  1. When I first got CM, I was cruising around the ol webring, and at some site, I saw a Wacky Scenario spot. I meant to D\L a few of them, but got sidetracked on a mod or somthing (Im sure you all understand). If anyoone knows what site they're on, let me know, I remember specificly som racing scenario, and a few other oddball ones to boot. Thanks.
  2. Ouch. How fun is it going to be playing as the russians anyhow? HHHHmmm lessee... Ive got 20 T- 34s here, 20 over there, and 15 comin up the middle, Maybe now i can kill that platoon of panthers!!!!
  3. Is there any way to find out what the historical kill ratios were for armour in the ETO? It seems that german armour was supreme, but the allies just had alot more. Anyone know roughly how many sherms it took on average to kill a KT, or Panther? If CM is anywhere close, I would have to geuss it averaged uot to 2 Allied for everyGerman tank. Although this doent account for the units lost to air raids ect... Also, any hints of new( REAL)screenshotsfer CM:BB?
  4. From what Ive read, it was common enough, and BTS stand on it is strange. They say that grenades were not common enough, fine, but what about sherms poopin em off, or Arty? WP was used enough to warrant its use in the game. IMHO.
  5. I agree wholeheartedly, and I think CMMOS is the way to do it, I do have a few questions about it tho. For starters, when I chose Ami camo for my shermans, I got some cross bred mutt, black camo hull, green turret, ect.ect. Any ideas on what thats about? I think that we need to standardize our MODSand managers and do it before CM2, or all MOD hell will break loose. Anyone wanna take a guess at how soon theyll sell through all the copies of CM2 and be on back order? Im betting they will have enough for a month before BTS runs out, any way to pre-order?
  6. Thanks, that was exactly the kind of info I was looking for, thorough, and from the source. That was the first thread Ive read directly from BTS. They're not around much anymore, but Id geuss that designing a game better than CM would occupy ones time.
  7. HeeeHeehEHEHE I just read the FAQs, so that show you do it? 30 posts? koo. Im on my way there, but will you respect me in the morning?
  8. Ive been reading a few articles about tactics in CM, and although many are written by qualified and experianced people, they often contridict eachother. These articles are in CMHQ BTW. One, written by an actuall military officer, says that recon is a waste of forces, and isnt nessessary on the CM battlefield. Another, well researched well written article says that proper recon is essential to winning, citing that knowledge of the enemy position is key to victory. Its been MY experience that recon is important, in the proper situations. First, I consider the info given to me by the briefing. This, obviosly doesnt work for QBs, which I play the most anyways, and the typical breifing doesnt give you the type of info you need, things like aerial recon, intercepted radio transmissions, ect...Secondly, do I have the proper units available, and are they worth risking? If it is a large battle, I will almost always spare a jeep MG or split squad to recon. Just today I played a Normandy scenario( which was excellent, thank you for making it) and i sent a split squad deep into each flank. One running into a ambush from a german platoon that certainly would have caused greater losses, had I not know of it, and the other running into a 88mm Flack, eliminating it. This guns placement in the far western flank and wouldve gotten the drop on two Sherms in a few minutes, killing one at least, it was in perfect position. But thanks to my handy-dandy team, it was waxed without firing a shot. There was also the time I thought I should recon en force up one flank, with a pair of M8s and a jeep MG, and spearhead up the other with the bulk of armour and inf. This was a big mistake. A shreck' toasted the one M8, and the jeep and remaining 'hound were killed by SP guns and a Panther, respectively. I didnt get all the info that I needed, it did however, distact the SP long enough for a Sherm to kill it from across the way. The bulk of the jerry armour popped up in the next move, and decimated my force in short order. Had I those recon element backing up my Inf, it may have been different. So what say you, mighty Grog? What are your rules and tactics, your doctrines and disciplines? Oh, yeah, Also, how does one become amember as opposed to a Juinior Member? And yes, I tried the search, and no, it didnt work..... Thanks for your input in advance.
  9. Whoa! I dont know if everyone is seeing this, but a my last post is totally squroodup, its all pushed-to-the-side-like.
