I tried the 4x AA settings and sure enough - it does work, unfortunately text doesn't display, for example the scenario names etc. But I did the old <CTL>ESC trick and everything shows up, and I believe it's well worth the effort. Another note - I've had no trouble with the anistropic 4x setting though. Regards

Hi, I'm using the 40.82 XP drivers with my Asus Ti4200 (128Mb - not the deluxe), and they work fine except when I select anti-aliasing I just get a black screen when running CMBB. When I hit <CTL>Q I actually see the correct screen for a brief moment. I can run Il-2 with AA enabled without any problems. I have encountered this problem with the ASUS stock drivers and the 30.82 drivers too so I suspect it's not just a problem with the newest drivers. I wwas actually hoping these drivers would fix this. I'm running an Athlon 1.4Gb on an ABIT KG7 with 512 Mb RAM with WinXP. Any ideas? Regards

I'd better chip in - On my German side, 3 uncles who fought in the Wehrmacht, 2 in the east: 1, Artillery, motorcycle, bad back from cold winters and long stay in Siberia, still going strong. 2, Volksturm, captured by soviets at 16, still going strong. 3, Artillery, captured in South France during allied liberation of Marseilles/Toulon. Health problems from imprisonment in North Africa were detrimental to longevity. Sorry, but I can't pinpoint units, etc. Their sister, my mother who at 16 was helping with telegraphs and phones, was fortunate to have had asssistance in evacuating from their homeland of East Prussia, where they lived on a farm in the region of Koenigsburg. I got it! I'm in Ottawa (Orleans to be precise) and it was waiting in my mailbox when I got home from work. If it shipped on Friday, this is excellent, and lessons were learned from the lengthy CMBO shipment, when it took about 3 weeks. BTW - I did preorder. Thanks BTS!!! Now to get on with the installation, and forget about all those things I'd planned to during the wait for CMBB. Regards

It is an excellent book! Lots of details about all aspects of the Red Army and plently of great pictures, tables, and charts. The author, Steven Zaloga, has provided several works on the russian/soviet forces and is quite an authority. I got my copy a couple of years ago, when it was harder to dig up. What else can i say but, don't hesitate - get it now!!! Regards

I'm not expecting it until a week after thanksgiving. I have a few western front books on backlog, while I think its getting time to delve into Ostfront. Chronological mind you, but "Blocking Action at Lipki" will be nice in CM. Regards

Hey PX, I don't think political correctness was all that big of an issue on the Ostfront. I mean, it was world war 2 and this wargame is somewhat simulating the event. If the developers had to worry about visible minorities and quotas that composed a human wave, the demo would just be a glint in the eye. Perhaps you should wait around for the UNFOR sim that should be coming out shortly. It features PC RPG elements, ability to just stand and watch, and even allows you to draw your own conclusions! Not to demean the actual persons! Regards

Just to elaborate on Canuck's comments about CMBB pricing. Not only are us Canadians jerked around by Customs, when they hold up our packages by a couple of weeks, but then we have to go to the post office to pick it up - after getting little green card in the mailbox telling us that a parcel awaits. That can tack on a few extra days! We then have to go to some corner store, shell out $5 to the Post Office for doing us this great favour, and then have to pay 8% Goods and Services tax on the wohole thing. I don't recall if we had to pay te additional 7% *Provincial Sales Tax as well the last time!? So if the game ends up costing $80 but you can't blame BFC on this. I just wish they could make some arrangement with Amazon, since the main(US) store gets right around this crap when shipping to Canada (seems to be all fixed in the shipping - and gets delivered right to my mailbox!), and we now have an amazon.ca. Just a thought! Regards

I guess I'll have to agree to disagree on some points. I think it's great that a demo was provided, and don't forget - some decent companies don't even go that far, and even without one I would have already placed my preorder. I just hope the effort towards giving us the demo doesn't impede BFC getting the final touches into CMBB. Since I'm in Canada, our bumbing customs officers and the incompetent Canada Post will ensure that I'll hsve to wait a few weeks longer than many players, but guess what? I certainly never played CMBO to death, and will probably savour a few more western front scenarios while I'm waiting. Not to mention IL-2 Thanks for the CMBB demo BFC! The scenarios gave me a taste of what is to come, and I'm really looking forward to it! Regards

There is also a book, which I just took off my shelf: Straf-battalion 999 by Heinz Konsalik, pub'd 1977. Didn't sound like a good spot to be in! The scenarios would be a bit too one-sided. Regards

Apart from another nod of acknowledgement for all the fine work that Gordon had done by bringing CMMOS to us, and continually improving its already rich features I must add: The cost of disk space is certainly not the issue it used to be. I've put 20Gb aside for my gaming needs, and the CMMOS mods are merely a drop in the bucket. Personally, I'd prefer further CMMOS efforts to focus upon loftier matters. Don't get me wrong though, I've also been a starving student, computerless, and unemployed in my time, so I'm not altogether unsympathetic towards drive space concerns <g>. Regards

Before this thread get locked and shifted to the "other" forum: I found the book The CoI by Willi Heinrick a lot better than the movie, although the movie wasn't all that bad either. The book has a lot more going on, which was omitted from the movie, and ther'e a bit more historical information about those particular battles. Another book by the same author, Crack of Doom, takes place in eastern Czechoslavakia in 1945 and is just oozing with defeat. I had to re-read it because so much was happening, and it certainly wasn't a light read. I'm reading Enemy at the Gates, which has about 3 pages from which the movie is based on. Much more from the Soviet side than most books on the subject of Stalingrad that I've read. I saw the movie, but could only sun it up with an OK, but the book is excellent. The movie has more similarities with the book "War of the Rats", which was written to bring the story to the masses, it seems. I almost threw the book in the garbage when Tania turned out to be American. I did make it through, but only to justify the cost of the paerback. Please! Regards

I'd much rather know that the BTS gang are looking ahead with more CM developments and enhancements rather than tinkering around with "Revenge of the nerds". Imagine the number of messages on the Support Page going something like, "Gunzip? why can't I just tar -xvf ... " Or " I get these weird messages while compiling CM on my P200". You think we have graphics rants now? Naah!
