  1. "That means you've got to be at the right latitude and longitude to get the sunsets and sunrises right. In December 1 sun-up is 7am and sundown is 5pm. On July 1 sun-up is 4:45 and sundown is 7:30 pm. A big difference for conducting operations. the CM game engine is more subtle than you may think." You think that matters to 99% of the gamers? What a lot of effort, when there's no time for other stuff that people actually want... I don't understand what difference real time makes when the game clock simply runs down from start time. If it gave us real time, or if your market is Defense Agencies I can understand...
  2. ...demonstrate how truly EASY it is to script..." AAAAAAARGH! Remind me to demonstrate how truly easy it is to win DOD contracts. (Yes, it's all in the mind.)
  3. Why be forced to join yet another club that wants information from us that (regardless of their policy today) they may sell to yet another spammer in the future? STEAM etc seem made for online play where you want to find oppos, teams etc. PS: I appreciate it's frustrating for BFC, but from what I can see, CM1 is still way more popular than CM2. CM2 is a terrific game. But, I find myself burning out after every 2 or 3 months CMSF play and have to return to the "mothership "CM1 for 6 months or so to recharge. That passion and loyalty could be thought of as a very good thing if exploited appropriately.
  4. "The stars in the sky wouldn't even be correct for Afghanistan!" LOL... Is that what you spend your game time watching. You must have been joking, right?
  5. Re high end laptops or desktops, I recommend an outfit in CA: XI Computers. Not as cheap as Dell obviously, but they can make what you want.
  6. So ArmA is entertainling vs the AI? If so, I'll pick it up. These shooters are fun occasionally.
  7. I honestly hope you turn out to be correct.
  8. I understand your point, Mord. But, regardless of the fact that there may be close to 100x more CM1 scenarios available, I find the % of good scenarios in CMSF seems smaller than in CM1. It's a delightful surprise when I find a really good CMSF scenario that doesn't feel cookie cutter.
  9. MeatEtr: Actually I am only going through the solitaire BF2 game not Bad Company. I rarely play these games, but have enjoyed the two WW2 RTS series games (whose names I have already forgotten). It's just nice for a change to fire and hear all those automatic weapons lol. I have a pretty decent 30" Dell LCD giving me approx 2800x1800 @ 60Hz. Maybe I can get higher refresh at lower res. Is LCD at 60HZ a headache inducing res? Akuma. Thanks for the info. I'll try it (one day). But RT multiplayer online scares me a bit as I am usually working at the same time, so PBEM or vs the AI is safer in case I have to rush off to do something productive (admittedly not too often). But, am just as happy booting up some golden oldies like Rome Total War, KOTOR etc. Now I have a new powerful system I tried Flashpoint, which in the past was too demanding for my old system. But, was very disappointed with it, the way infantry moved etc. Seemed a bit like the "America's Army" thing where you would be running around like demented rabbits. What can I say... I'm just old and joints have 2 much arthritis to do the wrist twitch thing.
  10. I noticed in Road to Dinas first time I played the campaign ended abruptly due to too high casualties. Probably a good thing as it would be frustrating playing a hopeless situation campaign. Regarding regular scenarios, thos also tend to end too soon with your victory as the AI calculates the AI enemy has no hope, whenin fact they seem to have a fair amount of capacity. I understand that too quick ending this can be avoided by adding enemy reinforcements that would arrive only after the game ends, and this will keep the on map guys fighting to the bitter end, (or at least till one achieves a satisfying victory).
  11. Looks really amazing work R. Thanks. Any eta on the completed mod? (Not sure if if it's worth to d/l the beta.)
  12. What is ArmA 2 about - a BF2 mod? And what do you like about it? (Will see if I want to try it?)
  13. yes there are NW europe scenarios (and NW Europe mods) you can find at BFC repository and other sites - see links.
  14. Initially I wuz dismayed and frustrated at the relative poverty of the Brits gear. But, I ended up enjoying mastering their systems and enjoy playing the Brits more than the US. One has to be rather more clever/skillful imo. 90% of US tactics seem to be using their massive firepower to blow up everything before moving in. Not much subtlety. A couple of terrific Brit scenarios are "Royal Mud Marines" and "Joint Venture". Both at the repository.
  15. Thanks but rarely enjoy RTS games - eg: am playing BF2 for a change in pace, but literally get a headache after an couple hours. AKUMASD: I KNEW someone was going to ask and I had deleted the show. I think it was called "Rethink Afghanistan". Actually, I just Googled it. Hope this is it: http://www.commondreams.org/newswire/2009/02/27-12
  16. Oh, but could you do something to make the repository less clunky? (Of course not until after Afghanistan, Nato, CM:N etc are released heh...) It has to be detrimental to the spread of the CM2 game that there is such a small quantity of good scenarios and mods compared to CM1.
  17. "...we're very clever game publishers. We've been doing this for 11 years and have outlived more companies than I can count." Very true and congratulations! So many promising companies (KOIOS, Minuteman, SSG etc) that addressed our niche wargame market have fallen. I cannot think of a single other company today producing our genre of game at your level of quality. But plz let us be the poor schmucks who run beside your triumphal chariot procession whispering in your ears "All glory is fleeting" lest arrogance brings about etc. Peace yo...
  18. Just saw a TV documentary on the situation and they had an ex-Soviet general as well as US researchers and politicians talking about the experiences from the 19th century Brits to current day. It really sounds like a hopeless mess. Apparently, the current situation is so corrupt that only a fraction of the billions (someone estimated 3 trillion dollars) actually gets to the people re construction etc. Afghan spokesmen saying they don't want any invader there. And they are the best insurgents around. I wasn't aware of the political situation that India supports Afghanistan as a way of squeezing Pakistan. Hence Pakistan often is highly motivated to help the Taliban and Al Q. In addition, the Pashtuns (sp?) have always lived as tribes all over the Pak-Afghan border and don't accept either govt as legitimate. The border was created by Imperial Brits simply as a convenient map marker of edge of empire. So, to the locals there is no border. In brief that was the explnation why the Taliiban and Al Q can't be stopped. All fascinating stuff.
  19. How can you tell if they are "dedicated" vs non dedicated HW crews? I do lots of tests during set up. But if they arrive as reinforcements, it's a mystery as to who will dismount with their HW.
  20. Please NO STEAM. I hate having to install some other program that's trying to sell me some other service just to run a game I own... TOTAL WAR NAPOLEON for example.
  21. donnie: if you still haven't found the savedgame directory let us know what OS you are using as Win 7 may save to a completely different directory than (say) Win 98.
  22. Is this the same giude that is supposed to come on the new disks that you get when you buy CMBB from BFC today?
