1. Ted, Love the thread title. It's ummm...unique.
 2. As per the title says, I can't figure out how to scroll without using the scroll bar. I've apaprently done it twice, but I don't know how I did it, where by just moving the mouse up and down, the webpage scrolled. I just can't figure out how I activated it. I've tried everything I can think of, but to no effect. Any help would be appreciated. I've got a Microsoft Intellimouse with the grey wheel in the middle of the 2 buttons.
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by lcm1947: Hey thanks Manx for the update. Very nice looking mod and I shall go d/l it. From just the picture it looks very detailed and I really like that color. Good job Marcus and thank you.

Isn't that camo just Gordon Molek's Hasty Camo version of Fernando's PzIV, but with the 'Winds' AA Gun sheilds camoed the same?
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by lcm1947: Just for grins I pit 3 Pershings against one Jagpanther. You are correct that Jagpanther is tough. But the Pershing did knock it out after firing 10 shells and the Jagpanther failed to kill any of the Pershing but this actually was at 1200 meters. But never the less it took 10 hits before dying. I was surprised that it didn't knock out any of the Pershings but on a second go around it did kill one Pershing before dying itself. I'm be a little more respectful around them in games.

I did a test with JgPanthers the other day. I had 5 Elite JgPanthers against 24 M4A3 Shermans. Starting engagement range was like 1300 meters, IIRC. I gave "Hunt" orders to all 5 JgPanthers. After about 15 rounds, they had knocked out all Shermans. The only casualties were one JgPanther being immobilized I think and maybe one with gun damage. The JgPanther's 88mm High-Velocity gun is really the best gun in the game next to the King Tiger's.
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Mace: Unless of course, you live in the Southern Hemisphere, in which case it will be Summer of 2001 - early 2002. (with a *SHEESH* directed towards russellmz)

And you wonder why you drive on the left side of the road. I got it! Since you are down under, you're actually seeing things upside down, therefore you're actually driving on the right side, but on the underneath side. Or somefink like that! But anyway, I would have a hard time adapting to a summer in December thru February.
 6. CM2 or CMBB (Barbarossa to Berlin) will be using basically the same engine as CMBO, but it will feature some enhancements such as new types of terrain and as you said, new types of buildings. It is of course a game concerning the Eastern Front. As far as some of your questions... Backward compatibility....not really but BTS may update CMBO to CMBB standards if possible. But that's a big maybe. Individual men representation.... Nope, see screenshots of CMBB at CMHQ. Same ol' 3 figures per squad and 1 figure per weapons team. Customized TO&E....nope, again, each unit and it's make-up are all highly researched. The only thing you'll be able to change is their ammo loadout.
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Van_Gogh: Where the hell did my HE shells go???

Up the wazzu maybe? LOL, actually, I don't know. I don't play Operations enough to really notice ammo changes between battles.
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by kump: Cubbies Phan, How can I explain? If its something you are used to, you probably wouldn't notice. But having 3dfx 4xAA, it was something I quickly and easily noticed when I went to GeForce3. What I mean by texture swim is that it doesn't look like AA is being applied to textures, only to the 3D edges. I could be wrong. Really noticed on CM city cobbled streets and other things. Obvious in SFC as well. I do believe the GeForce2 AA is done the same way as the GeForce3. Now you can debate it and say you don't agree. But as an owner of both the NVidia card and 3dfx card, I have a side by side comparison.

OK, difference noted. But I was just under the assumption that bad textures were just that. Bad textures. I mean really though, how does FSAA "smooth out" as you say bitmapped images? It would seem to me that it would blur the pixels together a bit because doesn't FSAA in effect CRT scan the screen multiple times for one frame of animation? Actually maybe that's why the paint jobs on some mods look better out of game than they do in-game. Becuase in-game, they become a little blocky, if you know what I mean where they look much clearer in say like a paint program.
 9. Out of curiosity, what exactly do you mean that textures swim? I have a 64MB Geforce2 GTS and the only problems I see with graphics are is that open-toped vehicles like halftracks and vehicles like Hummels and Marders have problems. Like the textures around the outside edge that cover the open-air part of the vehicle turn into verticle or diagonal sections.
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Adam Lloyd: You know, we could go for some more original thread announcement titles

I second that. Especially since you can never really tell if its an old one or a new one.
 11. Yeah, sometime FB's attack at the most inopportune times where you've actually advanced too far and your troops are now in the midst of the enemy troops.
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Soddball: Those guys in the first picture look badly constipated. Guess loo paper was rationed too.

LOL! I was actually thinking they looked a little bloated due to "that time of the month".
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Pvt. Ryan: Will the creators of future mods please be kind enough to include an expiration date with their mods so we know for how long we can expect to use them? That way we can avoid the trouble of downloading mods that have a very limited shelf life, or we can have the opportunity to archive them before they expire. All of the masters do this. The next time you are in an art gallery take the time to examine the back of the artwork and you will see these expiration dates. And as a public service I would like to alert you all that the Mona Lisa is due to expire on 5/30/02, so you better hurry if you haven't seen it yet. Davinci hasn't put out any quality work for a while, so it's just as well.

