One small thing that can help, and you'll have to do a search, as I don't recall where I d/led it, is to use the blank turn # mod. That way, after a few turns, you kind of lose track, and, as long as your opponent also uses it, the typcial endgame hijinks, though lessened by the variable ending, are even less likely.
Of course, if you number your pbem turns by turn number, it will defeat the purpose, but thats a whole 'nother debate that doesn't need to be dredged up here.

Everything looks so damn good, that we might actually have this in our hands in 2003.
Dare to dream.....
There aren't enough hours in the day.

I'm definitely in the family and work category, but I love huge maps with anything from company size to reinforced battalion size combatants. I have no use for small battles.
No doubt, I'm in the minority, but I like spending many turns carefully reconnoitering and manuevering.

I would be willing to bet that an enormous number of WWII Soviet soldiers couldn't have told you what kind of German armored vehicle they were looking at if they got to climb on it.
A great many were completely illiterate, so even a guide would have meant nothing, as the words under the picture/drawing would have been incomprehensible.
Plus, maybe the Germans had lots of foliage lashed on. Since the Jagdpanther was built on a Panther hull, I don't think its a ridiculous stretch to call it that at all.
Maybe I'm different, but I like it when that sort of thing happens. The true fog of war.
Anyway, just my .02, not a flame.

Awesome, as always, Marco.
I love CMMODS but the dialup world needs the CMMOS page, Spoon!
-
http://www.combatmission.com/cmmos/Winterfahrzeuge/Winterfahrzeuge2.htm on the CMMOS page has everything whitewashed.
-
Another great one from one of the elite handful.
Now if we could just get Spoon to start updating the CMMOS page more than quarterly......

Ah ha! CM II will be Russia vs Japan!Originally posted by jwxspoon:Hey now! Just in case you thought we did no work, here is a picture of Matt engaged in a highly detailed and completely accurate description of how CMBB determined the specific regions within the game:

Just guessing that you are actually asking about small caliber flak guns. What happens, gamewise, is that the target is often immobilized or gun damaged, at which point, subject to the constant "ballpeen hammer syndrome" of small caliber shells pinging on their, now less than fully functional, tank will often cause the crew to abandon it.Originally posted by DrJonez:I'm a little stumped as to why flak will work against a tank.
Isn't flak just an HE shell that flings shrapnel everywhere? How is that going to penetrate armor?

NOW I see why no CMMOS updates in two months....

You will definitely want to play against human opponents, but the ai's schedule will always match yours, when you don't have time to pbem or tcp/ip.
PEBKAS refers to "problem exists between keyboard and seat", meaning the person in question may be intellectually challenged.
The various Peng challenges are a way for a fairly close-knit group of forum members to insult each other and challenge one another to pbem games.
Its the greatest game series, ...ever..., welcome.

theike,
One very important thing to keep in mind is that you needn't spend time on all the factors like time, weather, turns, fanaticism, etc.
People download your maps, fire up a quick battle, and instead of generating a map, they use yours. The quick battle allows them to select all of the parameters, so all you need to do is concentrate on topography.
My own suggestions would be maps that are at least 1200 width by at least 800 height. Also, as we discussed once before, easy on the roads in Russia!

If you use no FOW, then your units will perfectly id every unit in LOS. They will know its experience level, and number of men, etc.
They will not be able to spot anything they couldn't see anyway, if I understand your question. Terrain, smoke, and so on, will still keep the opposition hidden.
Hope that helps.

That was Gary Kump.Originally posted by MikeyD:von Nev, I am jealous.
This post reminds me of a description that was posted of a CMBB pre-release get together, before the game came out. The host managed to hook up a projector to his PC and the participants played the Beta game projected really big on his livingroom wall. Talk about total emersion!
I see you're a junior member. Now for true emersion you've got to start downloading 3rd party mods for your new game, get the thing looking as close to photo-realistic as possible!
Now we have another one to think about, and say......"Damn you".......

Sorry, but this elicits a picture of "Shrek" performing some horrible bodily function in an indirect mode, and having it start an avalanche.Originally posted by Lou2000:I've seen a couple refs to Shrek being used in indirect fire mode and a mortar ... and also to start avalanches !!

This is exactly why BB is so much better. You, the battlefield commander, have limited knowledge of the enemy. I think its great to find out that things aren't they way I assumed.Originally posted by MikeyD:I recall fighting one battle to a 'draw', then at the end finding to my horror half the AI's forces had flanked me and were occupying the big flags to my rear! I went from 'draw' to 'major defeat'! I don't recall that ever happening in CMBO.
Others may not.
-
Yes, but he wants to change from scenario to operation, as I read it, anyway.
-
Sorry, can't be done.
You'll have to do it again.....
-
Yes, because of all the T-34's that never came anywhere near a Tiger and performed perfectly adequately against everything else they encountered.
-
That's wonderful.
Thanks for keeping it going!

Rockets are best used as a pre-game bombardment.
That way your troops are not anywhere close to it and it will also be pretty accurate, as rockets go.
Trying to use them as called fire is mighty dangerous for you as well as your opponent, and getting an accurate strike adjusted before the rockets are gone is veeeeery tough if it lands badly initially.

I don't want to jump all over this but: CMmods is there and it is free . We had an opportunity to contribute to it's growth(speed?) through contributions, we declined...Originally posted by Krazy Canuck:</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr />Originally posted by Volker:
True, but thats the point anyway. CMMods.com is like a 4 year olds bedroom. A total mess, people toss Mods in their all over the place. I found a Sound Mod in the Terrain area. Theirs just too much coming and going to keep up with. And on top of that, the Mod site is Sllllooooowwwwww like a snail. Sometimes it speeds up for a few then drops to a crawl. It would be nice to just have a place to go, where a Moder can post his or her work, tell me where to find it, and check it out.
COG is doing a helluva job, for free , to slam it is totally unfair, unless of course, you are willing to take it over and do a better job.
And Matt has stated more than once that if he had his druthers, there would be fewer forums long before than would be more.
Honestly not trying to sound harsh, I'm just trying to ward off/delay the day that COG throws in the towel 'cause his site has become to demanding upon his time.

Don't worry Volker, I think it will be safe to assume that anything non-WWII will be an "And" rather than an "Or". Kind of like CMAK being a cool surprise.
CMnext will be WWII, first and foremost. Bet on it.
