  4. Horo- how you look at CM really depends on if you look at it primarily as a game or as a simulator. If you're looking at it as a game first and foremost, then yeah, winning the game is the most important thing. If you're looking at it as a simulator, then accurately simulating WW2 tactical combat within the limits of CM's engine is the most important thing. Some of us look at it as a simulation. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  5. Hiram - I think the key is to only play co-op games with people you trust to respect your decisions. Obviously there isn't much fun in watching someone continuously countermand your orders. Although I think it might be acceptable for the file to go to the overall commander last, to make sure there's nothing boneheaded/self-destructive going on, ie "hey, is that a King Tiger over there? CHARGE!!!" ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.

Your panzerfaust-eating Greyhound? Your no-LOS immobilized Sherman? Your scampering-for-the-hills-like-little-mice infantry? Savor your insolence, Crodita. It won't last long when I'm using your dangly bits as fishbait. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  7. Destro? Oh, yeah, metal masks are really cool. Gives you that sexy "Don't smudge my damn mask!" look. Anyway, everyone knows that Storm Shadow was the coolest. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.

  10. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by some Skorpions-lover: Having Croda as your personal manservant? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Can't have that. After the game I'm currently whalloping him in, he'll be my maidservant. That's right, I said maidservant. Let him find out the hard way what I do to losers. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  11. IIRC, there are a few JA2 players who are putting together a "WW2 weapons mod" for JA2. Replacing LAWs with bazookas, and so forth. Obviously it won't be perfect since the overall look of the game will still be modern rather than historical, but it may be better than nothing. If anything comes of this, I'll post. Oh, and anyone who hasn't picked up JA2, I'd highly recommend it. Especially now that it's been out for quite a while, and is being sold at bargain basement prices. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  12. Heh, as someone who probably makes 90% of his posts when he's pissed about something, I can certainly understand where you're coming from. Don't sweat it, DeanCo. Of course now you realize that you have to defend me on the CS forums when I start complaining that the recoil on the Steyr is simply all wrong! ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  13. To all you vile bastards: I'm having some problems with my email in that I can receive mail, but apparently I can't send any. This shouldn't take long to clear up, but...there it is. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  14. Once again: "Gamey" tactics are tactics which exploit the shortcomings of the game engine to produce results which would be impossible to produce in real life. Gamey tactics are not cheating. The prime example of the gamey tactic, IMO, is the jeep rush, in that CM's absolute spotting model means that the player gains much more information from a suicidal jeep rush than a commander would IRL. Even if the player only finds out that "oops, there's a well-placed anti-recon MG ambush over there," that's more information than he should get. I think to some extent these threads are futile because, obviously, everyone has their own thoughts on what's gamey, what's not, or if it's even an issue. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  15. If you'd pulled out of town and attacked the guys in the woods, you probably could've kicked them out. You had some arty left, right? If not, then nevermind, you were screwed ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  16. When I was a kid, I used to go trick or treating for Holloween, like everyone else. The crappiest treat I ever got was a Holloween-themed notepad. I kid you not. All the other houses were giving out the good stuff, these freaking dorks were giving stationary. Anyway, amazed at the sheer crappiness of it all, I threw this thing in the corner of my room, where it rested for many years, gathering dust. Fast forward to high school. I had a bunch of people in my room, and there was one girl who I was desperately trying to hook up with. I asked her for her number, and LO! she said okay. So I rush around to try to find some paper. None in sight. By some miracle I come across this stupid Halloween notepad, still lying where I'd thrown it years before. I rip the package open, write down the girl's number, and all is well. After everyone left, I looked at the notepad's packaging. The front showed a vampire writing a note in blood. Below this picture was a line reading "WARNING: Only write notes in ink, never in blood." From then on, this has been the apotheosis of stupid cover-yr-ass warnings for me. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  17. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Tiger: One could argue that it is a fix to the game as the random troop quality selector on the QB screen is basically useless as is. Just as one can argue whether or not the turrent rotation in last patch was a fix or a suggestion for something to be done differently that was already in the game. Or the frontal turrent armor on a tank which was changed due to a suggestion in a post from this forum. -john<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Yes, one could argue that those were changes rather than fixes, but I think they were fixes I don't find the random unit function useless at all, in fact I think it'd be less useless if you ask for random troop quality, but can still choose 3 of the 6 choices in any given situation. I'd rather have a feeling of foreboding when I select random troop quality, wondering if I'm going to wind up with a horde of conscripts or a platoon of elites. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  18. I'm personally a big fan of psychological warfare To use a recent PBEM game as an example, I held the VLs, but my guys were pretty cut up. I'd made some silly mistakes, but through some luck and some purchasing choices that worked out for me, I'd hung in there and hurt my opponent as well. But in fact, he had enough men left in the end that if he'd pushed hard, he could've kicked me off one of the VLs and forced a draw. The key to the game, I think was that all my squads were vets, whereas the majority of his were regular. My opponent saw my guys dishing out more casualties than they took, and I think he got frustrated. Once I saw that he was getting frustrated, I did everything I could to encourage it Long story short, and this may sound kinda wishy-washy, but I think attitude makes as much of a difference as what you've actually got on the map. If you think you're gonna win, you'll have a better shot of doing so than if you think you're getting cut to pieces and there's nothing you can do. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  19. Hah! You didn't post the Onion article which I thought you were going to post, which leaves me free to do it. HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Historical Inaccuracy Found In Wild West Strip Show LAS VEGAS-- Donald Nance, a vacationing Massillon, OH, accountant and history buff, detected a historical inaccuracy Monday in a Wild West-themed topless revue at Las Vegas' Mustang Club. "If you look at the pistols Miss Kitty was brandishing, they were clearly of a make not produced by the Colt factories until well after the turn of the century," Nance said. "And the kind of white patent-leather boots worn by the strippers were not produced at any time during the Westward Expansion phase." Nance also noted that pasties of the Wild West era did not feature tassels. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  20. Tiger - Yes, I do have a problem with someone who replied to your thread. My initial strong reaction, as I've said several times, was to his post, not to yours. As far as vendettas go, I'm not interested. I've said my piece on that, as far as I'm concerned. My fundamental objection, as I've pointed out again, is that this is not a balance issue, it is not a fix to the game engine as was the turret rotation issue, it is an addition to the game engine. I applaud BTS' commitment to maintaining the game engine and providing fixes where applicable, but it is my preference, purely personal, admittedly selfish, that the time they could spend adding new features to CM1 go instead towards CM2. Re: the scenario editor. Again, it's not a perfect compromise, but if you're playing with someone you trust, I think it requires no more trust to ask that they not look at your force selection than to ask that they not use green troops as cannon fodder. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  21. There's a difference between fixing the game and adding things to it. I didn't say anything about the briefing/debriefing thing because it's in the hands of the scenario designers. I repeat again. I have no strong objection to this proposal in the abstract, nor to the way in which it was originally presented. My original strong reaction was against the "I want this now" mentality, which I explained. My fundamental objection I've pointed out. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  22. My fundamental objection is still that this is an option which is already available via the scenario editor. Is it a perfect compromise? No. Is it in the game now? Yes. In the abstract, I have nothing against the idea. If it was something which was planned for CM2, I would have no objections. Again, this could be the quickest code change in the history of computer games, but my feeling is still that if BTS takes the time to model every small, quick change which people want, we'll be waiting for CM2 for quite a while. And to me, that's the meat of the series. That's what I'm really looking forward to. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  23. Unfortunately for my wallet, it's usually my binge drinking urge that goes with my gambling urge. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  24. Will Arcanum be a better RPG than CM? Yeah, I hope so. Will Black and White be a better god game? Almost certainly. Will Red Faction be a better FPS? Yep. Will I still play CM when I want a wargame? Betcher ass. Like Jeff said, there's not really anything out there right now that's comparable to CM. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
  25. Notice that he never denied wearing a snakeskin jacket over a Krokus tank top and ripped acid-wash jeans. Says it all, really. ------------------ Soy super bien, soy super super bien, soy bien bien super bien bien bien super super.
