1. I actually like the two overcast skies there. 'Bout the best ones I've seen so far. The one with the cumilous (sp?) clouds is also great too.
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by redwolf: In ladder games, you see lots of StuH and if you don't nail them, your infantry is in big enough trouble to turn the whole game.

This is why I rarely play QB PBEM games. You can pretty much count on a certain few vehicles. Maybe this will be better in CM2 with a much wider time span and vehicle choice.
 3. Tom, the text in the mods section disappears after everything loads. I can still barely see it as it is a white over a white background.
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Four Stringer: Wow! Those look great! The "o" team (Marco & Fernando) come through again! I can't wait to get 'em. Mod Manager users don't despair! With a little work, the "fullpack" (and all other mods) can be made MM compliant. Don't settle for the "plainpack." Get ALL of these excellent options. If you already know how to do this, forgive me, and stop reading here. If not, here's how: First, make sure you have a bmp listing so you know what you're working with. Here is a good place to get one if you don't already have it. Combat Missions: BMP List Dowload the full-pack mod and unzip it in a temp folder of your choice. Then, for this particular mod, I'd make a folder called "M8 Grhnd," and subfolders which correspond to the different options (US, LowVis, FF, etc) and extras (A/C recognition panels, etc). Next, identify which bmp's are common to all options. These usually will be apparent as they will have no "extension" to the bmp name: ie. 1234.bmp instead of 1234_lowvis.bmp These commom bmps should be placed in EVERY options specific folder, but NOT the extras folders. Next, copy option/extras-specific bmps into the appropriate folder. Once you are sure they are in the right place, rename them by eliminating the "extension" 1234_cav.bmp becomes 1234.bmp. Basically, we are placing complete bmp set for these vehicles in each folder options-specific folder; the extras folders will usually have only one or two bmp’s in them. MM loads these after the options folders have been loaded.. The bmp names should be the same in every folder, but the contents of each bmp will be different. So, now we have a folder named M8 Grnhnd, which has subfolders filled w/bmps. I’d next copy any jpg’s into the main folder, as these will be used to make “previews” in MM. These jpg’s should be the only loose files in this folder. All the bmps should be in their respective sub-folders. That’s it! Some cutting, pasting, re-naming, and we have a MM compliant mod. Now, just open the MM program, and follow the instructions included to “create” this new mod. Oh, you can delete the batch files and icons as these are not needed w/MM. [ 06-11-2001: Message edited by: Four Stringer ]

Gee, seems much easier just to use the batch files. Copy all files into the BMP folder--once you figure out what sort of options you want to use--then set up the shortcuts and you're done.
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by AndrewTF: This mod is NOT a repaint of the stock texture. All of my mods are created from scratch, using the finest materials available. Seriously, I created every texture either from color or b/w photographs of real equipment or by painstakingly rendering it in Photoshop. Not only are the "belts and stuff" all new, but so is everything else, and in hi-res to boot. The camo does represent the same autumn oak leaf pattern as in the original CM.

OK, fair enough. Which in this case, I'll be anxious to try it out. Just grabed your FJ uniform and it's pretty cool.
 6. Ummm, call me crazy, but isn't that just a slight repaint of the stock textures? Or has the gear belts and stuff been improved?
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by David Aitken: However, cliffs can be very closely approximated in CM by placing two adjacent tiles of greatly differing elevation, and using the 'rough' terrain on the resultant slope.

Very true, but I think after the engine rewrite, I believe that we definately need a better looking rocky mountain slope looking tile as we're going to be fighting in Italy, Sicily, Greece, and North Africa were there are a lot of rocky surfaces. So what I'm saying is that I think a mountain side tile needs to be made for mountains. I'm kinda shocked that the DFDR team didn't make the rough tile look more like a rocky mountain side. Instead they stayed with the scattered rock look like we have in CMBO originally.
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by MrSpkr: A little more grass, a little more brown to the water. Some reeds rising out of the marsh would be nice, too.

Umm, aren't the reeds just part of the tree files? Anyway, this would be great as I use your water. Been wanting another marsh based off of "Kevin's Watery Marsh" for a while. [ 06-10-2001: Message edited by: Cubbies Phan ]
 9. CMOTD, Just wondering what file or image you used for the rear of the upper superstructure? The Panther turret rear?
 10. I know it's too early, but being that CM3 will most likely be under the CMII engine, there is one terrain feature that must be accounted for. The cliff and/or gully. In order for desert and mountainous terrain such as Italy and such to look right, there needs to be a special textured cliff tile or...oh what's that term they used in WaW: Operation Crusader for areas where there was sudden rocky drop-offs? Anyway, I know this would take a rewrite of the engine to put in such special terrain features so that's why I'm saying CM3 and not CM2. Besides, there weren't many rocky mountainous areas in which the Eastern Front was fought in, so we wouldn't need such terrain.

