Extra Ammo: How much is too much?
Erwin replied to Doug Williams's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
My rule of thumb for initial load-out is for a SMG-equipped man to have around 300 rounds, with about 150-200 rounds per rifleman, and 500 rounds per BAR or MG. Maybe 2K rounds for a HMG. But, am curious - what would they have in RL? The hard part is finding a way to give snipers 50-100 rounds since you usually have a min of 1000 rounds from trucks. It wastes a lot of time reducing ammo loads on trucks by giving to full squads in order to get to a level where a sniper can take 50-100 rounds. Hope we get a revamp of the ACQUIRE system to allow easier replenishment and also smaller amounts of ammo. Agreed, it doesn't seem "right" that we can load up a two man team with several thousand rounds and have them run around like it's nothing. There should be stricter limits per man. -
Since we're told that ISIS is rich, you'd think they would have the very best stuff. We're told that they make millions per day by transporting oil and selling in Turkey. I can't understand this. You would think that knocking out pipelines and a few tankers would put an easy and immediate stop to that. Unless... we want the oil to flow for some reason... Hmm...

Looked like the wheels hit a pothole and the tank slid off, but don't see any road damage...

Finding the enemy with a strict ROE
Erwin replied to AttorneyAtWar's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
"it takes a ton of bullets to damage a building enough that it is not preserved." I did a test once and IIRC it took a couple minutes of 50 cal to affect a building points-wise, and maybe 40 seconds for a Bradley main gun. Was a long time ago, however... -
Lovely....

It's a tricky problem. Sometimes you just have to have observers sit and watch for several turns. Most times, if you were a real CO concerned about your men, you'd probably find an excuse to recon by fire. "Hey, doesn't that shadow look like a dude with a rifle!" -
Status update on "Black Sea"
Erwin replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Highly recommended bedtime reading. Makes you forget all about Ebola and how a couple weeks ago they were predicting about 2,000 cases, and now over 550,000 cases. Never mind "World War Z" - we'll have WWE. -
Ooops... meant 1MB.

Deployment of Heavy machineguns on the Attack movie

Interesting: "...makes indirect fire possible..." "...at 500 yards range the beaten zone is 140 yards long and half a yard wide..." The film makes it clear how unusual most CM2 scenarios are since we rarely have the sort of long LOS that the HMG's are designed for. And I wonder if we can even use indirect fire as depicted. -
File is only about 1GB. I can send it some other place if it doesn't turn up.

Now for something completely different

It's being advertised all over the theatres here. -
The ISIS "insignia" looks good. Can you do "flags" etc that appear on their vehicles' doors etc? The black pants still needs more texture - maybe dust/dirt to show the folds? It's a shame we can't use CMMODS for CMSF. What happened over there?
-
Yup, I have it. Sent.... Hope you can do some more scenarios, or better yet, a campaign. Esp if you are up for the current interesting situation in Iraq and Syria.

FWIW I have several UNCOM mods mixed with a SPY mod etc. And I find even the "fighters" in my games are a mix of guys in hoods and guys with various color head gear/kaffiyey. Here's what I have: Mord's masked Syrian fighters (some black and some grey hoods) Mord's Mixed UNCOM Combatants v1 (includes "cyrian-spy-uniform" bmp's etc. as well as Mord's Combatants including Jordanian and Palestinian-style colored scarfs as well as black). SYRIAN FACES which also includes troops with black balaclavas (no green band) and even gas mask mods.

The thing is that the subject has been brought up so many times in the past. If you have hard evidence that it would improve BF sales then you should tell them. Otherwise...
-
I luv em... Suggestions: Need more texture on the boots. Is it possible to make em look like sneakers or sandals? Also could do with a few regular faces with the black "skull cap" as shown in the pics. IS troops are not all hooded. The black pants seem like shadows - not enuff texture. (One could simply use some of the clothes from the "SPIES" and other UNCOM mods for "mish-mash" variety.)

It makes me a bit suspicious when we suddenly get these "Why isn't CM on STEAM?" threads usually from people who never otherwise post. Is STEAM offering rewards to people who can bring em more games?
-
MORD has done a lot of xnt mods - including many in the categories mentioned by agusto.

The issue re tank riding seems to be the same re why have soft transports? If soft transports and even halftracks were not seen close to the front lines, why have em in CM since CM simulates the bleeding edge of battle? Of course it's because we players love playing with trucks, jeeps and halftracks etc. We even want to have the SdKfz 7 which as an 88mm gun tractor would hardly ever be seen close to the front line. We also seem to want tank riders regardless of the "realism". And what is the harm??

Maybe even call the compendium "FAQ's"?? ("Frequently Asked Questions")