  10. Yeah, the site COMBAT MISSIONS(Sorry,I dont know how to do the link thingy) has a definitive(almost?)list of MOD links, and in the how-to section, there is a list of Bmp files and whole bunches of Gooooood shiznit. Thanks for the Daimler,BTW.I Would dig a link to Fernando's homepage, if he even has one, I want to check out all that hes done, Im not sure if Ive seen it all yet. Is there ever a vote or anything like that for best mod? if so, how is it done? Thanks
  11. Im still new to the scene, but Ive done the same thing, just downlaoding mods all day, trying them out. Fernando, and Gordon have done my fav's, but there is tons of good stuff out there. I dont think Manx has been home since Ive owned the game(!) but that is one of the best places to check.Would someone do th Daimler, or the Humber HC? The only mods Ive been able to find are so-so at best. I dont mean any offence to the modders, I just want everything to look as good as my shermans, and Panther Gs. Thank you all for the exellent work, its almost a hobby for me to zoom,(or crawl(netzero))around and find the best mods.
  12. I played a QB ME, 1250 pts. that comes out to 12 Chaffees. 1 whirblewind 1JagdpnzrIV 1 tiger 1PzrV Panther 1PzrIVJ 1Hetzer 1 Marder 1Jagdpanther 1 wespe All for the cost of 4 Chaffees. While this is probably not the most scientific test, it shows what it can do. It seems to have uncanny accuracy while moving on fast, which makes it top pick for flanking and manuvering. A regular crew killed a hetzer at 800 m and the JagdpnzIV at 700m, the rest were closer, and from the flanks, but this lil puppy can MOVE. I know most people out here already are aware of this lil gem, but it is new to me! If anyone has some good tactics they like to use, let me know. Thanks!
  13. I remember seeing a picture of the MAUS, this gawdawfull huge behemoth that looked like it could pound the snot out of anything.Well, if it could move.Im going to do some experiments with the chaffee, see how it stands up in differant situations. It seems that the stats dont allways mean the bottom line on how good a unit is. Ill report my findings when I get a chance .
  14. I recently played a QB ,ME, as the allies. I decided to buy, (among the usuall combined arms) a platoon of chaffees, to test thier strengths and weaknesses. I think its best to try a whole platoon of a certain type when learning unit quirks, see all the aspects at once, experiment faster ect.ect. Anyways, I figured that since shermans die so quickly anyways, whats the loss of the armour if I can carry a gun just as good( or bad )as the Zippo? They cost 100 points straight up, have a good balanced ammo loadout, and allright speed. In two turns, my 5 Chaffees greased 3 PzIVs 2 Pumas, and a Panther G, with, and get this....NO LOSSES!! Nada,Zip,Nuttin'Hunny. Granted, I had good flank shots on the panther, but still, I was pleasantly suprised. They went on to splatter some Germans(its probably not PC to say the 'K' Word)in halftracks and a clay pigeon, ooops, I mean kubelwagon. I lost one to a shrek' and one was rendered immobile by ATmines. But given the average performance of Allied armour, Id have to say thy're my new fave, well, for the Allies. So I was wondering what everyone else thought of them, likes and dislikes, or just some history maybe? Also, just for fun, If you had to be beamed back Into WWII, And you could pick any WWII era tank to drive, no matter which side you fought, what one would it be? For me, I think it would be the panther G, but its a hard one. This is kinda a geeky question, but, c'mon, I KNOW youve thought about it .
  15. Ive used jeeps for transporting HMGs and FOs, as well as HQ units, I guess Ill have to be sneakier about it though, becuase they seem to be high on target priority lists for the AI. Speaking of which, is there a table for target priority? If not it would be handy at times. The AI does seem to have common sense most of the time, but it is a bummer when a pillbox 88 decides to shoot up an inf. squad and not the sherman right next to it! These are minor gripes tho, this is by far the best game Ive played. After the first mission, I deleted all the other games on my hard drive, and havent looked back. Well, OK, once to a strip poker game, but thats it. Thanks for the input, Ill give it a go!
  16. I've been playing this game for about a month now, and am starting to get a good feel for the tactics and methods of playing, (at least against the A.I for now.)down pretty pat. I only wish that I could find better uses for the jeep\kubelwagon\jeep MG. Usually, a hypothetical situation runs like this. Platoon o' Sherms, Company o' Troops, a jeep. Attack and control these towns \crossroads\bridges. Now comes my dillema, should I use the jeep as a Scout, light(and I mean LIGHT)backup for the infantry,or should I just shoot him down the most obvious spot for an ambush, so it takes out 1 jeep and not two,3, 4 or somtimes 5 (depending on my "Luck" algorythm)Sherman tanks and a handfull of infantry(read,Scout at the top)? Yesterday, I ran a jeep MG up the flank of a German held town I was assaulting, and it took out two halftracks from the rear, before exploding when a 'Shrek popped him. I was so amazed at the little bugger I almost shed a tear. Anywhoo,This is NOT the typical situation, I can see the Jeep MGs as usefull, but the unarmed jeeps are almost completely useless.OK OK, before someone with a huge love in thier hearts for jeeps flames me, they are good for zippin around quick, but thats about all Ive found. I mostly just drive these cans around the flanks of any main push to prematurly( sp?) spring ambushes, although this probably wont work against a human player. Kubelwagons are the funniest things to see, maybe, if they could go as fast as the jeep offroad, I wouldnt laugh so hard when I get them. But I almost enjoy sending these critters out to that crossroads, all by his lonesome, and see if he makes it. I do make him reverse out, once he probes the area, to increse survivability. This, unfourtunatley, doesnt always work out real good for the guy in the kubelwagon. This is probably considered 'gamey'( I always think of deer for some reason)and I can see why, but against the A.I. where honor is a bit looser, I will do it. Does anyone have constructive critizism on better ways to use these?
