instead of wandering past them like the "Move" order sometimes did.
  15. I use flamethrowers for urban ops. I move them up using trucks or other vehicles and get them into buildings early. They are great for making an enemy abandon a defensive position very quickly. Other than that, they move slow and die very quickly. They attract a lot of fire (no pun intended). Robohn
  16. The only road on the map splits it evenly between the allied and axis sides. My seven vanilla Shermans have all been knocked out, but last turn I knocked 3 of his panthers out. The M10 TDs and a 57mm AT gun finally got some side aspect shots in. All the advice given has been great, and much of it I had already put into use(smoke and buttoning him with arty). The question is meant to be very generic for QB maps that use "Flat" "Clear" and "Rural" for parameters. I appreciate the tactical ideas, they will be very helpful in mauling my "Cat Lover" friend
  17. I actually hadn't considered taking lots of infantry. I guess I didn't want to see that many casualties! It could work though...
  18. My friend and I play on randomly arranged battlefields. I've got some planes, but they have yet to actually do anything. In fact, I've never seen planes do anything in a year of combat mission. I keep hoping though. I have the 76mm M10 and AT guns...but they aren't penetrating. Robohn
  19. Playing on Flat Clear Terrain in Early 1944 how can American forces stop the dreaded Tiger and Panther Tanks?
  20. I thought I'd read somewhere that the engines on the Tiger were bad enough that the Russians would basically use em 'til they broke down and then abandon them. Unlike captured Pz III that they either had enough parts for or they were reliable enough to bother repairing. Can't remember where I read this though....(Achtung Panzer website? wwiivehicles.com?) 21. What is the difference between 105mm and 105mm VT? I see that VT costs more, but what is it? Why is it better? Thanks for any info. Robohn
