  1. I'm sure that "Combat Mission Scenario Depot" is your site. It has a very good map section. Contact with Adm. Keith in admketh@dragonlair.net I'm sure he'll delighted with your excellent maps. You can see the site in Combat Mission Scenario Depot
  2. Jeff Duquette says: "No offence Viceroy old boy, but I never believe anything posted on Internet forums unless it’s specifically referenced along with several examples. If you’ll elaborate a bit on the above it might be interesting" Well, one man who often use this tactic was Generaloberst Gotthard Heinrici, the last defender of Berlin. He won a reputation on defensive actions in the Eastern Front. He normally sets a double defense line. Before the russian massive artillery barrages, Heinrici ordered his soldiers back to the second defensive line (he had a real instinct to know when the russians were preparing an attack). Once the barrage finished, the germans returns to the front line. You can read something about this tactic in Cornelius Ryan's "The Last Battle".
  3. Yup. You're right. I think the US have a higer number of points but (after a long time using the calculator) the british ratio is slightly higher. Thanks, obviously I'm not fit this night
  4. In a new battle scenario I'm making I have placed SS and Volksturm soldiers on german side and US army soldiers on the allied side. Then, I chose a british reinforcement on turn #10. After a file save, I went to the "Play Game/Battle" screen and ... it appears as a SS-British game! Obviously I prefers a SS-US battle so ... anybody knows whats the criteria the AI uses to show the icons in the "Play Game" screen?
  5. I have IE 5.0 too, but I cannot see the buttons in the english version. When I try to see that in the german version then all the buttons appear without any problem. I think Tom is still making changes in his page ...
  6. Bergmann's Shermans too. The best Shermans, I think.
  7. My favorite site is Tom's Combat Mission Headquarters, but his last updated was September, 8th! Hey Tom! What's happen?
  8. Agreed with Soddball. The best tactic with PzIV is: DON'T USE IT.
  9. I think Chad is right. Why not a tank withdraw? I haven't experience as a tank comander but I think that a comander sitting in a Sherman, seeing a King Tiger in front of him probably shout a "REVERSE! GO! GO! GO!" that transform his driver in a deaf for life man. A 13 (or more) seconds in this situation seems a long period of time ...
  10. "If you want a highway. Make two roads 1 tile away from each other in paralell and elevate the two roads 1 elevation higher. Then in between the two roads make the elevation the same as the sourrounding area. It will make a ditch inbetween the two roads." Oh, yes. It's right ... today. But we are talking about a game that recreate 1944-45 landscapes, 55 years ago. At this time, a multilane highway in Europe (specially in the CMBO theather) was very, very rare. A "highway" in this case is only a (little bit) wide paved road ...
  11. Agreed!, specially with the rivers and cities. When I sent my Remagen scenario to Tom (TCMHQ) I received am e-mail from him saying "At least somebody understand that the Rhine is a major river, not a 20m wide stream!". Unfortunately it's true. I'm tired to see the Waal, Rhine or Sena reduced to a pathetic one-tile wide stream. And the cities ... well, I'm european and I know that our cities, specially the rural ones, are chaotic. In a small rural village you can see fences, walls and even crops between houses. Streets rarely are straight and the size of the houses are not regular (large buildings attached to small ones, etc.). Even in the major cities you can found trees, no-exit streets, parks and pools. With all this elements in a city map not only the city appears more "realistic", the city fighting is much more fun too. And I see another sin. In many maps I can see roads like switchbacks. Even in a mountainous terrain an engineer try to maintain his road as flat as possible, excavating, levelling terrain, etc. Please, no more up-down-up-down roads ...
  12. The CM Borg say: Resistance is futile ...
  13. Ummm ... interesting. I remember the evil Col. Rosenberg turning my squads to "broken" status due to failed morale checks, but ... it's better than haven't no officers to turn a "panic" squad to a "ok!" one. If CM:BB emulate the low number of russian officers in the battlefield, a negative rank leader will have a decisive role in the course of the battle.
  14. The Stug mod is the Fernando's "Tricolor StuG/StuH" from CMHQ-3rd Party Mods, I think. I have this mod and it's ... wow!
  15. Don't forget the skdf 7/1 and 7/2. Almost indestructible vehicles. And the evil 20mm flak gun. Put tons of it.
  16. Dad: Your son takes your car on saturday evening? Your son ask for money to go to the cinema? Your son organize partys when you're not at home? If the response is "yes" then you MUST buy CM. Your son will remain attached to the PC for a long, long period of time ...
  17. It's only my opinion, but thinking about designing historical battles there are, probaly, some ways to do a well balanced battle: - Strong attacker and weak defender: You can reduce the time limit. This way, the attacker should plan his attack with care because there is no place for mistakes. In that manner, the defender has an opportunity. And you can count with the poor attacking AI CM has. - Strong defender and weak attacker: You can put objective flags in key points so it's not necessary for the attacker to crush the entire enemy force to win the battle. This, combined with a well timing, give a chance to the attacker. Remember: it`s only my opinion. Don't harass me
  18. Thanks for your comments Big Dog! Only one correction: Bridge at Remagen is my only batlle but not my only work in the Scenario Depot. I have an operation too: Forbach. It's in the Top Ten list. And thanks to Admiral Keith (and you, of course) for your incredible work at the Scenario Depot.
  19. I prefer the historical battles too, even the unbalanced one. I love to read about WWII battles and CM gives me some of the sensations that the soldiers in these battles probaly has. Anyhow, you can enjoy with CM even when your isolated company are crushing by an armored battalion. You can try to minimize your casualties, find an escape route or plan a decent withdraw. BTW, when I design a battle (always historical battles) I try to find a well balanced one. It's better for multiplayer games ...
  20. You can fight some kind of campaing game using the rules in the Canuck page of Michael A. Dorosh: http://wargames.freehosting.net/cmbits.htm This rules are based in the Campaing Game rules of the Squad Leader game, adapted to CM. With it you can plot the You can apply this rules to an Operation or Mini-Campaing to plot the performance of one character (a platoon, company or battalion commander) across the entire fight. Yes, this is not a true campaing system like other games has, but it's a good approximation (I think).
  21. I'm using DD's grass, snow and tree bases textures and it looks quite real. Not much bright, too. You can download it from CMHQ: http://www.combatmission.com/mods/grass.asp In this link you can see some screenshots from scenarios using DD's textures.
  22. Thanks all for your comments BTW I will CM2 includes "grazing fire" for MG's in the game engine.
  23. Probably the answers are in another thread, but the damned  search engine stucks me too ... Two questions about top floors: 1. There are some kind of procedure to conserve the troops in the top floors from one battle to the next in an operation? (when you don't loose part of the map, of course) 2. One MG in the top floor has any kind of penalties? I remember the ASL rule, when you loose the MG "penetration factor" if in a top floor. Thanks in advance for the answers.
  24. Why not? It's also a real tactic. When the Germans do their final assault over the Frost's positions in Arnhem they use this tactic (see Cornelius Ryan's book "A Bridge Too Far")
