  1. I think its a good idea. However, I dont think the rubble around the building should prevent vehicle movemnt - just hinder it. Have a high chance of bogging and move slower.
  2. I must also add that for games, unlike MP3's, d/l ing the game in its entirety is more difficult. For a game like CM, this is not the case. For an RPG or a complex Action game (yes, those exist) its much harder. Not only are they larger, there are many things the warez d/l's dont post. Like movies included, for example. Music is often thrown out. It all has to be d/l'ed seperately. To be perfectly honest, Ive never d/l'ed a complete warez game. I have not the connection nor the patience. My cheap friend (yes, my actual friend, not me) however, who really cant buy games on a regular basis has to put up with it since its the only way he'll get to play. I dont bug him about it, but I dont get all happy-dappy when he tells me some game I wanted to play for a while finally showed up on a warez site. I'll buy the thing, just for the whole "experience". There's just something about going to the store, plopping down your hard earned cash, and opening that box with all the goodies inside. Ah, I remember the good ol' days when games had goodies inside. Now we've got CM and we dont need no stinkin' goodies! I miss it sometimes, though... Uhh, anyway, thats my rant. Lewis had his turn, damnit! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  3. Oh c'mon, Magua or DraGoon, feed us salvitating mod-freaks some more pics! Pretty please? With a Cherry on top??
  4. Actually, I dont think this is such a bad idea! Can anyone say "ran out of stock"? I had to wait for a week the first time CM ran out to get my copy. It would also help BTS to know exactly how many people are already definately ordering. Then, make a few thousand more copies for those who havent yet found out Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  5. --- "And who is the judge on whether the people you steal from are "innovative"? you? That's like someone saying: "In only kill people who deserve to be killed." --- Yes indeed. Im the one downloading, right? I dont make others do it. So, I am in turn deciding whether the product is innovative/creative enough for me to actually spend money on to support the publishers. Will I blow $45 Id rather use elsewhere on the latest RTS/Action/Tomb Raider clone? No. Will I d/l it to play a few rounds with my buddies and then probably end up erasing it from my HD? Yes. My money goes to those who deserve it, and I will be the judge of who I think deserves it. You have a different opinion? Good for you. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  6. First, a few questions: Since the screenshots posted are not able to be expanded, I didnt get a very good look at the actual improvements made. I really like the ski textures, fabulous stuff. The building in the last shot looks magnificent, I hope the rest of them are like that (with modifications, as needed of course). Is the grass improved? I cant really tell (No offence, I just need a closer look, is all!) From what I can see, it looks good. Maybe I havent seen everything though, so am yet to be amazed even more! Cheers!
  7. Like Robeek, Im not a moral person, really. I'll admit it - I have downloaded Apps and games from warez sites. However, there is a fine line seperating something I'll do without thinking twice to something I would probably not do at all. Stealing from innovative people is something I will not do. Many a times after reading a good review in a gaming mag/web site, I tell my friends I will purchase the game. They respond that I should stop wasting money and get it for free. I say no, and they are confused since normally Im pretty cool with stuff like that. I appreciate creativity however, and would not want to burn creative individuals, even if I do have to spend my own money to support them. I've seen CM on warez sites, and I could have easily obtained it through that and learned the game "on the go". However, the demo cinvinced me this was a quality piece of work - a revolutionary one, even - and that stealing from these guys would only hurt myself. Since if everyone decides to steal, they will go out of business and the game I enjoy so much will go kaput. Now, downloading the latest crap Bill Gates threw up into the games market I wont give a second thought to. He's a billionaire, hes annoying, and he buys off good companies and makes them do stupid crap I happen to dislike (making Bungie concentrating on the X-Box with their Halo game, for one). If he wants my money, he can pry it from my cold dead fingers. Steve and Charles on the other hand, I'd give donations to Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back" [This message has been edited by The Commissar (edited 02-10-2001).]
