  1. Seanachai - Stop waffling and be the first to hav e the balls to send a setup and be skewered like the inconsequential foreigner you are. Sigh. I don't see why we have to put up with the likes of you, except to roundly beat you. This could degenerate if we don't stop the waffling now chaps.
  2. Now that Jeff has woken up, it looks like Perth is THE place to be for CM in Australia. I'm not sure what that means, but it must be good for PBEM games.
  3. Pat here. In Perth, (hi Eric)(hi AussieJeff) noba@bigpond.net.au
  4. Great discussion. It's a shame I only found this discussion today. In answer to the initial questions and the other discussion of historical write ups, I could point you to Carlo D'Este and his book 'Decision in Normandy' subtitled - The unwritten story of Montgomery and the Allied Campaign. It covers the deployment of German armour mainly opposite the British front. Goes into the questions raised at the time about the British operations, and their perceived failures. (Even though the Germans could never make a reserve of Armoured divisions with which to launch a decisive blow as they wanted. They were used to plug holes in the lines more than once). Describes in detail how the 'Master Plan' of Montgomery was shaped by events and how the write up of the history was 'shaped' also to fit what happened. He gives casualties in men and material for the whole battle. German equipment losses as follows. Tanks - 1,300 Vehicles - 20,000 Assualt guns - 500 Field guns - 5,500 Aircraft - 3,545 Troop units : Equivalent of five Panzer divisions destroyed, six severely mauled. Equivalent of 20 Infantry divisions eliminated, and 12 more (including 3 Para severely reduced). He quotes the Supreme Commanders Report as his source for those figures. Certainly not much effective German combat forces escaped across the Seine. If anyone else has read the book I would be interested in their opinion of it as a good or otherwise summary of the Normandy Operations. Regards, Pat.
  5. But we won't tell everyone that NOBA is short for NO Bloody Answer to AussieJeff's superior battle tactics, eh??? Now,now Jeff. Your troops can't wriggle out of the trap that is closing in...not with that pretty poor propaganda. :edited for imcompetence - and spelling ! [ 07-10-2001: Message edited by: Noba ]
  6. That's funny. When I mention sex I get a reply like....."Havn't you got a computer game to play ?" Works for me !!!
  7. Hey Jeff. Stop modding and send a turn. They do look good though.
  8. ------------------------------------------ Of course, since I got broadband I do not really care anymore... Jeff Heidman ------------------------------------------ Me neither !
  9. Yes it does.......This from the Help files __________________________________________ On the Tools menu, click Accounts. On either the Mail or News tab, click Properties. On the Advanced tab, select the Break apart messages larger than x KB check box and then enter the maximum file size the server will allow.
  10. There is a little freeware program that can fix that problem. It's called Filesplitter. http://members.nbci.com/mbjorklu/file_splitter/ I hope the link is ok. Both players will need it of course.
  11. Old is an appropriate descriptor. I still enjoy the Historical games sometimes. Rarity in CM at the moment is not an important factor to me. With historical dates restricting purchases now, and a small time frame in relation the Eastern Front, the impact is low. When you have a vehicle that was used for a long period and due to production and losses changing historical availability, the effect could be applied to point values. I think the current points work and if players wish to change them with a system that 'adjusts' the points then thats up to them. (At this stage I don't know if rarity is planned for CM2).
  12. Doghouse....The Rarity list from the Avalon Hill game of Cross of Iron brings back fond memories. My rulebook says Copyright 1978. The lists were revised for ASL. If I were you, I'd start ducking for cover. This topic usually gets some interesting responses. (Rarity)
  13. Seasons Greetings also. (In 2 hours 20 minutes) To the Real Millenium !
  14. so now it's an Australian cesspool?.......how fitting... Milt. It's not the cesspool, it's the Septic Tank ! Very appropriate too... Refer to Simon's post.
  15. _____________________________________________ "I find overwriting is much easier to keep track of, it's cleaner, and if I really want to go back and look at a turn I can simply regrab the attachment from the email and rename it then. So what is the purpose of numbering other than draining the HD and confusing your opponent " _____________________________________________ If I read this correctly, by keeping the file attachment, you are taking HD space anyway. I prefer to number and put a name on the turns and keep the results in it's own PBEM folder - which is named after who and what game we are playing. Something about overwriting always scares me, and I tend to keep my mail clean as possible.
  16. _____________________________________________ Howerver, Petra Vrkaik is a living barbie doll, and perhaps she is from the Kharkov area (sorry i you guys dont know Petra). _____________________________________________ All right, i'll bite..... Never heard of her ! Who IS she ? Do we get a screen shot ?
  17. BIGGGIE's comment... ____________________________________________ Re: Stealth - Saying that Stealth technology is originally Russian is not completely accurate. The mathamatical formulas that were eventually used to develop stealth tech. were developed by a Russian scientist (I can't remember his name) in the early 20th century. He published formulas on how to calculate light, sound and radio wave refraction based upon different angles of impact. ____________________________________________ The Russians' name is Pyotr Ufimtsev, chief scientist at the Moscow Institute of Radio Engineering. Apparently he revisited a set of century old set of formulas derived by Scottish physicist James Clerk Maxwell and later refined by a German electromagnetics expert Arnold Johannes Sommerfeld. These calcs predicted the manner in which a given geometric configuration would reflect electromagnetic radiation. Ufimtsev took this earlier work further. i.e "How to accurately calculate radar cross sections across the surface of the wing and at the edge of the wing and put these two calculations together for an accurate total." These taken from "Skunk Works" pge19 by Ben R. Rich and Leo Janos.(Warner books my copy) Due to limited computer processing power, (1975 for the Stealth Fighter) they used flat triangular shapes added together to get a measure of the radar cross section. The B2 was able to be designed with curved surfaces due to greater calculating ability.
  18. But if they add all the doo-dads to it... they can call it a PC
  19. Gentlemen, I think Black Five wants to be able to move to contact in a configuration that will alloy him to point a weapon towards an 'anticipated threat' i.e. from a direction he thinks it will come from.As an example, as he moves down a road through trees with a gap coming up on his left..have the turret already in that direction. Could be the difference of survival or not in an ambush situation. I like the idea. Would also be good to be placed in a start position with turret/body in different facings. Another good idea.
  20. ____________________________________ btw anyone know a good Lawyer? ____________________________________ Is that a trick question...'cos I have a long list of potential answers.....

  22. As penance for not playing CM you must memorise the complete 'PENG' thread...and be prepared to answer questions on said thread..
