  1. Well, I always have huge problems with this soda can (heavily armored soda can). In fact I am much more effective with the good old Mk IV... And that´s just because overconfidence. It is really difficult not to feel an unstop pable juggernaut when you take a KT to the battle, and this is from my point of view one of its risks. It is really powerful, so when I take this thinguie and try to use its 88 I always become a bit careless. And you know what happens when you do this.... BOUM. Damm, I forgot that I had a Sherman in my flank... When you made a mistake with a Pz IV, well, you waste a tank, but is not many points worth. But losing a KT is quite different. A lot of points go away with it.... So when you buy one of those, be as paranoid as when you are using any other axis tank. Really. Well, use it as it has been already said (long range hunts, nightmare, etc...) but be overly cautious. One last thing: poor armour quality. The "s*** happens" factor of weak spots are quite rare, but... you get one when you really do not expect one, and just when everything depends of the last gamble of the big cat. Even a Stuart could get THE SHOT (a Stu killed one of my KT from 500 m. once, front shot!!!).
  2. The Leningrad symphony was indeed dedicated to the city, but the premiere was not in Leningrad. Shostakovich began to write it in Leningrad during the siege, but in October 1941 the soviets evacuated him, to let him finish it in a less risky place. The premiere was in Kuibyshev in March 1942, and was performed in Leningrad for the first time in August, the same year. Several musics had to be recalled from the front to play it, and in fact many of them were wounded ( and several dead ) the day it was first played. From... well, somewhere in my memory. Even the dates. I've read it somewhere recentlly, but I am too lazy to look it out. Don´t quote me... My memory is pretty good, not perfect....
  3. Why not just put the original hym of the Soviet Union, with the "oh holy Stalin lyrics" ? Well, anyway... it is a really cool battle hym.
  4. Man, good idea. I come from losing against and AI with tons of ubertanks....
  5. Just a quick question about the Churchills: Were they named after the prime minister? I always had the perception that he was not really beloved during the war (in fact he lost the election while in Postdam, a thing that always have stunned me as political scientist...). Maybe the name was after one the ancestors of the prime minister´s distinguished family, as Marlborough.... [ 04-20-2001: Message edited by: Blenheim ]
  6. I loss nearly half of my battles.... The AI is quite good defending, but not so good attacking really. And when I try a new scenario blindly, I sometimes get really badly beaten... Yeah, I am a not so superbowl player. Sue me....
  7. Ops... let´s see mine... Height or width? What is more importnat in members?
  8. With chemical weapons happened something similar to nukes... Nobody used them, because everybody was too afraid of the counteratack. Hitler was really against its use probably due to his WW I memories. Gas attacks were particulary terrifying, and he had images of mustard gas bombs in Berlin in his mind....
  9. Piece of advice requested: How can I use Elite troops effectively? What are the main advantages of elite? Why I should prefer those to masses of junk troops, directly taken from the kindergarden?
  10. I don´t know how real is this, really. In a 700 attack, me, the proud allied comander, was badly mauled by a huge amount of AI conscript troops. He outnumbered me in everything, including tanks (lone Sherm against two IV H and a half-track with the 75mm). It happens to me quite often. I don´t know, maybe I am not really good using elite troops, but... Is this usual? Everytime I go with the "dumb horde" kind of force selection the result is the same. Maybe is because I do not have any doubts of making "sacrifices" with my troops...
  11. Oh my god !!! A myth has been shattered to pieces. No ****ing corkscrew. Damm. Man, It is a really sad day. Now you'll tell me that Santa Claus does not exist... Man, I can believe it. [edit: spelling of corkscrew. I wrote cockscrew, whatever this means...] [ 04-10-2001: Message edited by: Blenheim ]
  12. OK, grognards ready.... shoot !!! Any Swiss regiments in WW II fighting along the germans? Volunteers, I mean. Swiss were "neutral" (read it as "bankers") during the war. Just curious if any of them joined any cause. BTW... (stupid questions ahead) were they dressed and armed as those funny vatican Swiss guards ? (long history, not really "army-like" dress) Did the carry their famous Swiss army knives? How could be the knife represented in a CMBO enviroment? Does the cockscrew makes any difference in combat?
  13. My god, this is almost a new Peng Challenge: Getting CMBO work in a 486 !!! OK, I go to my computer lab and try to put it in my 486 DX266@75 with 8MB RAM. Oh, my god... no CD ROM drive or network card.... OK, let me take my original CD and with ARJ, 300 floppies and a bit of time to waste I could do it.... Damm, I did install win 95 from floppies.... Let´s attach a spare 2 gigs HD to the 486 to handle all my mods. Wops, this needs some more floppies... I don´t have enough of them. Not High density, but wait, with the "hole trick" I could max the performance of those really old 720 Kb.... And if I move my 5 1/4 drive from one side to another.... I'll tell how it´s going....
  14. OK, I made a couple of mistakes withb arty.... 1. Shoot arty too near to my front troops. 2. Using the "Target Wide" order, so more chance to self mutillation... 3. I gave the order to the wrong spotter... 4. So I landed two huge 14" naval gun shells in my own infantry.... BOUM... no comments. I lost. ------------------ "We do not retreat... we advance to the back of the formation..." (brave new soldier)
  15. I think that "CM2: not a step back!!" is by far the best one. BTW, those soviets copied the Spanishy Civil war warcry "No pasarán", more or less...
