I am no expert but I recall hearing that mortars and MGs caused most of the casualties in combat, yet in the majority of games I play tanks and infantry do most of the killing/wounding. Is it just me or have the mortars been made too inaccurate and MGs not powerful enough? Or maybe I am expecting unrealistic results (destroying the enemy rather than routing them?) Pvt.Tom

No, but I had a Schreck round go through a building and kill an M5A1 once. Pvt.Tom

I just tested it out, platoon of US Infantry vs Sd Kfz 7/2 at 300m, one squad was routed in turn 1, turn 2 AAA Truck went up in flames no problem. I have one in a PBEM Game I am playing now, maybe it will impress me more in a real game. Pvt.Tom

Duh, now that would make sense, does anyone know if CM models each 40mm round and where it lands or are all 5 rounds grouped together as 1 big shot hitting 1 spot? I think CM models each man in a squad separately so I would think that having each 40mm shell tracked separately would cause more damage than having 1 big shell?
-
I was looking over the American weapons today and noticed that the 40mm Bofors has a bigger blast value than the 76mm Sherman gun, this seems a little off to me, I don't have any hard info but why would you be able to pack as much explosives into a 40mm shell as a 76mm shell? Is the 40mm shell a lot longer than the 76mm? The Bofors must be Hell on infantry with a blast of 34 nd a high rate of fire. An info any of the experts might have would be great. Thanks Pvt.Tom

Different Models of Sherman, what's the point?
Pvt.Tom replied to Pvt.Tom's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Very true and I agree, I guess what I am wondering is in QBs does anyone buy the W or W+ Shermans and if so why. Any stories regarding their use good or bad would be useful. Thanks Pvt.Tom [This message has been edited by Pvt.Tom (edited 03-26-2001).] -

The Sherman + has better hull armor but the turret is the same, makes me wonder if it is worth the extra points? I would think that the turret is where you get hit most of the time. -

Martin, Great post, very informative, I will have to try this out. -
That's where I saw that, History Channel, I think the show was Battle Stations: Sherman, it looked like a period training film and the gunner was hand cranking the turret of a Sherman. Maybe that was an emergency crank only, I know modern Tanks have that in case the main traverse goes out. Anyone know? Pvt.Tom

Didn't the Sherman have a hand cranked turret? I could swear I saw that somewhere, if so why is it so much faster that the Panzer IVs hand cranked turret? Anyone know? Pvt.Tom

AT Rifles would be very cool in CM2, a must have IMHO, if I remember correctly they were very common on the Soviet side? Pvt.Tom

Enough of Gamey Stuarts !!! (rant)
Pvt.Tom replied to Blenheim's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
IMHO KT are way over rated, reload and turret are so slow, I just played a battle where Shermans kicked my KTs ass, they swarmed all over me and BOOM, side penetrations. Not worth the money. My small Rant Pvt.Tom -
Great posts everyone, very interesting. Thanks Pvt.Tom

Not only do people need to feel superior sometimes (IMHO), but people also need to get worked up about something once in a while, I think it is fun. Pvt.Tom -

Everyone has to feel that something makes them better than other people, it's human nature? For some people it is being a "True Wargamer", for me it's the fact that I drive better than 90% of the idiots on the road, to each his own. Pvt.Tom -

I agree with you, when you start a game agree how you are going choose units and how the units will be used and eveyone will have a better time. Pvt.Tom -
How many Pbem games are you simultaneously playing ?
Pvt.Tom replied to Crockett's topic in Combat Mission Archive #3 (2001)
Usually 8 to 10, I don't think I could handle any more than that. -
Rat Patrol! I loved that show, the best part was how they always used the MG on the back of the jeep to blow a path through the mine field. Anyway, the gamey jeep recon thing was a real hot topic for a while, check the old posts and you will get a load of info. Does seem a little gamey to me IMHO.

You are correct, but sometimes it is very hard to get that close the the enemy and keep any men alive, let alone not broken.
