1. Heh, nice coincidence. I'm in the middle of The Second World War by Keegan and I'm reading about that right now. Appearently those ops were particularly brutal. Nathanael
2.
quote:
Originally posted by Patgod: 1/2 of the squad gets the mg42, the other half gets the sheep. you would think both sides would be happy, but the larger half(with the mg42) of the squad really misses the sheep.

Oh, that explains it. No, wait! It's the sheep that deserted! Nathanael
3. Your Volkssturm are deserting one at a time. Nathanael
4. Wait 'til the fools get close and squeeze the trigger. Nathanael
5. Hehehe. Yeah!! I had no idea you could do that! I tried it with some poor ground-pounders and gave up when it didn't work. I know what I'm doing tomorrow. Nathanael
6.
quote:
Originally posted by Pud: [QB]My question is, in the game setup the Fallschirmjager can access Stugs!! does this mean they worked out a way to get these vehicle to drop zones (gliders?) or are they listed as being available for some other reason?[QB]

This is coming strictly from memory so don't take it as gospel, but they are organic to the division. After the high losses on Crete, Hitler forbade any further airborne operations. What that did was turn the FJ divs into crack, auto weapons-heavy infantry divs. I don't know when, but the Stugs were added to the FJ divs as AT/infantry support. Nathanael
7. Grrrr... That's just plain weird. I've never had anything like that happen before. Maybe the best solution, if the players find it to be a point of contention, is to ask them to resolve it as they see fit. If that doesn't work, it looks like a re-match. I say this because there must be some mitigating factor that caused the VL to become/stay German, but the American player can say with valid cause that he won. Maybe this helps?
8. Heh, what a coincidence. I have this nifty little (well, not really little) map book from West Point. I think it was for students as it doesn't look like a reference source. It has all the same WWII maps listed at that site. Good maps though, and, if you don't have a copy of my Nifty Little Book of WWII Maps , it'll be a good resource site. Nathanael
9. I've noticed this before too. The best explanation I've been able to come up with is that there seems to be three factors that determine control. 1. Distance. Maybe even as far as 100m if the other two factors permit is all that is needed to control a VL. Closer is always better but not always enough. 2. LOS. If you don't have it (to the VL), you have to be within 50m or so to vie for control. 3. Force. Last but not least, the side with the dominant force always seems to have the most powerful impact on control. It seems that having a much larger force is the predominant factor in VL control to the extent of vastly reducing the impact of the other two factors. They do however, work in concert. If you can maximise all three it seems to win VL's for you all the time. Hope I didn't just add to the confusion. Nathanael
10. You may all lay your claims, but if anyone's name should be included, it should be MINE!!! What could lend more to realism than a German-Irishman?!
11. As has been said, you cannot target sound contacts, but can target generic contacts. What probably happened is your troops/tanks/whatever opened fire as soon as it changed from sound to generic contact. This is more of an environmental effect of the FOW system than anything else. TQ has an effect, but this happens mostly in heavy fog, night/fog, or especially in night/heavy fog. You'll see it sometimes in night or rain. One of the clearest examples of this was when I was playing a QB in night/heavy fog and a sound contact appeared 20m-30m behind a Stuart of mine. The crew freaked out and opened up resulting in a KO. Later some ground-pounder or other walked by and the "tank" contact became a KT! I laughed so hard I almost choked.
