  1. Hey, KR, you pick up move60 yet? I know it is still early down there....
  2. Did Eumundi start this thread from the grave, or by proxy. To paraphrase his quote (I KNOW someone has it in their sig) it is not up to us to prove that we are right, but as customers if we want it, it must be right. Where is that sig when I need it...reaches for another drink..
  3. < crunch, crunch, could you pass the tabasco? > sound of me eating my favorite Cub hat, size 7 5/8, after reading the following: I guess you learn something every day, until you die....and then you learn what death really is....
  4. Only seen in the Summer scenarious, but from what I hear, the bell tingle is done quite nicely... </font>
  5. Tim, If it is subbing in for the shrapnel round then possibly OK, although I don't believe that the shrapnel shell was all that effective either due to difficulties in timing. I see later posts that list the canister(case-shot) round as part of the ammo list for the gun. I don't debate that the ammo existed! It is the efficacy and usage in actual situations that I find to be lacking. I have never read(or heard) an account that says "our canister round really put the hurt on the Germans today" or anything like that. I would propose that the round was in existance, but rarely, if ever used. Much like the famed "canister" round for the 18" gun on the Yamato(as an extreme example). Now, maybe I am relying to much on second hand sources, i.e. previous work in the field of simulation, but I don't believe that something of this magnitude would have been overlooked by so many others in the field. However, I am willing to be enlightened by some new information if it is presented. Thanks. [ September 09, 2002, 03:22 PM: Message edited by: tabpub ]
  6. 2 experiences with Yelnia First time, took the Germans with default positions. Gave commands to only the MG teams and the 37's. Rest remained hidden and only fired when they thought best. 37's got 2 T34's before being KO'd. End result German tac victory. Reason: the AI is still not a good attacker as the armor would not press the attack. Second time, took the Russian side, allowed the German to free set up. Germans played merry hell on the initial infantry advance. One 37 opened up and was apparently ko'd, but we kept up an area fire on it just in case. As the infantry was tied down, the little voice said, "Send in the armor!" All 6 34's advanced with arcs on, blazing away. The other atg, cunningly hidden by the AI on the far left (attack perspective) nailed all 3 34's of one platoon before the other platoon could aquire and kill it. The remaining 3 34's roamed the field, one assigned to each "wooded" area. One, watching the right hand woods was immob'd by a unspotted HQ unit and bailed. End result- tac vic for the Russian side. Overall impression- as usual play against a human for the best feel, since the AI in general cannot improvise or adapt to the situation. Armor vs infantry, while powerful, now has a fragility and lack of "instant" response that is pleasingly accurate. IMHO.
  7. A HoverTank from "Hammer's Slammer's" is cool also, but I don't think it should be included in the final version of CMBB either.
  8. I agree. I have never heard of a cannister round for the Russian 76mm gun; either in reading or in playing various simulations, either computer based or miniature based. I am wondering what the rationale(read documentation) was for the inclusion of such a round.
  9. Who did you blow, or are you dyslexic? The price was $65 for the bundle.... </font>

  11. Well, now I have a copy to give away at Christmas and spread the gospel......Hallelujah!!! --CMBO I mean, CMBB they will have to pry from my cold dead hands....--- [ September 07, 2002, 03:42 AM: Message edited by: tabpub ]
  12. Hey, Kanonier! Do you have the current turn? Tree and I are flying through FotM, so this would be the final one for me also.
  13. I am a minature wargamer (as I'm sure that quite a few of you are also) and one of my rules sets for tactical combat refers to the T34 only having 7 rounds in the ready racks and that in order to replenish they would have to lift up the floor plates in the turret. This would take approx. 3 minutes. I was wondering if a) BFC had heard anything like this; anyone heard of corraborating information; or c) if true, was this factor built into CMBB or ignored?
  14. Yes, could we get a listing of the scenarios and completion percentage, so we could have some idea of the progress here? I have two down, one on the verge, and two that have a bit to go.
  15. Speaking of trial by combat, we could put the above mentioned three, plus one other(JasonC .comes to mind) on the game show "Russian Roulette". For those who haven't seen the show on the Game Show Network, 4 contestants stand on a stage with a trap door under them. Every round one additional trap door is enabled. If you answer a question wrong, then the incorrect contestant pulls a handle, the lights spin and flash, and if a "loaded" cylinder comes up under the contestant, the trap door opens and they fall into the hole. Last one standing wins. Now for this version, these 4 would have to answer various groggly history questions(WWII in particular). The area under the stage would be filled with Crisco heated to 400 degrees. I can just see it now, JasonC challenges Dorosh. "What is the cyclic rate of fire for the MG 42 on a Bren tripod during a period of high humidity? a. 862 rpm b. 776 rpm c. 667 rpm d. Who the hell can count something that fast? Dorosh answers b! WRONNNNNGGGG! Anyone worth their salt(John D.) would know that the high humidity would significantly slow the rate of fire due to the presence of moisture impeding the departure of the bullets from the barrel! The correct answer would be c. Mike pulls the handle, everything spins, he drops in the bubbling Crisco, and OUILA! French-Fried Grogs Legs are now being served in the studio cafeteria! I think I need another Margarita.....
  16. But, when the Brooklyn class ships were utilized in the Solomons, they certainly held their own against the Japanese. And I seem to recall from using them in simulations that they had more armor than most of the heavy cruisers of their generation, either American or Japanese. With 3-5" of Belt armor and up to 6" of turret protection, they were at least as well protected as most of the American Heavy Cruisers of that period, if not better.
  17. I will arrive fashionalby late and drink some of Sabotai's "Rocks"(the Rolling variety)
  18. Huzzah, I should be able to come, as the Command Authority is out of town that day! How many hours do you have available? I could inform some others that have the game.
  19. Rune, you are diabolical. The 4th of all days. Is this to make up for the fact that NO ONE brought a laptop to the meeting in Schaumburg? I know my wife and I are going out that day, but maybe it will be later in the day...<hope, plead, whimper, grovel, offer her more shopping money, etc> I will try to move heaven and earth to be there, other wise it will be just you and Berli. I wish it could be Sat. as my beloved will be out of town and I am a free agent(so to speak). If I can't make it, say hi to Chuck and Berli and anyone else that makes it.
  20. Well, the problem was with my habit of not shutting down my laptop, but merely putting it into hibernation by shutting the lid. Evidently this was the cause of the problem, because last night I shut it down and now the movie is working correctly. I guess that should be a warning for other laptop users, at least. Thanks for the time.
  21. ATI Mobility M6 Driver 6.13.10.6015 This is the first time that I have had this problem, and I have been running on this system for over 6 months. The only odd thing that I can think of, is that I was running AOL at the same time as CM, since I was really churning moves out and receiving at the same time. I will try without AOL in the background and see what is up.
  22. I have a problem with playing movies from my pbem opponents. 1. Hitting the play button sends the time counter to 60 seconds immediately and no units move. 2. Hitting fast forward will move me ahead in 10 sec chunks and units will move and results will happen, but hit the play button and it will shoot to the end of the movie again. 3. Now, before this, there was a couple of times where after hitting FF once, and then start, that the movie would play as normal, but this does not occur anymore. I have become resigned to reloading the game and everything all over again, but I was just wondering if I am the only report of something like this. I searched, but nothing seemed to come up to fit the bill, so to speak.