  16. Oh, pleaseeeee... If I find any other American complaining about "how bad is our army", I'll send the Panthers in... please... Come on, the US armed forces are by far the best of the whole globe. No way to win them, anybody. Really anybody (Nukes not allowed) can put up a fight against US. So stop complaining. Since you lost Vietnam (Guerrilla warfare is the only Spanish apportation to modern war, BTW... yes, spaniard here) you really feel weak...
  17. Ok, some points... 1. For grognards and people talking about lack of balance: that game was one of those "let´s waste our time watching huge BOUUUMMMs everywhere" match. Nothing realistic, by any means. Just building up something completely unbalanced, a heavy fest.... I know, I made the mortal sin of being ahistorical and doing stupid things with glamorous ubertanks... Whatever . 2. I lost that match, of course.... but I was damm unlucky. Apart from the stuarts, I lost a JagTiger due to a Sherman 75 mm gun hit at 800 m.... A frontal hit. Imagine. 3. And yes, I prefer playing following the sacred conventions....
  18. Ohhh... yeah... I was kind of gamey at the 3 BFG cats at that part... But imagine how at any scenario 12 stuarts should work. I do that from time to time, and it's annoying for the German, really... "Hey, I got a Human/Stuart Wave attack!!!" And it's gamey. Imagine that you're inside on of those tanks, and somebody tolds you two lead 12 of them against a King Tiger, or whatever... Wowwwww. I'd like to hear the answer from the guy riding the Stu....
  19. Wooww... This seems the "CM in WW I" threat!!! (Western front, 1916, you grogs!!! )
  20. Rant here. OK, I love taking those small fast metal boxes when I play as allied, but this weekend I had enough. Playing with Germans in a nearly all armour fast QB (3000 points) my opponent got about 12 of them.... Imagine: Stuart Kamikaze rush, massive version, against my 3 KT. Yesh, I blow up 7 of the Stus, but... 3 KT gone !!!! Gamey!!! Gamey !!!! (crying in despair)
  21. come on, but tell the amount of victims. I was trying to get some advice of how to avoid this kind of I WW carnages, as well. Probably I am a hardcore attritionist, but... Well, I felt bad after the battle!!! Imagine... flattened town.... cratters and fire everywhere.... tons of corpses... and that haunting stadistics. Brrrrrr...
  22. OK. I had a small CM LAN party last weekend (4 computers, CM QB league) and one of the engagements was truly amazing. Let me explain.... It was a Allied Atack QB, 2000 points, medium sized map, combined arms, auto purchase. The victory flags appeared all concentrated in the middle of a small village in the "center-right" of the map. That damm place was surrounded with an awful lot of obstacles; from marshes to woods, in a quite confined place surrounded by hills. The attacker only had to possible paths to reach the flags; a road all surrounded by woods and a tight valley with several scattered trees. The computer gave to both sides and awful lot of infantry, tons of arty and several light armour, and a single Cromwell with green guys inside. Both players were rather crappy (I was the german one) At first I though "come on, easy win", but believe me, I´ve never seen a guy with such an amount of arty, and so much luck using it. He shot blindfolded 4 or 5 times, getting "bulls eye" with everything. But that´s a different thing. Although It was amazing that he bombarded my reserves, that where really far from any of the fronts... Well, doesn´t matter... Imagine.... Arty flying everywhere, tons of close range ambushes, firefights, squads anhilating each other inside buildings and all this stuff. All the engagements were really, really nasty, with lots of men down. As the battle progressed, we got in "blood lust mode", and we ended up kind of annoyed, as the objective of both sides was also eliminate as many enemy soldiers as possible... The outcome: Axis minor victory (I know, it should have been an easy win, but with "banzai" germans...) and a whooping ending stadistics.... more than two thirds of the allies went down, and more than half the krauts were butchered as well. Wow. The worst thing is I did not took any photos... but believe me, the battle was really, really nasty; more "Quake Arena" than CM. Any other similar experiences? What has been your bloodiest engagement?
  23. ****ty Albanians... Just kidding !!!!!!! Just Kidding !!!! (hide command... Blenheim is pinned down by the already shoot artillery barrage...) Ah, being politically correct... [This message has been edited by Blenheim (edited 03-18-2001).]
  24. ****ty... OK, my mistake. But I think that I am quite legitimated to use that word, as I am Spanish, and the military record of our contry is even WORSE than that guys across the sea. Well... about I WW. Agreed with the balkan observation. It's a shame that was kind of secondary, but probably is the most interesting theatre. Eastern front was a meat-grinder as the Western front, but quite mobile. Agreed also. But I do not remember any really interesting battles. Turkey... well, not counting the terribly complicated Gallipolli -don´t know much about it, sorry Aussies...- yes, interesting. But also not really important. I WW was not really too interesting in terms of subtle warfare, really... But it´s also true that in a small CM scale, even the Western front had some interesting parts. ------------------ "We do not retreat... we advance to the back of the formation..."
