  1. Well, not sure I'd call megacorps buying out the competition and putting out garbage for the masses to consume a "free market" Still, you are correct in that it's my point of view, of course, the main object of my posts was to spread my POV, as I'd rather like it if the "free market" managed to keep it's ugly hands off small operations like BTS, who IMHO produce the superior product because they make games they would like to play, not because some yoyo in marketing played a demo of Diablo2. Remember folks, you might say that's your 2 cents on the matter, but actually the whole wallet's yours, shouldn't you have a say in deciding how it's spent? ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  2. Right you are Wayne, however, it's that tragic death you refer to that has so many of us pissed off. ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  3. You guys forgot to mention Panzer Colors 1,2,and 3 by Bruce Culver Squadron/Signal publications ISBN #'s 0-89747-057-5,0-89747-069-9,and 0-89747-156-3 ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  4. pzvg> Tone, cc ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  5. I'm finding it hard to do anything interesting with the Shermans, as there doesn't seem to be the vast amount of varying paint jobs like the Germans had, it's also harder to find good pictures of those there are.Since I can't hope to match Tiger in the detail of his work, I'm only concentrating on picking out memorable paint schemes to work on. Oh and Tiger? Do you have any kind of life? I find it incredible to even try to match your output. (And his is all depressingly good too) ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  6. "It's only a name" And so are Men in Black,Starship Troopers,Star Trek, and James Bond, to mention a few, If, indeed, it is only a name, why would you imagine a game company forking over millions (yes millions) in licensing fees to studios? It's a little thing called "Name Brand Market Recognition" It is a marketing tool, used to induce people to buy the product at face value because of association with a recognized name, when it is done in earnest, it can become a great thing, when it is done as a cynical marketing ploy, it stands revealed as the single most callow thing about the gaming market. As for the games designer, well it is understandable that he wishes to make the game "right" Yet, bear in mind, Activision forced Parsoft to "dumb down" the flight models in Screaming Demons to make it more "accessable" to the "masses" Corperate types often have a vision too, It's called moving the market, or, "Hey Diablo 2 sold over 2 million units, couldn't we put some demons in this?" That sounds funny, but it's tragically real. As far as complaints, someone above(sorry for dropping the name) hit it right on the head, Don't buy the game, and they declare the market is no longer viable, don't buy the game and send them mail stating you will not buy garbage,so they had better think of how to make something besides garbage, and you will at least get their attention, for you will have shown them the market IS there, and if they don't get with it, someone else is going to take it from them. Now, are there any questions?
  7. Hi Ski, -Jochen- Hehe, wife is GM of a store in major resturant chain, SHE doesn't have time for me! She's glad I stat home and play computer games, instead of going out boozing ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  8. Tero; Ding! you are correct the proper term is recuperator housing. All; Have we actually sunk to the point where no thread is safe from inane, childish behavior? I mean, what in the nine hells makes anyone think that constant Sh@t stirring is entertainment? note; if you do think that is entertainment, please disregard, as it is obivious that you are too far gone, and should be left to quitely drift. ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  9. While we're waiting to see if this does need to be fixed, here's a little field mod to help with the problem, put the target marker next to, instead of on, the gun. The tank will use HE in the area fire role and it takes guns out fairly fast. Hope that solves some of your problem. ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  10. Agggh! Tiger you're starting to interfere with my mod work!(by making me play with your mods way too much) Damn another new folder in the zipped list (just added 30Gb HD, so not too worried) To all: stay tuned, will pop out another mod when I get more computer time at home,(work sux, especially on a Saturday) ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  11. Democracy? whassat? If this is a democracy, why is THAT man in the White House? <jk> Now we've gotten all hot and bothered for nothing, since reality says this is more pipe smoke, what is reality? For those unfamilar or uncomfortable with the subject, try this, percentage of the world's nuclear arsenal controlled by the UN, 0% percentage of the world's nuclear arsenal controlled by the US, 50% Fact is, nobody can MAKE the United States do what it doesn't want to do. And you can call it whatever you like, since renaming it will not alter a basic truth. If America doesn't want to do it, we won't. And MJ, please don't get lost in all this high-minded crap slinging, If you're going in, well, there ya are bud, you're in, and ya go where they say,ya do what they order unless it directly contradicts the laws of the United States of America, and here's a hint, past all the glory and duty, honor, country BS, the real reason ya do it is for your buds, because they are who the real deal obligation is to. Finis. ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  12. Ok, some of y'all are seriously overmedicated. As for those who hate America, fine why you on this American forum, supporting an American game company? jeez, gidouddaheah! And to those who suggest MJ study the UCMJ, good plan, Oh MJ, they did however omit the fact that ya'd have to re-enlist to FINISH reading it, since the Uniform Code of Military Justice isn't exactly a 4 page how to document ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  13. Ok Joe, you got some answers, and you got an earfull of some folks's outre opinions, hehe welcome to the real world I think it would be time to let this one sink to obscurity, since too many folks with axes to grind decided to come in and polarize yet another open-minded thread. (don't bother with flames or passionate rhetoric, I'm actually unimpressed with the former, and bored by the latter) ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  14. First of all Joe,"Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends" (old song look it up) As many have pointed out, as a grunt the job is to go where they send you. And note, it doesn't take an oil company or pressure from the Uniformed Nations to send you out for no good reason (Grenada) As for the political asides that keep turning up here, can it guys, there isn't a candidate running that I respect or plan on voting for, and hasn't been for a while. Basically Joe, good luck try to have fun, I'd recommend learning something more useful than combat arms, (the army has layoffs, called force reductions) combat skills aren't very useful outside,no matter what the commercials say. And should you find yourself in a conflict somewhere for whatever reason, bear in mind that U.S. policy is up for debate, survival is not, so keep your young ass down, ya dig bro? ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  15. So easy for some of you, try explaining that Nazi Germany was evil, and did evil things, (explaining about war is easy when you wear a green suit) But Grandpa was not evil, he did not do evil things. (Opa was a 50-something reservist recalled in '44) I found that very hard with the first daughter, (yes she plays wargames) hopefully I'll have better answers for the second one(10 months, she eats wargames) "But Dad, if Opa fought for the Germans, he had to be a bad guy, right?" (something like this at a family get together can age you 15 years in a minute) ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  16. Actually have seen an 8mm film of Rommel's troops using that method in the desert, while there was quite a bit of recoil, the fact that the gun was still hooked to it's towing vehicle seemed to make it stay in one spot ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  17. Boy you can really spot the REMF's arount here I've seen PEOPLE, of the temporarily alive variety, do the same stupid things the TacAi does, so it's not that far off the mark, Also consider this, a small gun has a gunshield that's about 2-3 foot square, if you don't have that old reliable, "close is good enough" HE, You probably wouldn't stake your life on pegging it with an AP round, MG's have a higher volume of fire, are capable of suppression,(hard to fire a gun while you're eating dirt) and have that endearing quality beloved by panicked troops the world over, spray-n-pray, your tankers were too ballsy, shoulda reversed out instead trying to engage, but no dumber than any other dead tankers. ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  18. I'm with Mace and others, if you only play one side, you're only getting half the game. Besides, the temptations of the Ostfront. Ahh, the challenge of fighting off the panzers in a "plywood coffin" (BT series) in the early period, or the wonders of a KT or JT being able to use it's full range in the later period, who'd want to deny themselves those experiences? I mean come now,I play the Germans,Americans,Brits,French,Poles,Canadians now, why would I give it up for just one side 'cause the other one is Russian? Grognards play both sides, and usually condemn the other(winning) side for not being "historical" ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  19. MadMatt, D/L'd the saurer zip for the third time, and this time Mr.Crappymodem got it right!(He's got a pink slip waiting for him) So my bad, everybody go download the mods they run fine last long time Since you're being swamped, I think I'll hold any future mods for a while. (gives me more time to tweak 'em too) ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  20. Real life (well training life anyway) illustration of FOW at work. Once upon a last decade, I and others in the loose gaggle known as ground support platoon,Bravo company,1st support battalion, were on an FTX (field tactical exercise) in the woods around weisbaden, We were told to expect a platoon to company sized probe of our positions towards dawn, but were also told that we would be getting support from HQ platoon,B/1. Dawn, heavy fog, line of sight measured in inches, sounds of movement to our front, we go to ground, prepare to engage, where the hell are the Headshed guys? Firing breaks out to our right rear, What the hell? The sounds in front stop as the unseen troops go to ground,we hold our fire, not wanting to give away our position in the murk, the firing to our rear dies down, 2 minutes go by. We hear movement from the rear to our left, "right on, hq got the lead out" the sounds peter off into the mist, no sound or movement from the unseen enemy to our front. Epilogue: When the sun burned away the fog, we found ourselves face-to-face with the HQ platoon, which had come out to strengthan our position, got lost, went beyond the perimeter, and came wandering back. The OPFOR were the cause of the firing to our rear, they had wandered through the gap left by the lost HQ platoon, and stumbled around INSIDE our perimeter until they brushed up against the motor park, where the heavy junk guys engaged them, the sounds after the firefight were the OPFOR platoon withdrwaing the same way they came in. How's that for fog of war? ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  21. Hehe yes Mannheim, I know, I was an armored vehicle recovery specialist my second tour, all seven years of it in Germany. "My future's so bright, I gotta wear shades" BTW, My mother's from Mannheim ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  22. Hmm I gotta learn to do that faded look on the paint, Tiger's hetzer seems to have a gritty, "more there" kinda look to it. Oh well, hope y'all enjoy mine too, It's my first (and far from the last) ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  23. It's a bit of work, but I find that making folders for each modded item (with folders for the originals also) allows me to rather painlessly switch between them. MadMatt, Check the saurer truck zip please, I D/L'd it twice and get a file error everytime I open, (might be my crappy tin cans and a string connection, but better safe than sorry) ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  24. It should happen more when damp or muddy or snowy, but should still be relatively rare. After all, why d'ya think they put tracks on 'em in the first place? ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
  25. Yep the Army had more ships than the Navy,(technically) Every LST,LSI,landing craft,FSI and Floating dock was under Army control, and there were hundreds of them. ------------------ Pzvg "Confucious say, it is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