 12. MrPeng, Your hate of mods sounds like a personal problem to me. For one to hate the better-ment of a media sounds like to me that a DOS-nut is on the loose. So if you don't like mods that re-imagetize the battlefield into something more realistic looking, then I feel for ya when you try to play CM:BB with better graphics and VRAM requirements. Are you wanting to go reload CMBO graphics into CMBB because you can't stand to see better textures than those 64x32 files? For I don't understand why people make such a big hoopla over wanting better graphics (eyecandy) in a game, and then when some are available, they curse cause their lowly ol' P2-233 with a 4MB video card won't run them. Upgrade you Penger! I'm tired of all the crying. IMO, and Peng's post pretty much prooves it, is that that hating the hi-res mods kind of insults the modder. So you don't wanna use Fernando's new Panther G-Late because you still use the PINK-ISH stock Panther G-Late, then fine. Don't go insulting the artist for trying to make a good game better.
 13. Be sure and make sure that your server provider can handle all the traffic when you revamp the site.
 14. Tom, I've been meaning to ask you this, so..... Why does the text on your site flash??? I can't read that fast!
 15. OK, as Modern Era I mean anything within the past 300 years. I pick Ulysses S. Grant. Why? Gen. Grant was probably the fore-father of modern American Military Doctrine. Gen. Grant had the mentality of to win a war, you must attack the enemy head on and do it quickly. The objective, of course, being to totally destroy the enemy army. Some misleading myths about Grant's generalship was that he tended to send his troops into a meat grinder. However, the facts and figures refute this myth by showing that his casualty rate was far less than Lee's casualty rate and Lee was on the defensive. A lower casualty rate on the attack? Yes. See what I mean. And one is supposed to attack with at least a 4:1 odds. Says something about the quick and decisive attack, doesn't it? Grant's total strategy was to cut-off and destroy the Confederate Army. Taking cities didn't really mean a whole hellava lot. Other Federal Generals at the time had a conservative approach to fighting the Civil War and that's why the Union took a beating early on in the War. Those Generals tended to base their strategies on manueverist tactics where they would just move their troops around and not to engage the enemy unless absolutely necessary. Well how can you win a war like that? You can't. Grant's style of leadership worked its way to American Military Doctrine. Spanish-American War, WWI, and WWII. Gen . Patton was the prime example of Grant's mentality. Good ol' "Ol' Blood & Guts", attack the enemy, wade into the enemy, spill his guts, etc, etc.. Taking a German city didn't mean jack-****. Destroying a German Division meant something. In Vietnam, the Army actually had big plans on how to fight and win the war, however the politicians got in the way with that one. So who's y'all's pick?
 16. Sniff, sniff. You smell that? That smells like sarcasism. Carry on.
 17. Well Michael, if it really preturbs you that much, try getting a sense of humor. Anyway, they backed up that find by saying that it kind of explains why Hitler never allowed a full medical evaluation. I mean he already had jet black hair. (Not blonde like the Arian race was supposed to have.) So having only one testicle would have really put a damper on being the leader of the Reich.
 18. After catching the final few minutes of a History Channel documentary on called: Hitler: the Final Chapter. The official autopsy reports discovered, or actually lack thereof, of one one of Hitler's testicles. Hitler didn't have a left testicle, people! LOL! No wonder the man was ****ed in the head. I would be too if I only had one nut. Brings a new meaning to the reply "Nuts!", doesn't it? LOL! [ 05-12-2001: Message edited by: Cubbies Phan ]
 19. Ummm, I don't get it. Is the unit portrait supposed to be Patton or did you just rename the TC?
 20. All graphics files must be within the "Bmp folder", anywhere else and they will not show up. Mods like Marco's Shermans need to have a batch file run before you can see them. They have file extensions on the numbers. CM only reads the numbers, if it contains extraneous stuff, it doesn't use those. The batch files automatically rename those files with the extensions so that the mod may be seen. Also, it is always a good idea to unzip the mods into a folder of their own before you install them. Because you never know what is within the zip file. There may be other folders within the zip file file and tyou'll need to navigate through the internal stuff and copy over what is needed. Otherwise your bmp folder will start getting 'readmes', preview jpgs, and all kinds of other crap that is not needed. So just to sum up, unzip all mods into temp folder, examine and copy over necessary bitmaps and batch files, etc. The batch files need to be in the root Cmbo folder. You can then make shortcuts and assign user made icons for them and place them in a desktop folder for easy access. Hope that helps.
 21. AussieJeff, You didn't want to wait for Marco's new Greyhound and Maximus/Rick's truck along with Magua's halftracks to desert-ize?
