  1. OMG, just started playing a QB with this...yea, I know it took a while.

This may be one of my favorite modern mods ever....I actually got screen shots of the Javelins firing at some advancing BMPs...this mod TOTALLY changes my outlook on night combat, which I normally HATE...if you haven't tried this, you totally should...so freakin' cool.

Ok managed to get the North Koreans switched to the Ukarinian side. Reworked all uniforms, vehicles and silhouttes as well as got the voice files switched over. I may add to those later. Also reworked some of the fall foilage, hopefully will give a good representation of the season. First map is coming along so the project is slowly grinding forward.

Still undecided about the South Korean presence in the campaign. The uniforms look decent but not being able to use the Korean voice files and faces is a bummer. Thinking about keeping them involved in the storyline but not actually making a apperance and just use US units. The campaign will take place in one part of the the country and is a small part of the bigger storyline so that option has some merit. Thoughts on this are appreciated. I really want to give a realistic experience to the player (at least as far as the game engine allows) so would it be a viable option to not include the SK's visually?

Here is the link to the new screenshots of the NK uniforms and vehicles.

Very nice switch to UKR...looks much more authentic.   Love the scenario and building mods too.

I think it's a great idea and I didn't mean to be discouraging, but I do think you might get a better capability match using CM:SF.....I'd suggest that P'okp'ung-Ho is a lot closer to a T-62M than a T-72B3 in actual capability terms.

But, by switching to UKR forces for the NKPA, I assume that means T-64 and T-64BV can be used...probably as close as you can get to T-62 with the CMBS engine.

I agree UKR probably will be a better match for NKPA...as for terrain...if anyone has played dragonwynn's Mountains of Allah campaign (highly recommended :D) I wouldn't worry about maps.  They will be good.

Yea ROKs have their own versions of US equip...but I think it will be close enough.  The ROK K1 and K1A1 are close enough to an Abrams.

  4. Well, all I can say is download and try out the Demo....it shows you everything you need to know.

Then you can decide.  The main advantage to these games is their almost infinite re-playability...both through Quick Battles (my personal favorite) and the huge amount of community produced scenarios and campaigns.

Well worth the money...they are pretty much the only "computer" games I play.

  5. Oh...My....Word...how have I never seen this MOD before?

    :o

This is outstanding!  I normally hate night battles...ok, still hate night battles, but I will hate them a whole lot less with this mod.  Especially modern night battles where I know I should be able to see things better.  (Of course, being a complete knucklehead I never noticed the ALT B and ALT M options before, DUH, been playing these games for over 10 years and never noticed those,)...

SO what exactly does the WAR MOVIE mode do?  The manual doesn't have a lot to say...ALT B is pretty self explanatory...clearly I need to play around with these setting more...

  6. So playing the first scenario (yea I know, still)--Into the Crucible.  WOW, the map here is totally immersive...an awesome urban combat map...I think I lost a squad or two for a minute down an alley... :o...and so...much destruction.

This battle (at least for now) appears to be an infantry slugfest, so I am holding my own...BUT, damn there are a lot of Russians...and they just keep coming....

I'm sure there is a nasty surprise here (a dragonwynn trademark ) ...but we shall see.

Having a blast so far...gotta just keep plugging the holes.

  7. Eh, well, Atkinson may not be for everyone..and I definitely did not get the impression he hero worshipped Mark Clark.

However, D'Este has written several great books on this theater in addition to Fatal Decision.

Bitter Victory: The Battle for Sicily 1943,

World War II in the Mediterranean, 1942–1945

James Holland also has a great book on the campaign from May 1944 to the end of the war called Italy's Sorrow

I have long advocated a CM Vietnam game but have since come to a similar conclusion. CM just wouldn’t be able to do it justice so why invest effort and time when there are other areas that could be done..... Fulda Gap! :D

Yea, I saw that pitch for CM:Fulda Gap...damn, I'd buy that...you could make a whole campaign based off of Team Yankee...  :D

All of his stuff is just awesome.  I have an in progress @dragonwynn campaign on nearly all my games.  They are uniformly infuriating and excellent at the same time.

However, one question, oh great campaign maker...do you not own CMFI?  I don't think I've ever seen a CMFI campaign?  Just wondering....;)

Believe me, it feels like a completely different game.  So many things have changed that you can't even begin to go through them all - stupid little things like walls with gaps that weren't in CMSF.  Map development will be a whole lot different with all the new capabilities.  Moving flavor items with alt-click.  Moving way points after you've placed them.  Then you get into things like target briefly which didn't exist.  BF reworked almost everything so yeah you have to buy it again at a discount.  You thought it should be free?  Damn I need you to come over and work in my yard digging trenches if you think labor should be free.  Let me know when to expect you.

The big items are ToEs, models etc and ALL the CMSF content that is available.  However don't be fooled. the small things are what will catch you probably more than the big items.  Try building a map with the same level of detail as the later titles and you'll quickly find yourself frustrated by what you can't do that you take for granted now.  Ooh did someone say overlays?

I get that everybody has their favorites and we all want our favorites at the top of the list, but those that revel in CMSF have waited the longest for an update over any other title.  You've been waiting 3 years since CMBS release for a module?  4 Years since Gustav line for CMFI?  It's been over 7 years since the NATO module and NONE of the version improvements have been applied to the BEST CM game.  So get the hell back in line and wait your turn.  If CMSF isn't your fav then so be it, but don't crap on those of us who have waited all this time as the LAST title to get 4.0.

You know what the title will have.  4.0 and all the stuff that made CMSF what it is.  Not to your liking?  No one is making you buy it.  However if like me you find CMSF as the most appealing game of the CM titles, then you really really want CMSF2.  Even at full price it would be a deal.

Keeping in mind of course that when BFC ported CMSF1 over to the Mac, they offered the total bundle to all us Mac guys for about $55 which was a bargain I happily paid after spending almost $100 for the PC game and modules.  So, yea, I am very excited about this.  If you like CMBS, trust me, you will like this game as well...I mean, now it's almost a historical game with all the Iraq and Afghanistan based content...and mods.  :D

I have CMSF and all modules. I paid it once. Now i have to pay it again to get new engine only? Really would like to know what else do we get. Thats my question.

New QB system (my personal favorite)...improved Engine...almost ALLLL the CMSF content to play...yea the same equipment and such, but I think there will be enough new game play to make it worth it.  And maybe some new scenarios and campaigns from our trusty group of designers. ;)

I actually bought CMSF twice (once for PC when I had to use Bootcamp on my MAC  and then the full Mac version)  WELL worth the price twice.  It's in my top 3 CM titles.

  12. I have a large group of CMFI QB maps that were ported over to CMBS...and also a pretty good group of CMFB QB maps.  but only a couple of CMBN...as I recall there were a LOT of unique features (bridges, etc) in the CMBN MG and CW modules that made those very tricky to port...also lots of CMRT maps ported to CMBS too...those are at least the same basic geography.

Also, keep in mind that there are mods and scenarios available for Stalingrad, and Winter 43/44/45 on cmmodiii/greenasjade.net

Yes, I HIGHLY recommend the Stalingrad mod...the team that built that did a fantastic job.  AND, dragonwynn made an awesome campaign (Rattenkrieg) to go with it.
