Where do you come up with 1200 Panzers? GD-30, 1st-55 pz, 5th-61 pz,etc, etc. Army group center didn't have 1200 Panzers.

Group Think - What the hell were you thinking?
RCHRD replied to Lt Belenko's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
I tried the demo and decided not to buy, because 40 dollars IS a lot of money to throw away. I played CMBB today and one of my panthers decided to reverse all the way up to the front. That game isn't perfect, but acceptable. -

Siege of Moscow - reference maps?
RCHRD replied to Si32's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
HPS simulations sells a CD map of the Moscow area, drawn I think by the Germans. Very big, twenty bucks or so. -
Any Russian tank grogs read this one?
RCHRD replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
This is actually an old book, which was originally published as a series of articles for a Russian magazine. -
Soviet late-war attacks and casualties
RCHRD replied to Cuirassier's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
If the tank and mech corps created the breach, then who would exploit? Soviet Doctrine had good amounts of tanks, midwar this role was assigned the KV's, plenty of engineers, and lots and lots of artillery. The Russians were known to locate German defenses all the way back to the mortars. Huge volumes of area fire, pinpoint fires on preselected targets, known to exist, direct fires by heavy tanks and SPG's and heavy sapper support. What more could you want? -
As a side note, the commisars house was demolished only recently, much to the dismay of the people who were awestruck by it. You can google earth Volgograd and still see the outline in the ground. Several of the surrounding buildings were restored and look now just as they did in 42.

It's about the fight between the Barrikady and the Volga. Very little about the factory fight itself. Still worth every penny.

Geez, could you be a little more obnoxious. I don't think he gets it. You sound like the wizard in the Wizard of Oz. -
any good book recomendation for stalingrad ?
RCHRD replied to redbear's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I really enjoyed Beevers Stalingrad, but I never bought his Berlin book because I heard that it devoted a lot of space to the Red army atrocities. Every book that discusses the Soviet advance into Germany spends a lot of space on Soviet atrocities. It's hard to take. -
any good book recomendation for stalingrad ?
RCHRD replied to redbear's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Sure. The standards. 'Enemy at the Gates' by William Craig. 'Stalingrad' by Beever. 'The Road to Stalingrad' by John Erickson. The last narrates the war up to and including Stalingrad. -

Some Russian girls are stunningly beautiful. If you go there, and walk down any city street you will see far, far more fat old skanks. But then you will see one that knocks you off your feet. The most beautiful woman I ever saw lives in Volgograd. -
Like Stalingrad or Berlin?

RCHRD replied to Andreas's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Andreas, you are a genius. I've been trying to get at those articles since that site opened. I've gotten two in as many years. I got all the 1982 issues just today. Thanks. -
I just saw that the Russian 45mm AT gun had a 100 metre penetration of 42mm, making the ATR almost exactly as effective. Why have the AT gun at all? 38mm penetration seems kind of generous.

Andreas, when I go to the red army studies site and try to download the soviet articles, they start and stop and finally stop completey before the end of the article. Is there a trick I'm missing? -
Thank you, John. Just what I needed.

I was trying to get into the 'Russian Battlefield' site, but no success. Can anyone tell me the penetration values for the Soviet AT rifles at 100 meters?