  17. Wow, those are good ideas, backed up well. To bad that the development team has ruled it out. Maybe CM3? By that time, hopfully processor speed wont be as much of a issue. Also, if these tools were made optional, players would have thier choice as wether or not to use it. It could become a new rul, Like; Fions 75, village, ME,old LoS.. or somthing to that effect.....
  18. Hehehehe.. Y'all must be from Montanna, where the men are men, and the sheep are scared. Thanks Dogboy
  19. Maybe a good compromise between ease-of-use and reality would be a mix of the two, maybe somthing like this: You choose a unit, lets say an Inf. unit,he is standing in open ground, looking over a small valley, there are tall pines at the bottom of the valley, and a high ridge directly across, at higher elevation than the unit. You want to see what he can see. Hit L. A (lets just for examples sake say) 270 degrees, or whatever is deemed realistic for an inf man to see with a turn of the head( which hopefully you have noticed they DO ). A blue field pops up, and the 'shadow'behind the tall pines is black, or some such, because its blocked, the ridge behind those tall pines, however, would be blue. I did not suggest a 'radar' type LOS, and lord knows that they didnt have Xray gogs either. This type of tool would not do anything that the current one doesnt, exept save time and energy. Think of it like this, if a platoon was setting up an ambush on the road, and a squad was directed to a place where they could not see the target area, dont you think they would say 'Hey Sarge? Umm, I cant see the road from here sir....' Look, Im a totall greenie still, and I dont wanna go around steppin on peoples sensitive toes about a certain tool in a certain game, I just think it would be a vast improvement.
  20. I hate to interupt two young people in love, and spoil your bout of 'bumping'( if thats what you kids are calling it these days)but i thought Id ask the you, the oracle of CM Forum, weather or not its at all possible to get slo- mo during the movies. In another thread, someone mentioned it, and me owning the game for a total of 2 weeks, have no idea as to what the hell the guy was talking about. I know it isnt Frequently Asked, but I knew you would Know The Answer. Also, I agree whole heartedly about Tiger. And Im greeeeen, as if ya couldnt tell, I tried the search engine, but it DOESNT WORK, so sorry to bother you, just curious.
  21. Im sure that this has been done, but i cant even USE the "search engine"(its a YUGO ). Has anyone built a scenario on the last battle scene in Saving Private Ryan? Ive thought about doing one, you see, im rather new at this and thought it might be a good way to stretch the wings. But if one is done already, perhaps it would be worth a lookover. If anyone knows where to find it , lemme know. Thanks. Also, how hard would a total conversion to modern weapons be? I know I know, it would be HUGE, but has anyone discussed how it might be done? Making the King Tiger actually LOOK like a M1A1 would be tough, but if you can tweak the numbers, and have the time, it would be a kick in the pants....
  22. YEAH!! Why would it be considered more micomanagment than the system already in place, digging around with the current system sounds more like micromanagment to me.
  23. I dont know who cauldron is, im Dogface, the gruntenest grunt that ever grunted a grunt GRUNT If you say it enough times, it sounds like toe fungus.
  24. AMEN. I also think there should be more ways for a tank to die, like the good ol' turret a poppin', or the crew running out in flames,or anything than the standard 'Brewin' up' and 'sad tank, he went bye-bye' saggy barrel thing. We have to admit to ourselves that a certain satisfaction comes from dusting a tank, and while the occasional big explosion happens, (which IS cool ) there HAD to be more than three ways for a tank to be destroyed. What about secondarys? Like after the crew bails, the remaing ammo goes? or more pieces flying up, or SOMETHING to keep it exiting. Oh well.
  25. I think you hacked the Combat Mission 3 files on accident. I dig those casings tho, nice touch fo sho'.Is that a Lynx?
