  1. The big advantage of the Z folder system is that you can always remove everything in it to get back to the default game. I think that you could put ALL the Italian mod folders and files into one folder called (say) ZZITALIAN MODS, and that should override all other mods in the Z folder (assuming you do not have other folders/files called ZZZsomething - in which case the mod with the most "Z's" in the name will be loaded last). (Can someone confirm or correct my supposition?)
  2. I can load the game and issue orders etc. But, when I save, I cannot reload that saved game. System freezes up.
  3. "I personally don't split my German squads into more than their constituent teams..." Not sure what you mean. In this scenario one can split German squads into 3 teams. What those teams are composed of is up to the player. I started with the AT team (which then had a regular inf icon) and then split the remainder of the squad using the Assault split command. One of the Assault teams had the AT icon even though it had no AT. I had not noticed that phenomenon in any of the games I played before.
  4. In the first scenariob I broke a German AT team off and then broke the remainder of the squad into Assault teams. But, for some reason the AT team has a regular inf icon, and one of the assault teams has the AT icon(!). Anyone else experienced this?
  5. Well I am proud that I struggled through this very hard campaign and didn't give up (even though I was dying to try out some of the newer campaigns, esp from the German side). For what it's worth: LA HAYE was a US Major Victory 1000 vs 265 I really liked LA HAYE as it seemed to me the pinnacle of CMBN scenarios with a lot of units and choices. Great stuff. Campaign was a Total Victory (which I didn't think I deserved based on friendly casualties). KIA 255 US vs 305 Ger WIA 245 vs 197 MIA 2 vs 11 Tanks 3 vs 5 AFV's 2 vs 0 Other 5 vs 5 But I am SO happy to finish this brutal campaign. It's eminently winnable per the system calculations, but very frustrating due to the easy way one can take major casualties. Much of the time I felt I was fighting the game system rather than using good tactics. I tried to only replay a turn when the system did something really weird and I lost a lot of men or stuff for no fault of my own tactics. But, I really learned a lot about the CMBN system as well as discovered many weird phenomena: 1) Several of my platoon HQ's were KIA in SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS. Not only were their Co CO's and XO's unable to provide any C2 for the rest of the campaign, these platoon HQ's were never replaced. Nevertheless, it was not a problem to fight on without C2 and win. I concluded that C2 is overrated and is way too subtle in terms of its game effects. 2) An inf section took a casualty whilst boarding a truck. The result was the inf unit remained greyed out for the entire battle and neither it nor the truck could receive or carry out any orders. 3) A squad was killed but for one man, however, that one man was able to be issued an ASSAULT order. All in all the designer did a great job creating a really hard campaign that has clearly sorted the men from the armchair general "poseurs." Please don't let anyone tell you they know how to play CMBN well until they've completed the Courage and Fortitude campaign! When I have recovered and played some rather easier games I hope to go back and try some of the battles in C&F that my track bypassed. So, how many of us actually completed the campaign? Six???
  6. Within 6 turns of completing this amazing campaign (WEGO/WARRIOR). Just wondering how many other players here have completed this campaign. We should get a medal for sticking it through to the bitter end in LA HAYE. Great training experience and for those who complain that playing the AI is too easy, or who think they have mastered CMBN, it's a "must play." I'll post results when done so the hardcore (you know who you are) can compare.
  7. Got it, thanks... I still find the AI plenty hard to play against, so looking forward to the 2 Campaigns. (Altho' the German one sounds like it could be grim.)
  8. Sounds impressive. Will this be playable vs the AI or only H2H?
  9. That's a shame GAJ as you are providing a very useful service on your own dime(!) However, I find your site primarily useful for CM1 mods etc which BF doesn't much support any longer. Not sure there is any reason to try and compete with BF Repository for CM2 games.
  10. Yes, well worth reading. It's also well worth reading the discussion that follows. Wish we could have that sort of intelligent discussion here regarding game design without the usual name-calling that seem to predominate.
  11. "you cannot purchase a single company of infantry, much less platoon" I haven't had the nerve to look int the editor yet, but I found that statement to be astonishing. Everywhere I read that CM2 is designed to be for smaller unit combat, and not for the larger battalion-level battles that were normal in CM1. So, why would the editor be set up for battalions only and then you have to cut em down? Re waypoints I recall that in CM1 one could set a waypoint far away and the next turn all the waypoints that the AI figured out would be automatically done for you. You could see exactly the route the AI would "recommend." If you didn't like it it was easy to move the existing waypoints around a bit to get a better route, or simply cancel and set your own waypoints. Units in CM1 pretty much went where you expected. Not so in CMBN. It's tremendously frustrating to control CMBN units - esp in urban environments. They tend to run places for no apparent reason and get slaughtered. My house rule if this happens is to replay that turn (and I have gotten used to saving every turn - why isn't there an "autosave" function?). I can still win ok, but all the above makes the CMBN turns take a lot longer than CM1 and they are mentally exhausting.
  12. Wondered what others use to optimize the look of CMBN at night as well as day...
  13. Looks fabulous! But, wasn't sure about what looks like the iron girder "bridges to nowhere." I don't see any roads to or from those bridges, or any reason for roads there in the first place, so they seem a bit odd.
  14. That's a good idea. I d/l everything I can find, but often it gets hard (and very time consuming) to distinguish between different mods of the same unit. There are times I spend more time figuring out mods than actually playing. It's great when you have a single designer like Aris who is making mods that are better than anyone else, but that it not always the case - especially sound mods as you can't quickly compare a bunch like you can with images.
  15. +1 to that. permanent's post was scary. There are SO many other games like Sudden Strike out there for players who like that genre. It's makes me tremble to believe that anyone would want the CM series (designed for a completely different market) to go in that direction.
  16. Just to clarify, are all three of these only QB maps, or is one or more an actual playable scenario? Thanks...
  17. If one didn't have to sign in to yet another site, that would be a great idea. But, why not simply go to Band of Brothers CM site as they permit one to go in and re-edit posts indefinitely, so one can add to ones list at any time.
  18. Very good summary of what CM2 is trying to simulate. (And also the reason why many of us believe WEGO to be the better/more realistic method of play, as playing RT with pauses to instantly coordinate all of ones forces eliminates 99% of the above RL issues.)
  19. Ok, I understand and agree... It would be good to know which of ones' split squads were the Assault, Recon or AT teams. In a large scenario, unless one has a photographic memory one has to do a lot of clicking to find who is where.
  20. "WW2 is a very popular topic in all forms of media..." Don't want to get into a silly argument here, but WW2 is NOT popular in the way that mass entertainments like football, baseball and other types of contemporary entertainment are. I agree that CMBN should be scored against other games in their genre. So, what would you consider such "other games" to be? (The only other ones I could think of that come close would be "Achtung Panzer" and the "Panzer Command" series. Both far inferior to the CM series. So, if those two games scored higher than CMBN then I would agree that would indicate imbalance.)
  21. Football itself is a pretty popular sport in certain circles (I am told). I know that virtual Baseball etc is huge.
  22. I regularly check the mods and maps forums for all CM games. I guess I just missed this scenario. (I just wondered if something is ever posted and there is no announcement, so that we have to actually troll thru the Repository "manually?")
  23. "specific icons for heavy weapons teams, such as MGs, mortars, zooks, etc." I thought there were. Or, is it the WW2 icon mod I am using. It has all of those, but not Engineer icons.
