1. I solved the problem! As I mentioned earlier, it had something to do with that little program I installed. It´s called "Windows 2000 NVidia Refresh Rate Fix" and you can find it here: http://www.planetquake.com/ztn/ I don´t know exactly what it does, but as far as I understood it will raise the default refresh rates that come with NVidia reference drivers under Win2k. It worked really fine with Counterstrike to achieve refresh rates above 60Hz, but somehow CM refused to work with this settings. I reloaded all the default NVidia settings (there is a restore function) and now I use CM with 1024x768@85Hz. Contrary to this statement I must agree with Madmatt. I do see a differernce between 75 and 85Hz for example. It is a small almost not noticable flickering when you take a look parallel to your monitor. As far as I can remember biology lessons this has something to do with the human eye´s ability to detect moving objects better in it´s lateral field of view. Anyway, thanks for your help. ------------------ "I am no fool!" Michael

 3. UBB SHOULD BE ON Win2k does recognizes my monitor as a Dell1226H. I´ll check this out. I recently installed a tool called "NVidia Refresh rate fix", a small program which sets the default refresh rates higher than initial 60MHz (this comes handy if you play games like CS). Maybe this is the cause of trouble. I know. Win2k is not the best for games (especially elder, DOS based; that´s why I had to say goodbye to PanzerGeneral95, sniff), but I choose it for many other good reasons and won´t change it again. Thanx you for your help, ------------------ "I am no fool!" Michael
 4. After reinstalling Win2k, CM will only run in 640x480@120 software mode. If I accept this option on the initial config screen, CM will use the software renderer which looks awful (have you ever tried this? Reminds me of old C64 games...). If I skip, CM will bail out and display the following message: Could not initialize Direct3D graphics Other games (Counterstrike) show no problems with Direct3D or OpenGL. My config: Duron800@1000MHz, Epox8KTA3, 128MB SDRAM, Win2k SP1, DirectX8.0a german, GeForce2MX, NVidia reference drivers 6.50, Quicktime 4.0, Dell 1226H monitor P.S.: Does this problem have something to do with monitor refresh rates? ------------------ "I am no fool!" 5. A good friend from HighSchool used to call me this way. I adopted it as a nickname, but I continue to use different nicks in different online environments (for example: Fleischwurst, Wurstwasser, Pvt. Piddleborough). Although it may sound italian, it is simply derived from my name, Michael Miler. ------------------ "I am no fool!" Michael
 6. I have to agree with Tom´s statements above. I doubt that there would be any chance to pass computer game software containg the term "Waffen SS" anywhere. The same applies to swastikas or any other sign of former NSDAP organizations (like Hitler Youth). It is still very interesting that the usage of the Iron Cross (Eisernes Kreuz) is not prohibited in any way, especially not in Computer games. As Tom already mentioned we have to differentiate between media (e.g. games, books, videos, music, etc.) put on the so called "Index" by the BPS on the one hand and completely "banned" media on the other hand. Indexed (?) games are not considered illegal and may still be purchased if you are older than 18 years. Of course, there are other serious restrictions to marketing: those "indexed" games may not be advertised or displayed in show-cases anymore. Banned games on the other side are officially declared illegal by german courts (bitte korrigieren falls falsch) and possession or distribution is prohibited by law. As far as I can remember only very few games were actually "banned" by german courts, and those which experienced this fate really did deserve it (titles like "KZ Manager" where you had to manage a german concentration camp in WWII). A few years ago PanzerGeneral experienced some trouble and as far as I can remember it had something to do with inaccurate (=Nazi) text passages in the manual. But today, PanzerGeneral and it´s successors are legally availabe on the german market and RTS-game "Sudden Strike", which is set in a WWII background is very popular over here. On the other hand, games like Quake, Soldiers of Fortune and other bloody FPS have been put on the "Index" by the BPS and therefore are only availabe to adults. But this surely has not hampered their popularity and distribution among german computer players in any way Replacing all swastikas (like in PanzerGeneral) would be okay for german market, but the usage of ther term "Waffen SS", well, I dunno. Would surely be difficult Just my 2 Pfennig, ------------------ "I am no fool!" Michael
 7. As alredy mentioned above, I heared that Panzermuseeum at Munster really is worth it´s money. [url=http://www.panzermuseum.com ------------------ "I am no fool!" Michael

 10. I was also wondering, but after a quick look at Gordon Williamson´s book "The SS: Hitler´s Instrument of Terror" it should be the abbreviation for "Rottenführer". He compares this lower enlisted rank with "Obergefreiter" in the Wehrmacht, which should be something like corporal in the US Army (correct me if I´m wrong). ------------------ "I am no fool!" 11. When purchasing german units for my PBEM I have so many choices concerning different service branches (Heer, Fallschirmjäger, SS, Gebirgsjäger, Volkssturm) and different formations (rifle squads, Sturmgruppen, SS-Rifle, Escort squads, VG squads, SMG squads, Füsilier squads, etc...). Looking at the allied possibilites, there are only rifle squads, parachute squads and glider squads IIRC. My question is: does this historically model the allied troops during WWII or was there simply more research put into german formations (I doubt this since I assume that BTS surely had some WWII buffs on this board to help them)? If such few specialized allied formations were normal, could someone explain this to me? Thank you, ------------------ "I am no fool!" Michael
 12.
quote:
Man könnte dann ganz zwanglos Partien vereinbaren , ein Tournier starten oder auch mal - tolle Idee - eine Art LAN-Party.

Concerning this, please read my "Deutsche ACHTUNG - Germans listen up" thread. It seemed that there wasn´t that much interest in LAN-gaming for now (maybe until TCP/IP patch is out). Have a nice day... ------------------ "I am no fool!" Michael
