Dude, WombatGeneral, this is another general forum topic. That's why they locked up your other posts. -
My own private Mortar Park....
von Murrin replied to Dogface21's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
The mortar park is good, and I use it a lot. As far as using shot pattern to find it, if you group all your target points within 2m or so (essentially same spot), it's hard to tell where it's all coming from. The only thing to really watch for is random counter-battery fire. I'll do this if I suspect that my opponent has a park (those handy 81mm OBA work well for this). This really amounts to not setting up in woods. Nathanael -

This originally appeared after the post by the now infamous WombatGeneral. Trying to get that post off the page. Nathanael

Bald Crazy Room Locker? MadM

Hehehe!! I could say plenty, but I don't have to anymore. Oh yeah, third time today! YES!! YES!!! *Ahem!* Hi Mom! Hi Matt! Nathanael -

quote:
Originally posted by Urban Shocker: I am working on a campaign which will encompass a 22 x 22 km section of land. Each sector map is 1 sq. km. What should be the unit limit for that kind of area. The only thing I found on the subject was in a book called "Against the Panzers" which states that an American battalion covered 1-5 km depending on the situation. Does this seem reasonable?

Not exactly sure if this helps, but some general numbers for ya: Regt: 2-4km Batt: 1-2km Comp: 0.5(?)-2km It's not so much frontage as depth of the formation. Are BTS 's workers ,in fact, "umpa-lumpas"?
von Murrin replied to Amidst_Void's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Very nicely put, and how true, too. The funny thing is that we as 'gamers always find something that needs to be tweaked/fixed. It struck me the other day that we have this near-perfect game (a miraculous achievement in itself), and we demand more. Now, I have nothing against the "bit closer to heaven" philosophy, but I think we have to give credit where it's due. Not that we don't, but, for BTS, more is better. Let's face it: anybody else would have given up by now. Thanks BTS - I've never had more fun and less frustration before. -
Why not answer, it 'll be interesting - I think.

Wow, 2 from Minneapolis, 1 St. Paul (patron saint of lost drivers ), and... ME! RE: Original post. I think more people (including me) are using exotic troops/mixes because all of us went vanilla right away. What I mean is that many players are looking for a challenge or something different to mix it up a little and keep the game as fresh as when we started. Example: I got bored the other day and played a QB. Wanna know what I set up? Too bad 'cause here you go. 1500pts, night/heavy fog, village, AI Polish Airborne, and German attack. Me? I took Gebirgsjagers. It was really different, really fun, and really humiliating. Nathanael

Your favorite vehicle in CM is?
von Murrin replied to Herr Kruger's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Easily the Hetzer. Unless you're talking purely cosmetics. Then I'd have to say the Hotchkiss cause they're just sooo cute! Nathanael -
Nice. You know, without textures, it looks somewhat like a Merkava (sp?). Nathanael

Stick a fork in it--this Hetzer mod is done!

Ahhh, there it is. Oh, I definitely want that. Nice work. Nathanael -

The pic doesn't want to load all the way. I do like the corner I saw however. I'd love to test it out. Nathanael -

quote:
Originally posted by JasonC: StuG were not organic to FJ divisions. Both FJ and Luftwaffe field divisions, like all infantry divisions, did have a divisional AT battalion, which usually had towed PAK but sometimes had 1 company of StuG or Marder, or one of each. In addition, there were a few - very few - higher level StuG formations that were part of the Luftwaffe ground forces, and designated "FJ". Just like army StuG brigades, these were independent battalion-sized units (called "brigades" as a legacy of the old artillery unit size designations StuGs came from) at the corps or army level, used to support this or that line infantry division. They seem to be the source of the CM StuG availability.

Thank you for clearing that up. Nathanael
