  1. First of all, everything sounds to be fine. The terrain is abstracted as in a boardgame. Go to CMHQ and D/L the terrain effects chart. It really helps, and will explain much.

  6. Try reading the earlier thread on fog posted recently. From what I understand ATI based cards are behind in fog support. While cards with the Nvidia chip will suport fog( I cant say much more..As I'm going over my head..). You can try Anandtech for reviews and post your questions on their forum.
  7. I had a hard time finding the Hercules pci stuff(way, way, back ordered). I got a Pine Technologies PCI card from Tigerdirect.com (although ya can fine then everywhere) for about 75+ shipping. It does fog and all that stuff(its new so I can't say more)cause its got the Nvidia chip and all.

  9. Your tank could use an infantry screen and perhaps a couple of rounds of smoke to separate your tank from the enemy infantry.
  10. On board mortors need a LOS to the target area to fire. They can indirect fire via a HQ unit if the said HQ is in command range and it(the HQ) has a tracable LOS to the target. Flame throwers are very useful(though tricky to employ in that scenario) to clean out enemy pockets (you can search out threads on this scenario too, for more ideas), ya can even embark then on your AFV's(warning: can be risky). The full game is MUCH more satisfying. Send me a setup if ya want.
  11. Hey Alex, go easy on us. We use 'arty' or 'artty' AKA artillery cause any word over six letters ya hafta use a dictionary to spell...(didn't ya know?)
  12. I kind of agree also that wire should be cleared/negated by engineers. I don't mean up to OSHA standards but enough for easy access. Now as for clearing it under fire, that is a problem not related to clearing the wire itself, right?
  13. I don't think these are modeled right. I don't see how with the ROF that is comming out of the weapon system that it could fire oblequely while on the move. I would think that it would be like a cherry picker without stabilizer blocks(whatyamacallit). IMHO, any firing other than directly in line with the rear could disable the moving vehicle.   14. Hey, I don't know an all but there is not too much to do to setup a gun to direct fire. It takes very little prep time (a whole battery could setup in around 10 min. and that would be for indirect fire!). Yes even the biggies don't take much to setup for direct fire. On about loadouts...ya can't fit a CM loadout of most towed weapons on the transport vehicle, where would the crew and their equiptment go? [ 05-05-2001: Message edited by: Radar ]
  15. All of that isn't enough reason to forbid a short sprint. The game play is abstracted, with the unit icon showing an area of around 20m or so. Why can't a team sprint for one turn or two to show a spreading of the operationa area and be 'tired or weary' to close up this gap?
  16. CM wont display a resolution higher than the current one. Check your screen resolution settings (increase if nessasary) and delete the file Combat Mission Bynd Ovr Prefs (to reset the initial settings). Restart your CM and rechoose the resolution setup.

  19. I'm sorry, but I don't get why coding the AI to 'remember' prior threat areas (especially from immenent destruction!)for a limited time after a blocked LOS to react accordingly, is overlooked. IMHO, its one of the more important things that should be improved upon. I've seen it already move and plan with a visible threat (and not too bad in most cases) on its own.
  20. I hear what your saying, Yes IRL, a 3 round FFE from just a battery (6 or 8 tubes) would make so much dust and smoke that ya would have a time to see a 'target'. Arty is an area effect weapon and the smoke and blast can be seen almost like the fast and intermediate level smoke effects in the game(HE smoke is black, BTW). But the effect varies with the weather and temp.
  21. Well, lets not stop with the LMG, why can't the 60mm, 81mm, MMG, HMG..etc, all do a short sprint like a zook team or equivalent. The rational that allowed a zook to short sprint and not these others is incredibly bias. They have enough men, and remember, they do this day in day out 24/7. What might be difficult for you would be normal to them.
