We played wargames w/ rocks. You threw em at eachother... and if you got hit you were dead. Cardboard.....hmph. Maps...Foowie. Computers...hah! Young no-good, know-nuthin whippersnappers! ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner. Was there anything else?
 2. Just for your info, there are a couple of Close Combat II editions up for sale on ebay right now really cheap. Search there site for "Close Combat 2" or "Operation Market Garden."
 3. This web-sight ( www.jjfpub.mb.ca/products.htm ) has some great books. They are also VERY expensive and don't appear intended for the casual war/history reader. I am interested in a number of these books but am hesitant about spending that much. I was hoping that anyone who has read any of these might give some info on content and if they are worth the price (and why). Thanks for any replies. ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner. Was there anything else? [This message has been edited by Red Devils (edited 09-23-2000).]
 4. Brest-Litovsk 1941, Berlin 1945...nuff said. ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner. Was there anything else?
 5. I have only played a few WWII games, but I enjoyed Close Combat II (Operation Market Garden) alot. The rest of the CC series was very disapointing. CC2 is several years old now, but still fun (CC5 is due out Sept. 30th). Talonsofts Western Front was fun but I lost interest in it fairly quickly. It covers much larger scale battles (up to corps!) than CM. Hope that helps some. ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner. Was there anything else?
 6. Can anyone please tell me if both the German magnetic anti-tank mine and Teller mine were available at the begining of Barbarossa (41)?
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Napoleon1944: Excellent! Now Lets get a 3D Napoleonic simulaton. Plenty of us Napoleonic gamers in the world. Vive L'empereur!

There is one coming out very soon! It's by the same people that made "Sid Meyers Gettysburgh" and Antietam. It will use the same engine but w/ enhanced graphics. Sorry, I don't have a sight for it but check your local game magazines for previews. Or maybe someone will post some info here. ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner. Was there anything else?
 8. Actually, I have employed nearly the same tactic (very effectively) w/ both German and US (more often German ) infantry in half-tracks. I start a scenario w/ a platoon or more of infantry loaded in half-tracks. I then race them all to a desired location at fast speed and have the troops bail out and run to occupy the nearest victory location. It seams to work very well. I also feel that this is not as gamey a tactic as the .50 blazing jeeps as I have actually read accounts of troops doing this in real life (though w/ mixed results.) Infact, one comes to mind. While reading an account of city fighting in Arnhem (from "It Never Snows in September") as I recall, at least a reinforced platoon of Germans mounted in trucks tried to race for the British end of the bridge (through the city, not across the bridge). The problem was that they didn't know which buildings the Brits. occupied so they bailed out right in front of the Tommies position. Anyway, scratch one Ersatz rifle platoon. ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner. Was there anything else?
 9. You're damn scootin their worth it! I tend to pick them more often on offense, however and less often on defense. Also I buy them for important units even if the rest of my army is regular/green (panzerschreck/bazooka, snipers...). They are worth it too if you know that you are going to have an infantry heavy (airborne) force and you might be facing some tanks. ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner. 13. No, but I have seen prone men stand up before they die if they are the last man in the squad to be hit. A death dance? Kinda weird. Like they are rising up to Valhalla.

 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Sailor Malan: Sorry, I thought I had answered the question. The manual (p60) says ' The tank commander (read TacAI) is responsible for the choice of ammo, and will usually try to fire some regular rounds first to "bracket" the target, and only employ special ammo once a hit is likely to be achieved, and only when the standard type proves ineffective' This is the most logical way to use special ammo (IMO), at long range early shots rarely hit, and if you use up your T, you are then stuffed. The other guy probably isn't hitting either on his early shots! (If he is, you should fire smoke and leave)

Hey I was just joshing ya Sailor. I saw that in the manuel but my tanks still keep dying w/out ever firing off any "c" rounds. I thought that maybe there was more to it. Thanks. ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner. Was there anything else?
 16. Look, now when I purchased this tank from you you said it was a Marder. No I didn't! Yes you did! No I didn't!

 18. In Jan '45 the Germans launched an offensive in Alsace, France. I believe the intention of this was too relieve the pressure on their troops trapped in "the buldge." If anyone has any info on the units (divisions, etc..) involved in this offensive and how long it lasted please post them here or email me. Also, any written accounts you can let me know about would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner. 19. Why would someone write, " Ever hear of Nijmegan?" without giving any other info? How in anyway does that help the poster of this thread w/ his question? Der! Lets try and be a little more constructive and a little less Superior sounding folks! ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner. Was there anything else?
 20. Possible Spoiler for "Move it or Lose it" scenario. *Warning* * * * While playing "Move it..." as the allies yesterday the AI did a funny thing. It first tried to race a Puma across the bridge. The Puma went over the side (on its own, it was not KIA) and became stuck on the side of the bridge. I was then able to take it out w/ a Stuart. About 15 turns later a Panzer Mk IV tried to cross the same bridge and it fell off too! Now it is stuck 1/2 on and 1/2 off the bridge . It's still capping off rounds at my GIs though and it even managed to take out one of my TDs while it was stuck! Either BTS has to work on its AI for vehicles crossing bridges or they need to cut back the germans schnapps ration a bit! ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner. 21. Cool article. Thanks for posting. I saw the preview on HBO. It looks pretty good. This book is a great story. These guys were in on D-Day, Market-Garden (they were stuck in the dykes for weeks after Market failed). They were also in the thick of things at Bastogne and as mentioned earlier, they were the ones to occupy Hitler's Eagles Nest. Good reading all around. Should make a very exciting series! Go get HBO! ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner. Was there anything else?
 22. I was just reading in "Citizen Soldiers" by Stephen Ambrose, how a US soldier ran up to a german tank and fired a rifle-grenade down the barrel. What *ucking balls did that guy have! ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner. Was there anything else?
 23.
quote:
Originally posted by Pacestick: I am a bit perplexed and I am hoping someone can enlighten me. I constantly see posts from junior members of the forum asking for some advice or seeking an answer to some question on a million and one different things mostly related to the wonderful game of CM. The vast majority of these posts invoke responces that I would call intollerant and in some cases, downright insulting from people who seem deeply offended that they are forced to read these posts more than once. It appears that asking something that has been discussed in the past is a terrible and wasteful thing to do. Is the cyberspace used in this manner gone forever and can never be reused? The constant asking of and answering questions of a similar nature has some unknown detrimental effect on the ozone layer? No,my guess is it makes the old and bold here feel important to chide the "newbies" for wasting their valuable time in having to answer a question already answered. Or perhaps the ones who chide the newbies for being to lazy to do a search are in fact to lazy themselves to sort the wheat from the chaff in the way they filter the forums content for the posts that are of interest them alone. The problem from my viewpoint in doing a search to see what has been discussed to death beforehand is that the result will invariably be old news. Most people are more interested in what applies to version 1.03 and want instant and relevant feedback than reading some old discussion that may have pertained to the beta, the gold demo, version 1.01 and so on. If this has been discussed before my apologies, I did not do a search for the same reason I call directory assistance when I need a phone number rather than looking up a phone book. I am just too damm lazy

This is the best post I have seen yet on this site. I also found it funny that three of the people who flame newbies (and members!) the most responded to it. ------------------ I'm sorry, we haven't the facilities to take all of you prisoner.
