1.
quote:
The ATO-41 could fire up to three times in every 10 seconds. Each shot took about 10 litres of gas mixture. The range of the flamethrower depended on the type of gas mixture: - 65 litres with 60% mazut and 40% kerosene; - 100 litres with kerosene-oil mixture.

100 LITRES or 100 METERS? .... its talking about range so I think they meant METERS but im not sure. It would be very cool if this flamethrower had a range of 100 meters
2. First off a HUGE thanks to Jon McGuire. The page is great! I like how he set it up so all you have to do is hit 'refresh' to generate a new battle, excellent! And also thanks to Madmatt and Panzer Leader for the compliments and comments. Panzer Leader, this is how the program chooses the type and type: First it chooses the type (Combined Arms, Infantry, Mechanized or Armor). Then it chooses the force. It will only choose a force that has units availible for that type. For example if the type is Combined Arms it will not choose American Airborne because they have no armor availible to purchase...etc. Fallschirmjaegers are included in the Armor catagory because they have Stug III's and Stug IV's availible. Granted not a much of a choice but they are tanks. If you guys think this is unrealistic I can drop them down to the Combined Arms catagory. Force Quality: Panzer Leader, your idea is a good one. I think we should change it to 50% regular 25% high or low. I have noticed people really dont like those low quality troops. If anyone else has any Ideas let me know. Email Addresses: Another great Idea from Panzer Leader. I love this one! You could set up a game in chat then enter each email address and what you get you get! I would also want to set up the program so it chooses which side you are going to play (axis or allies). I will contact Jon and we will work on this. I NEED FEEDBACK ON THIS: Lately I have played all my online games using the Random Generator and there is one problem I am having and Im not sure what the best solution is. The problem is 'lite trees' and 'open trees' terrain. Games with these 2 terrain settings are just not fun or challenging. There is so little terrain that the units have no where to manuever or hide - they just run to the nearist house (if there is one) and start shooting at each other. The games I have played with these settings have been short, bloody, and not much fun. My solution is to replace 'lite trees' and 'open trees' with 'moderate trees'. What this means is that 'moderate trees' will be selected 75% of the time and 'heavy trees' 25%. I have tested this out and it seems to work very well. The maps seem to be a lot more interesting with this change. Let me know what you think. ps my displayed name and sig where lost in the crash.
3. no prob. Ill email the .bas and a .txt file to ya. Ill send the email in about 5 min. George III
4. I wrote a random battle generator in Microsoft QuickBasic (DOS). I wanted to compile it into an executable so others here could try it but no luck. When I try to make an exe file it says it is missing the 'BC.EXE' file so it wont create the exe. I can still run the file as an '.bas' thru QuickBasic but I cant share it with anyone else I can send you the '.bas' file or a text file with the commands if you think you can make an '.exe' out of it. Below is a sample output if anyone is interested: -------------------------------------- Axis ------------ Infantry Army (Heer) ------------ Allied ------------ Mechanized Canadian ------------ Jan-45 Town Heavy Trees Small Hills Large Map Daytime Weather is Random -------------------------------- Please help if you can, thanks George III
5. Hi all, Just trying to find all the possible places to find opponents - so far I only have 2 - here and tournamenthouse.com - any others? thanks in advance, George III
6. Excellent idea James I am definatly going to play around with this method. I have always been frustrated with the a.i. just heading for the VL flags. In an ME you can just park on em and wait. I have tried some other things to get the a.i. to play a better game..... check out my topic in the general forum - "a good single player system" - I would be interested in what you think and any sugestions you might have to get better performance out of the a.i. thanks, George III
7. Wow great feedback Andrew, that is a good idea to change your troops to green and give the computer a +1 advantage. I think I'm going to do that from now on - Im also going to try your probe attack set-up later today. I also sent Biltong an email for that senario, thanks guys . I too am very frustrated with the way the a.i. handles armor in qb meeting engagements. I have played with the q.b settings and tried purchasing different force types for the computer. By using a small map I have found that it keeps the computers forces closer together and the armor doesnt get seperated from the infantry as much. Also if the terrain is more open and flat I will buy a couple of AT guns for the a.i.. If you guys have any Ideas to help the computer use armor in a meeting engagement I would like to hear them. I am also curious if anyone has found a particular force mix that the computer uses successfully against you. For example: I dont purchase artillary or halftracks for the computer because it doesnt seem to handle those well, hmmmm air strikes maybe? .... I also think its very important to choose the terrain settings in a random way (dice or cards) - this forces you to play on maps with terrain combinations you may not be used to. It also forces you to try and find units that the computer will be succesfull with on those maps. Thanks again, George III
8. There is another option availible when choosing units that you have not thought about: YOU choose the units for the a.i. and the computer chooses yours. This is more challenging then you might think. See my topic: "A good single player system". Give it a try and see if it helps. Cheers. George III
9. Tired of easily defeating the a.i. in quick battles? Try this single player system and see if it improves the computers chances. The basic idea is to set up a quick battle so that YOU purchase the units for the computer while allowing the program to randomly purchase your troops. You also use dice or cards to randomly determine the date and terrain. For example, if I want to play the allied side I would do the following: 1. Change the Type under both sides to UNRESTRICTED. 2. Under Axis change purchase units to ALLOW HUMAN 3. Change battle type to MEETING ENGAGEMENT 4. Force size to 1,250 points 5. Map size to SMALL 6. Roll dice or draw cards to randomly select the date. (important!) 7. click OK 8. Roll dice or draw cards to randomly determine map type, tree coverage, and hilliness. write down each one as you select it. (very important!) 9. click OK 10. Choose Allied and click OK 11. Purchase units for the computer based on the terrain that was selected.. ie.. more cover = more infantry..... more open = more armor etc..... 12. play game. The challenge here is two-fold. 1) find the right force mix for the computer and 2) Defeat that force with randomly chosen units that may or may not be right for the situation. Obviously a lot of other things can be varied but this system has worked very well for me so far. Let me know what you think. George III [ 04-22-2001: Message edited by: George III ]