  8. Horsies...bah. Moose...double bah. Give me a good Llama any day of the week and I'll send your arse back to your mommy with a big ol' lama hoof print on it. Or somefink.
  9. *ach*...*gag*...somebody...please...shoot it! *cough* ...the cuteness... *barf*...is getting to me!
  10. Good point, Jeff. However, this will make things very hard for the Soviets. The reason they did so well against German armor later on in the war because they had so much of it. Sure, the quality itself improved severely, and the crew was probobly better trained, but still not on the level of what the Germans had. Concentration of forces and sheer mass played a huge part, and was used very well by Zhukov in most cases. If a T-34/85 is to cost as much as, say, a Sherman, then half the fun of playing as the Soviets is gone! I want my waves of tanks! Waaah! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  11. Heres a a question that must be answered: How much will the T-34 cost in CM? Keeping in mind all these deficiencies, BTS must make it mighty cheap if it is to have the sort of success it did (at least in the later years of the war). I assume it will surely be under 100. Then we go lower. 80? 70? 60? 50? That sounds pretty good keeping in mind the sheer amount of the machines used. Suggestions? BTS - Thanks for the info, Bastables, I guess the book I read wasnt exactly top of the line. ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  12. ...simply a none-lingual simpleton? That is a question, my esteemed imbeciles, that only one man can answer. Surely you know that the man in question is none other then..
  13. Here's a question for armor historians: In the Korean war, where T-34's were widely used by the communist forces, which was the model? I ask because from what little I have read and heard about the conflict, sources say that the T-34 pretty much had its way with the Sherman, despite the many flaws/disadvantages you all have pointed out. Am I getting incorrect information, or was the model used in Korea adressed many/most of the T-34's early disadvantages? Also, did the Koreans have radios in their T-34's? Thanks in advance, Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  14. Silly, silly foreigners! Stupidity? Disregard for life? Why, my misinformed comrad, you obviously have no understanding of "Asian" philosophy towards life. Now, before anyone jumps in, Russia is more European, but the Asian outlook on life carried over on its people. To understand Russia during WW2 - excuse me, the USSR since the other countries were in it as well - you have only to take a look back at history. Russia has ALWAYS been like this - and its not stupidity. Picture it as a chess game: if you need to sacrifice all your pawns to Check Mate an opponent, would you do it? Of course you would. Thats what makes Asian countries so "wasteful" - and so terrible to fight against. Each soldier is a part of a whole, and they arent as afraid of getting their men killed as much. U.S. learned this in Vietnam. Russia knew this, and still uses it (look at Chechnia *sigh*) but has lost the fanatacism that has always been the hallmark of its typically under-trained military. Speaking solely from my opinion, its to due with a little thing called religion. Russians have always been nearly fanatic when dealing with religion. Thats why they fought to the death even when not under threat of death by NKVD troops. Its been like that forever (versus the French at Borodino, for one). Now that Russia is not as religious as it used to be (dont ask me why, Im not religious myself), that driving force is gone from its soldiers. Now their just conscripts - not fanatical, "Die for the Motherland!" conscripts. Oh, and dealing with world tyrants. Did you notice how many of the tyrants to rule major countries during this millinia were born and raised in other countries? Napolean was a Croatian. Hitler was Austrian. Stalin, Georgian. Just something to think about... 15. "...a sheep humping cult! Hey Matt, you in on this?" Meeks called out. Obtaining no responce, he turned to look where second before Madmatt was bent over, eating things pulled at random from his pants. He saw no one. An empty Iced Volo packet was the only sign of what transpired here not a moment before. Meeks felt a brooding, evil, immensely obese presence sizing him up from...somewhere. The whining scream of Sparky made him twirl like a balerina and look upon the most hideous sight he had ever seen - next to the one time a long time ago when he looked into a mirror - ...
  16. This is an actual reported case of AI behaviour. Its a bug of a sort - attacking in the last few turns. It happens rarely, fortunately. Someone posted an example somewhat like your own, but was then severely flamed said person presented his argument in an offensive way. Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  17. *cue sound of gun-cocking * You gotsta ask y'self...Are ya feelin' lucky?
