  1. Moonshine - thanks for the comment but can you confirm arrangements will be made for this side of the Atlantic to get a concurrent release with the US? TIA
  2. Re:CMBB I would love to pre-order 3 copies. My friends will take a further 4 copies!! ... but what arrangements are in hand for European buyers? Are arrangements made for a European production and distribution??? aving them sent by normal post from the US is brilliant as it avoids paying UPS and local taxes which doubled the cost of the game. A European [EU] source would be brilliant!!!
  3. A great idea. BUmPBuMP I would dearly love a basic black & white map to print out for plotting in the game. It could be very basic ..... and that with a print out of the forces involved at game end + score could form the basis of a nice archive and the after battle post-mortem ...... you know .. I would have won but
  4. Hey, I am honest. Playing my brother TC/IP in a meeting engagement in a 1500 point game. Only 300 points are available so I purchased 1 fighter bomber. Now it has often been said that in the days of board games I was jammy with the dice ..... obviously it carries over. LOL In a battle afterwards my Churchill VIII faced head on by a King Tiger knocked its gun out before it manged to kill anything!!! Those magic electronic die rolls ...... Now if only I could win games .....
  5. is it me? Whats with complaining about a great game 'cos MS XP and Nvidia have created a problem. I understand that XP is machine specific when loaded ..... that is you cannot load it elsewhere or if you alter your configuration it may refuse to run. On that basis you will not get me and many others to convert to XP. Come on MS has a hell of a monopoly now on operating systems and now its trying to put the screws on. Given it likes to buy, or put out of business any great cometitor when is there a bid for BTS!! LOL
  6. Coincidentally yesterday I was reading of one of Our VC winners who got two Tigers and a Stug in one engagement. It was posthumous. He lost his gun crew and eventually his gun and legged it to another 6 pounder which he worked by himself before dying.Amazing stuff Regrettably I browsed two bookshops yesterday and about ten books so its probably easier to check VC listings than the bookshops. Certainly late war and the hero had a long name like Haythornthwaite or suchlike. People like this are just unbelievable - trust we have a few like him in action now.
  7. Dad ---- this is only the greatest computer game ever. Get it now! I've had one copy from the states and one ordered in Europe - no troubles.
  8. Lucky, As I type my brother has just completed Assault =25% by computer. Highlight Bofors taking out KT at 350yds headon. 7th shot immobolises and 10th damages gun -- crew bailout. 2 shots from kt miss. Does it come any better than that
  9. Having read all 5 pages - so far - my gut reaction is to agree with Mr A. Probably because I agree with his version of what constitutes an ME. When playing my brother the concept of having At guns already positioned has never arisen and I suspect we have had so many games where the forces chosen by the AI for us that when we do it ourself it does not occur to us. But I consider , given the short ranges the game is played, that hidden guns are too powerful and that they should be limbered at game start- not to say that you do not have them near a decent site.!!
  10. Last night in a quick battle (1250pts) against my brother, who was trying to race Stuarts and a Hellcat around my flanks a Stug111 killed a stuart the hellcat and a sherman! I must admit when I was down to the Stu and 2 stu42 against the Hellcat and Sherman I thought I was dead meat but the troops came good! Yeah
  11. I think Sweden is winning - certainly on a per head of population!! Is that where youa re not allowed to sell toy guns to children - is this a factor? Portishead North Somerset United Kingdom incidentally yeah TORONTO - particularly for Jarvis Collegiate Institute also by way of Sidney, Aus and Auckland N.Z
  12. Gridded terrain is available as a download from several sites. If you click at the HTML at the bottom of Gstav 109 it will give links or do a search. I would like to say how useful it is - it really works and tell you where I downloaded it from but I have so many mod sites in my CMBO folder I cannot remember which it is!! Happy gaming
  13. When I was baptised - Chaldon church which I think is 11thCentury - they had a tapestry round the wall were your name is woven. When i went back decades later my name Denzil looks like Diesel ..... ------------------ I have impeccable bad taste
  14. Superb - please release ASAP I've beeen to Normandy a dozen times and these really look on the money. ------------------ I have impeccable bad taste
  15. I agree with lurker. BTS deserve to get as many bucks out of the game as possible and anything that aids scum ripping them and us the paying punter should be avoided. I print of the read-me's and that's adequate. ps I like CMBO so much i'm buying a further two copies for my brother and my son. ---- but i agree that the manual did miss a 'couple' of things out
  16. Testing ONE TWO THREE ONE ONE Nope can't hear a thing
  17. I have spoken again to my brother over his jammy total victory I am disgusted - to hell with what WIttman did my brother wimps about in the trees till reinforcements arrive. How ahistorical I thought could be clever tactic so tried it and immobolised myself on go 3 . Fought on to get a draw!!
