  1. Cant run directX games at higher than desktop res without some fancy code which CM does not have, as I understand things. What you can do is set your desktop to 1600x1200 then set your text and icons to large. Should look something like a crisper 1280x1024. WWB
  2. Depends on your DSL setup. Some setups use some weird protocols which dont play too well with games. Other issue is if you are using a router, which is pretty easy to deal with. WWB
  3. I beta tested the game, so I know a thing or two about it. After my first few games with the first beta, I quit doing all-random QBs. As BH points out, there is way too much variance in significant factors (for example the as-yet-unmentioned fitness) that could generate unfun games. I will grant that attacking is more difficult now, inasmuch as it requires more thought. But it aint impossible. There are several key factors which players need to tweak to work things out: 1) Length of game: the 25 turn standard of CMBO days is dead for CMBB. I suggest 33 variable turns for attacks at a minimium, over medium maps in medium point ranged. 2) Map types: Peter, try the gentle slopes style if flat is too flat for your liking. It is quite tactically interesting. Open maps are, well, open. Set it up for more trees. Random map type is one of those things I have avoided for good reason--it can really twist games. 3) Battle types: No one here mentions assault type battles. They will give the attacker a far better ratio. In addition, the defender must spend a very significant portion of his points on fortifications. Flag positions are not that different from attacks now. 4) Generally, damn skippy BH. Speak on brother. WWB
  4. 1) There is a new, well hidden search in the depot. Click on the battles selection and there are 2 links--list all buttons and search battles. 2) We at B&T have a policy of NOT reviewing B&T battles. There is an AAR section if one wants to post something. 3) To answer your length quesiton, the group I asked (Band of Brothers, I will try and pull up links to the polls) was basically concerned with multiplayer battles. The pitfall with making 60 turn battles is you end up with 20+ turns of boredom before the shooting starts. I know I dont like to sit there for 20 turns waiting for something to happen. I try and setup scenarios such that there will be shooting by turn 3, but that is me. With the editor, one can give away the recon game, as well as start some parts of the force close enough to avoid approach marches in most cases. Also, I would like to point out that the CD battles are up at the depot, so please go review them. WWB
  5. I presume this is in the editor, and the solution is pretty simple: Set casualties at 50% and buy a tank hunter team. Bingo, instant 1 man TH team. WWB
  6. The trick is now you have to use your SMG squads sparingly, and as part of a combined arms force, instead of cruzing around wreaking havoc. WWB
  7. I pretty much agree with you here, but I do have some comments. 1) I agree with you here, but it is hard to avoid on smaller without creating artificial constructions. I do try and avoid this, but sometimes players do things that designers dont expect. 5) I think I did the battle in question. It was padlocked for very good reason: I knew exactly where that gun was deployed historically. And I had a 1:50k map of the area allowing me to recreate the terrain very accurately so it dovetailed nicely. 6) I did a little "market research" once. Players in general prefer battles in the 25-35 turn range of medium size. So I try and keep it within the preferred range. Warlord: See Dergratshci Roadblock for that style of "quick" operation. Very good vs. a live opponent. I second what andreas said. If people dont like something, or think something is awesome REVIEW THE BATTLE. It is the only way, aside from sending notes to the designer (all my battles have my email addy in the briefing) that we can know what we did right/wrong outside the optionions of our playtesters. WWB
  8. It brings my Athalon XP2000+ to its knees. I would wait until you have made a serious upgrade to give it a go. WWB
  9. Direct fire HE usually does the trick. The bigger the better. Ok, you little panzergrenadier squad wanna stay in trench eh? Well, meet mr SU122. WWB
  10. Magnum, Whitman was nowhere near Pyonri as I understand things. I do happen to have 1:50k maps of prokhova, so something kinda neat and special might be in the offing. WWB
  11. Pyonri will get done in due time. As for whittman, have you not looked at your CMBO CD. Its on there, one battle and one operation. WWB
  12. I think I know the scenario you are talking about. Its not poor planning, its by design. WWB
  13. Nope. You make a map either an operation or a battle from click one. You are committed after that, short of a complete re-generation. WWB
  14. Give me a call sometime, we can discuss details over beers or somesuch. If you have the cash, and dont care about upgrading aside from replacement of the entirey system, Dell etc will work fine. I actually bought one of the above mention Asus A7V8X motherboards recently and I am quite happy with the thing. Lots of upward potential (aformentioned features plus Serial ATA, firewire, gigabit ethernet). I avoid WD hard drives like the plague, that might be residual from having 25/80 go bad on me at work here in 18 months. WWB
  15. Fixed. Now the "blank page" contains instructions.</font>
  16. That was before the deal with CDV. And, as Tom just pointed out, the problem is quite solveable with a little patching. WWB
  17. Poles are in from 1/45 on in the central front IIRC. WWB
  18. I am clicking on those clipboards, link to the cmbb one is http://ns9.super-hosts.com/~dragonlair.net/combatmission/lists_index_CMBB.htm . I get a blank page titled "The CMBB Lists" WWB
  19. For CMBB, uninstall is deleting the folder. It is not like other windows programs--there are no registry entries or DLLs strewn about so there is no need for an uninstaller aside from user-friendliness. WWB
  20. How do you get to the lists? I get no data in the CMBO or CMBB lists. WWB
  21. Hmm, talenn, I would take PzIVs over T34s at any range over 700m. Good optics, accurate guns and the cupolas are a huge advantage. You seem to only fight the enemy tanks head on, which is usually a bad idea. WWB
  22. It was done because we could, we had the maps, and goddamit it was good. Note that there are 2 smaller stalingrad scenarios based on sections of that map, Dzhevinsky Tractor Works and The Last Stand. Both are playable on any machine that can handle CMBB. WWB
  23. You gotta manually switch. But at least you can keep tanks from different years. So you could do a back to the future battle featuring 2 strumtigers against 42 BT7s. WWB
