  1. That sucks about the Stug bogging. IIRC, there used to be a chance with the CM1 engine of the vehicle becoming "unstuck". Is this possible in CM2? Ithikial is playing a cautious opening game. A video would certainly be welcome.
  2. Fair enough. Well played, Sublime. Gratz, Jammersix.
  3. Yep, you got an ass whuppin. Now rub some dirt on it and walk it off. Thanks, both of you. It was entertaining (and sometimes confusing).
  4. From what I can tell so far, with the new forum software you cannot have text and videos/pictures in the same post. Weird.
  5. I've had similar experiences the times I've used onboard mortars for indirect fire, to the point that I quit bothering to try, unless I assign them a pre-planned arty mission during the setup phase. Direct fire FTW with onboard tubes.
  6. @Sublime Ahhh, that made more sense. Thanks. I'll check out the thread you mentioned.
  7. So....did you lose? Edit: Hey, good luck to both you and Sublime, seriously. Props for manning up and posting this DAR (even if my old brain can't understand half of it, you young whippersnappers). Screenshots when convenient, please. And let me know who won.
  8. Sorry, Sublime. I'm really having trouble understanding what you are trying to say. Are you using a cell phone to post here? Anyway, good luck. I'll be interested to see who wins this one.
  9. Welcome to PBEM. :-) I just discovered this thread. While I enjoy trash talking and admire people who are willing to back up their bragging by "stepping into the ring" as it were, I'm sorry to say that I'm having trouble following the action in this "DAR", mostly due to the "one liner" posting style and lack of screenshots or videos. So......who's winning? Oh, and I also want to take this opportunity to agree with IanL and Baneman regarding Probes. If you have two opponents of similar skill level playing a PBEM, a Probe will usually give the defender an "even" chance at winning. An Attack or Assault will usually be won by the attacker, in my experience (at least in the WW2 games....I'm a noob at modern).
  10. Welcome to the forum, johnsilver. As I found out when CMBN was first released, CM2 is so different from CM1 that it needs to be treated as an entirely new game, not just an upgrade of CM1. You're going to have to start fresh and learn everything like you would with a game you had never played before. The curve is steep, but well worth it. I could never go back to CM1 again. Now, I have a bone to pick with you. Why, in the name of all that is good, did you ever get rid of the "peg legs"? They were so much more tasty than those newfangled "chicken planks" or whatever you call them now. Also, you don't give away the cardboard pirate hats any longer? What's up with that? LJS has seriously gone downhill since I was a kid. Pure 1980s goodness....no longer available. :-(
  11. John, I read the Lazarus Long books years ago. Recommended. On the subject of limited AI, or AI that are designed to perform a specific task, I was searching for chess software this week and discovered that there are *free* chess programs available that have an ELO rating far higher than the highest human grandmaster. I remember when it was a big deal when a computer played Kasparov to a draw and even beat him, IIRC. This was a specially designed computer with far greater processing power than a typical home PC at that time. Now it seems that anyone can download a free program that, run on a $500 laptop, could outplay the world's top human players.
  12. Whatever you feel is appropriate for the action. I use an app called Handbrake (free) to compress FRAPS videos before uploading them to YouTube.
  13. Of the three, CMFI is my favorite. CMBN would be second, and CMRT last.
  14. You are aware this is a Combat Mission gaming forum, right? I show up at a chess club and start telling them how to play chess, I expect to have to demonstrate.
  15. Here's one from the animated Batman: Dark Knight Returns that my wife and I just watched last night. The whole movie is an excellent, faithful adaptation of the milestone Frank Miller graphic novel from the 1980s. I give it two very enthusiastic thumbs up. Available on Blu-Ray.
  16. @Bil and IanL I could do it, but I'm starting a new job in two weeks. After my training period (probably three to four weeks), I'll be working three 12.5 hour shifts every Sat/Sun/Mon (along with a 45 minute commute each way). That does leave me with four days off each week (Tue-Fri). So yea, if Jason is interested we could start a QB in a month or so, but I obviously wouldn't be doing any turns on Sat/Sun/Mon. Not trying to push you Jason. If you don't want to do it, no worries. This isn't the Peng thread, after all.
  17. I don't think anyone here is arguing the validity of JasonC's tactical analysis of the WW2 battle doctrines of the various nations. I, for one, find them very interesting. Thanks, Jason. On the other hand, I believe what many of us would like to see is JasonC put his tactics to the test in a PBEM game with the DAR posted here on these forums. I wager Bil might find the time, or IanL, or several other veteran players. A Large or Huge QB would be ideal, IMO. This is, after all, a gaming forum.