  18. I hate to be boring but THANK YOU!!! oh that all games companies were so GOOOOD
  19. Oh! woe is me. having decided the Germans could never win I have been playing it again. First attempt Wittmans takes a gun hit after three minutes!!!! still by attempt number 8 I was getting to 65 /25 Axis Major Victory - more by luck than any clever tactics. Foolishly I mentioned this to my brother who sent me this e-mail: "(OK on 2nd attempt...) Axis Total Victory 88 vs 12 Allies lost all vehicles, had one 6pdr left (I discovered from map at game end), all infantry bar one squad (panicke/routed) eliminated. Axis lost 1 Tiger, 1 Mk IV and Panzershreck, all other units intact if someone depleted (1 squad with 1 man, 2 with 6, Platoon HQ with 2). Ta-daaaa. (Quite hairy really). I was German by the way." I will ask him to post his tactics -- though I think he is just a jammy bustard (type of bird you know) ------------------ He has impeccable bad taste
  20. Having read the thread I am conscious of a niggling feeling all the way from the initial post. The feeling that the game is a success because - not because of its graphics, not because of its realism or modelling of the period - it is a success because it is an intellectually satisfying challenge. Second guessing the AI or a human - or failing - to makes it addictive particularly as you have the 1 minute film slowly revealing the success or failure of your own decisions. So what are the main feature - playability and suspense - and all of this in a reasonable time frame. The way I look at it is that all else should be viewed as subsidiary to this. More vehicle types nice but not necessary, better graphics nice but what trade of in network and PBEM play times, completely accurate armour simulated - nice but not necessary. I think Mr Meek in his initial post missed a trick by ignoring a group who play for enjoyment. I believe that actually probably includes everyone!!! but the subjects of play "balance" and game "functionality" as final arbiters of what should be included in a game seemed to be absent. And yes I believe the designers have got it right. Yes it seems there are interest groups who want this that and the other included - and yes I am praying that this game & BTS avoids a computer bloatware edition a la ASL. Amen. Regards p.s love the maths and syntax grogs I LOL
  21. This has been an interesting read. I am not a spirit drinker but it's nice to see enthusiasts waxing lyrical. For those who are interested there was a great little article in "The Economist" issue for 23/12/00 - 5/1/01 about the science of ageing whisky. mentions why different woods are used and charring of barrels etc. Example given of St. George Spirits [us] using three different types of barrels to get the result they wanted ! ------------------ He has impeccable bad taste
  22. Hi Miles I purchased in early december and if memory serves it took about 10 days. Cost about 38sterling. Worth it .. you bet. Believe me a proper book (172 page) compared to a PDF is such a joy to handle. Yesterday I oredered two copies for my son and my brother ..... Any thought of ripping of BTS by copying is just not on. These guys livelihoods are on the line. Get the game you'll never regret it .... and there is only a handful of games you can say that about. Happy gaming!
  23. Really great multiplayer and fast Antietam and Gettysburg from Firaxis Slooow Empire Deluxe Steel panther series
