  1. I would bet on any 20mm armed German AC vs T26s inside 1000m. Higher ROF, better gun, better optics will give the krauts an edge in that matchup. For a good example see my High Noon scenario at Boots & Tracks. Early versions had more german A/Cs and Pz IIs vs many more soviet light tanks. I gave up after I saw 10 20mm armed german units taking out 30 soviet units without much of a loss. WWB
  2. 1) I, WWB, for the record, am not Wild Bill Wilder. 2) Its an operation, and was released in teh 2nd pak, and only works with 1.01. WWB
  3. Now try Hell on Earth and apply such tricks young man. WWB
  4. I am pretty new to this web design thing. Can do the formatting, have a good handle on PHP, etc. I see some folks have problems with frames, but they provide a rather easy way to setup a well organized site with proper nav bars and such without that much effort. I understand the deep linking and search engine issues, and have somewhat of a workaround in place. But what do I use aside from frames to generate similar effects without having to jump through hoops or driving my bandwith usage thru the roof? WWB
  5. Would you happen to be playing CMBO directly from the cd? WWB
  6. Demoss: Glad you liked Into the Void. Those AI issues are always tricky, especially given how fickle it is. Play is much more interesting against another human, but the germans need a mistake or two to win in that case. The map is only nearly as big as the engine allows, and I hear you on the flags but I wanted to push the player towards the exit. The flags are there to give the AI a hint or two. In any case I am glad you enjoyed it. WWB
  7. Just stumbled on it myself. It seems you can only do the shift select for the selected side (you do have a side selected in the editor btw). To do shift-selects for the russians (or to set the opening viewpoint for that player) unselect any unit and hit back slash. WWB
  8. Speaking of potential CM Fansites check out The 3d Wargamer (bottom link in me sig). Not too much there yet. And what is wrong with frames? WWB
  9. First, I got your note and file, I will have a looksee time permitting. Second, your questions: Not really, aside from kludges like impassible terrain mentioned above. I would not recommend using fire to close off an edge for the frame rate hit. One trick that could work well in Stalingrad would be a double row of large buildings, since troops cannot walk thru the walls separating them. In an exit zone battle, the only units that give positive exit points are those that are set to Exit For Points and exit on the proper map edge. The units that exit off an improper map edge are treated as if they survived the battle but never exited AFAIK—which means a VP hit for not exiting units. Aside from starting units panicked not really. That is kind of a gamble because they can be very easily routed from there. Try shift-clicking on the add and subtract arrows. Overall, it is pretty difficult to keep players from retreating off map. OTOH, most players are reluctant to do so on a psychological level—they would rather attempt to fight it out than run away. Hope this helps. WWB
  10. Yeah, I suspect it is the machine. I did run it on a 233 once, it was quite slow, and that was a small battle. WWB
  11. I thought this only applied on the turn they exited since they are "out of sight but not out of mind" so to speak. Anhow, I have realized exit scenarios and planes don't mix. See the B&T Times for details. WWB
  12. I would send a good description, along with the file that is generating the bad PBEM, to Matt (matt@battlefront.com). Get your opponent to send the password to him too. WWB
  13. ------------------------------- <snipped blabberings> RULE OF A THREAD: STEVE'S FAVOURITES CAN FREELY INSULT OTHERS, AND ANY DEFENCE RESULTS IN 'FORMAL WARNING' FROM STEVE[/QB]</font>
  14. Actually, in my experience, a TNT2 with 32mb is worse than a TNT2 with 16mb, reason being downsampling. The TNT cards really need the help, and alot more happens with 16mb VRAM. The TNTs with 64mb are a horror. In any case, GeForce4 4200s are pretty cheap these days, and it is christmas time . . . WWB
  15. Offhand, I would say MikeyDZ's tests are the only ones that hold water. He ran it thru enough to get a somewhat signficant figure. Aside from that all the tests are immaterial. WWB
  16. Medium has nothing to do with point values, it reflects the number of units potentially on the map. This count includes fortifications so it can be a bit skewed. A good example of why one should ignore points would 2 battles like the following: Battle 1: 2.5km x 2.5km steppe map, 15 T34 85s attacking 5 Panthers. c. 3000 points on map, battle size is tiny (maybe small). Battle 2: 800m x 800m urban map, 2 companies attacking 1 company. Medium sized, definitely a lot longer to play. WWB
  17. I am one of the few who has made them (1 at the depot, 2 more on the CD and a fourth on my HDD awaiting the day of 4ghz computerS). They are very rewarding, but the development cycle is definitley much more intensive as playtests take much longer, even with the dedicated crew I have. Moreover, balance is much trickier since, after the 2nd or 3rd battle there are too many permutations to watch. So you will never see as many operations as battles, at least good operations. WWB
  18. See the first link in my sig. I do implore you to get a few playtests in (a good place to ask for testers is here) before you go and release the battle to the general public. WWB
  19. Hmm, yeah, it is not in there. I do recall Steve saying they were going to make bogging dependant on experience, but it might not have actually made it in. WWB
  20. No dynamic lighting model hence no flares. They would have to make the entire battlefield lighter at things now stand. WWB
  21. Marc, I tried to play one but my opponent ran into a time crunch and had to bail. From the turn or so I saw it looked pretty neat and was well done considering CM's limitations. WWB
  22. First, hit shift-s ingame. You might have accidentally turned it off. Also, can you pick the point at which the sound quit working and did you do anything to your system around then? Second, we need some more information to help you, such as type of computer, operating system, direct X version, sound card type, sound card drivers, etc. WWB
  23. No, I am referring to the CMBO->CMBB changelog. The massive, 50 pager that they posted after the demo came out. Time in terrain would have an effect to be sure. We might need to look at bogs per second of movmement. One other issue with the test is that 10 is far too small a sample. As Matt has said, any statistical test with fewer than 100 cases is not a valid test. WWB