ROTFLMAO! Now that's the best post on this whole thread!
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by ParaBellum: OK. Could everybody take a deep breath? Come on, it's not that hard. All is quiet...I'm am calm...peace.... And now alltogether: "Ommmmmmmmmm..." Hey, you there! Relax! Yes, you ! OK, let's do it together again: "Ommmmmmm!" Feel better?

Shut up. We're having a nice little discussion here.
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by tiborhead: I think I can explain all this hostility that's been floating around here lately. Ahem... here goes... People are just a little moody because they're waiting for CM:B2B to come out.

You know, you're probably right. I was thinking of this just a few days ago. IIRC, this same "tension" was apparent last June right before CMBO was officially released. Playing Valley of Death for the 100th time does something to ya.
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Priest: OH PUHLEASE Slappy here is an idea! You obviously upset the man so issue an apology. Maybe you did not do anything wrong but the "manly" thing to do would to simply say "ya know what buddy I am sorry, I don't feel I did anything wrong but I never wanted you to leave" See was that so hard instead of pulling some dialogue that can be viewed as demeaning. It does not matter what anyone says or states about discussion or argument what does matter is that someone was obviously hurt by an incident and you just passed up on an occasion to help heal it.

Priest, May I suggest reading this quote from Steve.
quote:
BTW, I put rude critics and blind suck-ups in the same class in terms of feedback value. Neither will help improve whatever it is you are working on. The former just gets you mad, the latter just strokes your ego. Neither are examples of good, critical feedback. However, if I have to be subjected to one more than the other...

Sucking up a bit, my friend?
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Tiger: I'm sorry I didn't know or remember BTS's position on casualty kill-markers but I certainly don't think it required the response it got from some of the regulars on this forum who treat people like dirt to fulfill some need to feel superior on a forum.

Well you couldn't have. You weren't around at the time when the Gold Demo suddenly showed up with the dead body casualties marker. In the Beta Demo, the squads just simply disappeared. BTS put the current "marker" in for basically visual reference that a squad had expired and to later check AAR stats. It was never meant to supply that FPS or "Myth-type" blood and gore state that you were apparently wanting to mod. This very issue was discussed to death in May 2000. IIRC, you didn't appear until sometime in the Fall. The "argument" insued because members like Aitken and Slapdragon tried telling you this, but you wouldn't accept it as being elitist posting to boast their egos.
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Rommel22: I don't blame tiger a bit. I don't think he left becuase of that one incident. People have been flming him before. For the mods he put out. some smart alec always came along and said the mods sucked an so and so. Tiger tried to improve it, but some people keep b*tching at him telling him the mods were poor. Most of the people saying this to tiger didn't even create mods. He got pissed and left and stopped doing mods. So when the "blood" thread came around I think thats what finnaly made him leave. that was the final straw, IMO.

However the difference was that the people that were critiquing his mods were telling him how to improve them, but Tiger refused to listen. It was like it was Tiger's way and nothing else. His actions then turned me off to his mods. I do however use his last PzIVE Tiger mod as it *is* the best he ever did. I don't know how he created it, but it sure was different than his earlier attempts.
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Same thing happened when another modder was rightly slapped around for having downloaded a pirated copy of Combat Mission. He took his ball and went home too, and I can tell you I do not miss him at all. Steve

Now I may be wrong on this, but if memory serves, the person you're referring to and Tiger maybe one in the same age group, so that may explain the whole thing.
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Slapdragon: The above posts strikes a number of issues. There is the issue of intellectual discourse versus anti-intellectual elements, of how deep discussions are "allowed" to get before the peanut gallery pipes in, and the issue of censoring posts because they may cause intellectual debate.

This has no reflection on this post in question, but the part about censoring posts because they may lead to intellectual debate is very interesting. We, on this Forum don't know how good we have it. On other forums posts that invoke thought and debate are usually locked down quickly. These forums are usually those that deal with twitch crowds in the RTS genre or FPS genre. In quickly find myself bored with a forum that only contains one line posts of how cool or shotty something is. I recently joined the Empire Earth Forum and I opened with a nice long post similar to what is about an average post on here. So, I find this forum at least to be a good way to learn things other than that the Ultra Heavy Uber Tank should have 100 hit points instead of just 80.
 21. Now before you all jump on this post, I'd like to say that I didn't read the entire thread in question, but I did read the first 2 pages of it. At that point I had heard everything that has already been stated before. OK, with that said, and I don't know if Tiger had addressed it later in the thread, but IIRC, David Aitken (I think) asked Tiger for what reason he wanted a moddable casualty bitmap. Did Tiger ever respond to this question? or did he continue to argue about piddly quotes from other posts? If so then I'm not surprised the thread got as long and nasty as it did, because IIRC, Tiger never seemed to listen when people would try to tell him something that was obviously the truth about whatever. For instance, the age ol' argument about his mods and dpi. So with that, what was the final outcome of the thread?
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Panzerman: One problem CM3 is Africa/Italy and CM4 is Early war Poland/France ect. This has been brough oup about 10,000 in the last year. Well not that many but thats what it feels like.

Jesus Rob, he said he was a newbie. He had no way of knowing that it has been discussed before.
 23. I was just wondering on the progress on this pack?
 24. Try here at CMHQ. The mod includes options for regular M7 and for M7B1 Priests, namely in their hull fronts. Also includes winter versions as you asked for.
