1. Damn, but that German camo is good! I couldn't even see the doggone vehicle!
2. Funny thing is, I can't find one either. Could it be that code names were passe at this point in the war? Certainly the plans were much more collaborative and dynamic in nature by then, less a product of Stalin and the Stavka setting out strategy to be followed to the letter, and more a working process which now included the more illustrious Front commanders in the planning.
3. Darn...I thought I was going to see something impressive or unusual! It's just a...car! Why didn't you buy a Fox or halftrack or something I would have bought? Oh, well, enjoy your wild youth! [ 05-09-2001: Message edited by: gunnergoz ]
4.
quote:
Originally posted by JasonC: [QB...whole projectile goes down the tube, smoothbore, medium caliber, fin-stabilized rocket...[/QB]

Jason, isn't it fair to say that a "rocket" continues to burn propellant past the point it leaves the laucher? A mortar round consumes all the propellant charge within the tube and depends upon the expanding gases in the tube to provide the thrust for the projectile. I would find it hard to agree that a mortar is a "rocket" in any sense.
5. Traditional West Point career officers seemed to detest the idea of special forces like Rangers and the 1SSF during the war years. I think it ran against their sense of "regular army" and offended them in that many such units had an elite but citizen-soldier type of attitude that often was a tad anti-authoritarian in the front ranks. The Rangers were terribly abused and misused, losing two of their battalions at Anzio due to mishandling. The Ranger "papa" was Col. William O. Darby, one of the Army's best infantry leaders. Unfortunately he died in action and the Rangers went orphan and were easy prey for their conventional enemies in the U.S. Army's general officer ranks.
6. Hey, who the heck do you think you are, you (*^%*%*^*&&^! Calling us out like that, implying that we're anything but reasonable, kind and tender human beings! Put this in your ^%#$&^%&% and stuff that up your )*&(*Y(*&. Besides that, your mamma dresses you funny! Angry bunch, my ()&(*&(&^*&%%, where's my uzi?...

BTW, Audie Murphy served in the 3rd Infantry Division, not the 36th, when he won his MOH.

In a town with 32,000 Camp Pendleton Marines for neighbors, there must be a hundred ball-and-anchor tattooed butts. Some of them are even female!
9. I like the text and color but have to agree that the blocks are distracting if not outright upsetting. Please find something more soothing to old eyes.
10. Paintshop Pro is fine software and the demo is free, but time-limited and so has a minimal utility unless purchased. I use it quite a bit. I also use Cpic for file viewing and management and for general art use it's tough to beat PhotoImpact, the third leg of my modding "tripod."
11. I wonder how the AI felt when the FIRST lucky shot from my M-18 whacked a KT some 500 meters away? "11000001111000111001010!"
12. I don't believe the issue is whether or not vehicles have the capability to cross fords, because it is an inherent design feature of virtually all military-specific vehicles. Rather, the issue is if CM is meant to replicate the tactical use of fords in combat. Most armies would have an engineer unit carefully survey and mark out lanes in even a shallow ford before sending high value AFV's accross it. The risk of bogging is too great and once bogged, the vehicles that managed to go on ahead then become isolated and unsupported. What's more, removing a bogged vehicle from a body of water is an order of magnitude more difficult for the wrecker crews. I think that this was a carefully thought out aspect of CM, calculated to keep combatants from throwing AFV's into situations that would truly be "gamey." If a scenario requires a ford accessible to vehicles, it can be simulated by careful use of an alternate terrain tile (like brush) inserted in the path of the waterway.
13. You got one of those emails too? Just kidding! Good for you and have fun!
14. Care to specify what patch belonged to an "all black unit?" All I recall is seeing patches of the 29th Infantry Division, which was most assuredly not a black outfit. BTW this was a FILM, not a time trip. I was amazed that Hollywood got anything near half right. All in all, I thought it was a fitting tribute and the generation of Americans watching it mostly wouldn't know a Garand from a cheeze-wiz anyhow. If viewing it gave them something to think about between their sittings with Jerry Springer and WWF, then it was worth it.
15. I vote for more variety in the T-34's, to reflect the different production runs and different qualities, especially armor flaws, etc. One generic T-34 just won't hack it. Another vote for the OT-34 also. Will we be seeing any of the AA trucks the Soviets were so fond of? [ 04-27-2001: Message edited by: gunnergoz ]
16. Does the Tropican Army have any tanks? Can they be modeled in CM2.22224.6? Please BTS do somefink!
17. Hasta la vista, buddy. Thanks for supporting my mods and have a great time this summer.
18. That game is a good example of corporate game development mindlessness. It was a botched rewrite of an obsolete engine and I have no idea what the hell they were thinking when they came out with it. Avoid it unless you have money to burn and time to waste. It didn't last on my HD long and so I have a nearly new copy for sale...hint, hint
19. OK, Tiger, so you probably tire of people gushing admiration and praise...so what? Here's my ADMIRATION AND PRAISE for your many wonderful mods. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! Nyaa, Nyaa...Yer mommy wears combat boots. (This little kudo for Tiger is suitably dolled up in pseudo-flame style currently in vogue)
20.
quote:
Originally posted by Vergeltungswaffe: The Wolverine is the British variant of the M-10, mounting a 17 lber. instead of the US 3" (76.2mm). Also, the M36B1 version, manufactured in a different plant than the M36 (GM maybe? I don't recall) was commonly known as the "Slugger".

Actually, the M36B1 version used the turret from the M36 mated to the hull of the M4A3. This version was being used in the Balkans very recently.
21. As I recall it was primarily for recognition from the air...it's not nice to have a friendly sturmovik slicing and dicing your tank columns! If memory serves me correctly, it was combined with markings (white cross?) on the turret roof. Any body else have info on this? [ 04-16-2001: Message edited by: gunnergoz ]
22.
quote:
Originally posted by Wilhammer: Nice, but how long will the Confederate battle flag be legal? It is being treated as a swastika by some in the US now. 23. Glad to be the first to say: Very, very cool! Thanks, Juju, you've done some really nice work there.
24.
quote:
Originally posted by Maximus: I did I guess? Anyway, the main reason why the M1A1 Abrams version came out was so that it could incorporate the same 120mm smooth-bore gun as the Leopard 2 does so that the two tanks could use interchangable (same) ammo.

Actually, Maximus, the Abrams was originally contemplated to carry either an experimental British 110mm gun or the German 120mm job. I think gun performance ended up carrying more weight than the issue of interchangeable ammo, although it wound up being a nice bonus when both nations ended up with the same gun.