  18. Hmm, study tomes of unit disposition to get notice of grumpy middle-aged men, or play dumb and have (historically oriented) opponent lecture me before a battle? It's a tough choice so far Either way, again, thanks for the info. Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  19. ...saw the nefarious Mr. Clean post in this mssg - http://www.gicombat.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000013.html - clearly, he was too busy wishing for ultimate power and control over all the miniscule RTS'ers of said forum. Then Chupacabra sneezed and everything went to hell. The bald man turned and focusing his hawk-like beady lil' eyes on our sorry excuse for a child-molestor victim, proclaimed in his booming girlish sing-song, that... 20. I would love a chance for this sort of test. However, before commensing such a battle, we must establish what results give either player "better then history" statistics. IE: Capturing a vilage isnt enough if you lost 5 times the number of men as the enemy did. The other way around, now THAT's a feat! Finnish were not much more then conscripts themselves, AFAIK. The moview Winter War, if it is to be relied upon to even a light degree, shows this. The Finns were modivated - just like the Russians were when Germans invaded them. Any people would have the same reaction. So at best, Finns and Soviets would both be Conscript/Green/Regular with the Finns having a higher fanatacism rating and better morale. If I am not mistaken, the Finns also used mostly Soviet equipment, so it should not be very difficult to model. Now, radios - did the Finns have better communication? Quite probably. So reaction times would be shorter. Other then that, I see no major difference. Coordinate your assault and plan well - that is what the Soviets skipped all together in their approach to battle against the Finns (and early on, the Germans). Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  21. Thought this deserved a bump. Thanks for the info, Jason! Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  22. I dont know about anybody else, but I dont feel that Finnish *should* be able to *massacre* Soviets. Take away the idiotic "wave attacks" and you have a fairly-decent army - not great, but not the worst either. Certaintly capable to taking out the Finnish with proper leadership. Now, assuming CM players are better leaders of virtual Soviets then the conscript officers of real life, I expect to massacre the Finns - not the other way around. Yes, conscript experience status and the like will keep Soviet players from achieving spectacular, flawless results, but I am willing to bet money that the Finns will have a much harder fight on their hands this time around. Cheers! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  23. What do you mean it was rare when jason listed a whole bunch of cases where this was common (as he said)? Am I misreading something? BTW, Thanks for the info, Germanboy! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
  24. An absolute MUST for town and heavily wooden areas. I usually buy a pair of Regulars, since their overall effect does not decrease with experience. The great thing about a direct 105mm hit is the routing effect! Bring up both of your Priests to open fire on a building, and any infantry inside will be surpressed, panic, and rout in a matter of 1-2 turns - that is, the the building does not explode killing everyone inside, that is! In city fighting, keep your Priests behind your lines until you have cornered an enemy strongpoint. At this point, isolate this strongpoint and scout the sorrounding area for AT teams. Then, bring in your priests to demolish said strong point. In wooden areas, you have to be more careful and it is often more difficult to achieve such a devestating effect (forests dont explode, unlike buildings). However, you will need a strong direct Arty presence to shift enemies from woods, which can usually take very long to do with just infantry/regular arty. The great thing about the Priest is the quick effect. Just keep it safe behind your lines when not in need of it, and avoid exposing it on small targetss, since you stand a chance of losing it for a relatively small gain. 25. I've figured it out...Tiger is an insomniac, hooked up to an IV tube filled with mashed-potatoe mush, with bedpan at the ready, modding away without stop. I wonder how much tape he used up gluing his eyelids to his face, stop with that irritating blinking and all? Either way, great stuff. Now if we could only get Steve and Charles to convert to your ways, CM2 would come out next week! ------------------ "...Every position, every meter of Soviet soil must be defended to the last drop of blood..." - Segment from Order 227 "Not a step back"
